cheyenne near tenaya ... this after it was shut down for a couple hours.. police were investigating the scene of a man who was hit and injured while running across cheyenne. but there's much more to this incident... metro says he is also suspected of trying to steal alcohol and groceries from the nearby target store.. and trying to set some of it on fire .. inside the store!!. police say someone confonted him .. which led to him running out of the store and onto cheyenne.. where he was hit. emergency responders have taken the man to is expected to survive. "it is time for us to come together as one united people." meet with trump at the white house tomorrow. across the country... the election has sparked protests. here's a live look at the protests happening right now. students have class. there's been some vandalism to buildings... and some fires in the street. some chanting "not our president". clearly this election has evoked a lot of emotion...especiall y amoung young voters. with minority rights taking the spotlight throughout most of the campaign season ...many are wondering where do go from here. fox5's kathleen jacob joins us live from unlv after talking with young voters today. kathleen?

most diverse college campuses in the country so i was able to talk to so many different people from so many different backgrounds and on both sides of the political spectrum. they all agreed that it was much quieter on campus today...almost somber... but there was still a feeling of hope that now that the election is over...maybe everyone can come together and move forward as a country. "i feel like the whole thing was really difficult for a lot of us. i feel like even though maybe some of us don't agree with what happened now or maybe some of us do, just like i was saying we have move on." "i think as america grows, i don't think we're through, and i'm happy that we're not through it because that means that we'll constantly be evolving and that's the kind of mindset that you have to have." i also spoke with a student who's family is from iran... he told me while he fears what's going to happen to them... he's also hopeful and willing to give donald trump a chance. students tell me one of the things unlvs diverse population has

(yvanna) to watch our fox5 news special "the border", go to the news section of our website fox5vegas dot com. gun stores are already getting ready for more business after question one passed yesterday by less than half a percent. they say, by next year, they will have to be the ones officiating over private gun sales... issuing background checks... and charging customers money -- including sales tax. they also say, because of federal and county laws, they will have to hold onto the guns for 30 days before its transferred. people who voted yes say this will make our streets safer. this will save lives in states where they have passed this there are 48% less deaths involving officers butt to the people that need guns for self defense we're keeping thousands of them from getting one that is not a good trade off for public safety it's a political bull stunt gun stores say because of the

to enforce the law until nebada legislators get together and hand it over to the governor to sign. having and smoking marijuana will be legal for adults starting on january first 20-17 after question two was passed here in nevada last night. but being able to legally buy pot in the silver state will take more time. lawmakers have until january of 20-18 to come up with the list of rules and regulations for selling marijuana. afte regulations are set - then dispenseries can start applying for licenses to sell recreational pot... a process that lawyers say could take some time. "it would probably be another six months to twelve months until you can start buying cannibis at a dispensary after january 2018" medical marijuana dispensaries told fox5 right now it is business as usual until they get more direction from the

let's check in with fox five's meteorlogist sam argier with a look at the forecast. besides a few high clouds drifting across the valley this morning, skies have been mainly sunny with temperatures pushing record highs in las vegas wednesday afternoon. for the fourth day in a row, mccarran airport has made it into the 80s; well above the average high of 70 degrees for this time of year. skies will stay mainly clear tonight with low temperatures falling into the 50s. we'll keep it mostly sunny thursday and friday with highs in the mid to upper 70s. a few more clouds will be moving in for saturday with temperatures holding in the mid 70s. we'll keep it in the 70s through early next week before a cold front

temperatures down into the upper 60s with gusty winds picking up across the valley. hundreds of national guard soldiers are now hundreds of national guard soldiers are now home with their loved ones. they were deployed overseas for nine months. today -- families and friends waited for their arrival at the las vegas readiness center. many say it feels good to be home. "i miss little thing everday running to grocery store. everything." "so excited, i got a little emotional but just super excited to have him home." the soldiers were deployed in january as a part of the nevada army national guards 17-th sustainment bridage . today -- many of those soldiers and families also went to their kid's school to surprise them. people on a pedestrian bridge on the strip has been charged with attempted murder. police say rashad jackson shot at two men during a confrontation... near planet hollywood this past weekend. when officers confronted him -- jackson reached for a gun from his waistband. police say after verbal commands -- he threw the gun on the ground... and was taken into custody. police say one of the victims is in critical condition... and the other is stable. faces charges of battery and carrying a concealed firearm. a father faces child abuse and neglect charges... after his eight- year-old daughter was shot. police say 31- year-old zachary cory was holding a gun in his home... when it went off and hit his daughter. it happened around eight last night near pecos and north las vegas boulevard. police say the little girl was taken to the hospital... and is stable. another adult was inside the home when the

he faces lightweight champion eddie alvarez at madison square garden in new york. with a victory... mcgregor would become a two- division champion... while also holding the featherweight title. it's never been accomplished before... and mcgregor wants to be the first. today -- he told the crowd "saturday night, i become immortal". jon jones was stripped of his interim light heavyweight title. this comes one day after the anti-doping agency announced he would serve a one-year suspension. the 29-year-old failed a test before u-f-c 200. jones was awarded the title after earning a unanimous decision victory in u-f-c 197. the win was supposed to line him up for a shot at the light heavyweight belt. last year -- he was stripped of the official title after being arrested for a hit-and-run charge. jones is the first athlete to be stripped of a u-f-c title for disciplinary reasons... and the only champion to ever be stripped twice.
