catch her. fox5's kathleen jacob has been in pahrump all day talking to neighbors...kathle en are people just in shock? yeah, john christine. they're shocked... they're relieved now that the tigers are no longer here. look at this behind me... this is the yard where the they were... look how short this fence is.. and you can see the this cleared area at the edge where neighbors say the tigers would pace back and forth. we talked to one neighbor who described these tigers as having huge paws and...although being as tall as him on their hind legs. he was shocked when he spotted them. my neighbor pointed out to me that there were some tigers behind his house and i looked over i seen them go back and forth the fence and what got my attention was there was only a 4 ft fence. in pahrump you can have exotic animals but you must have a permit for them and follow strict

guidlelines... this fence is not nearly up to par.. and while the tigers were permitted in texas... they were not in pahrump. according to a police report trisha meyer called pahrumps animal control to ask about permitting. they explained the process but told her her tigers would not be legal unless she went through the process first. she met with animal control and told them there were no tigers in the house at that time... but a couple days later a neighbor spotted them and reported her. when police got to her house they found the three tigers feeding on backyard while a 17-year-old boy supervised. " "shocked. we have two little ones, a 4 year old and a 19 month old. we play out front here every day and it's kind of scary. :06 the tigers have been taken by animal services...they are still in nye country so we tried to go see them but we're not allowed. and meyer is being extradited to texas where she originally faced charges. i did actually go up and knock on

to try and talk to family members that may have some insight...someone was inside the home but told me to get off the property. later in the show we'll have more from neighbors and what they observed in this back yard. reporting live...kathleen jacob... fox5 news...local. las vegas a las vegas woman beaten within an inch of her life... police say the victim's boyfriend -- michael estes -- followed her to las vegas from arizona...and then brutally beat her in a shopping center eric hilt talked to the victim's mother in a fox5 exclusive...and is live at the clark county detention center, where estes is being held tonight michael estes is here at ccdc -- and this is where he has been for the last few weeks. this is estes' mug shot... police say he followed his girlfriend -- kasandra kalinich -- from arizona to las vegas and then beat her inside a shopping center parking lot next to an atm. kasandra's mother, denise, told me every

several ribs were broked and she is having trouble hearing and seeing. the injuries were so bad, denise said she didn't even recognize her daughter at the hospital. "when i close my eyes, all i could see was her being beat, hit, crying for help and i couldn't help her" denise says this isnt the first time the relationship turned violent... she told me that he had beaten her three days in a row just a week before this las vegas attack. that's when kasandra tried to run away. estes is charged with attempted murder and battery... his next hearing is on thursday. reporting live in the newsroom, eric hilt, fox5 news local las vegas a sales tax to fund more cops on the las vegas strip has been unanimously passed by the

sheriff joe lombardo says there's an increase of violent crime in the resort corridor. "its mother milk of economy what makes us tick. granted we have services outside corridor. but breath of economy with fremont and las vegas blvd. so its important we find appropriate level of public safety. and i think we can achieve that with crime prevention act." the commissioners voted to increase point zero one percent. this will put 68 additional cops on the resort corridor. hiring will start in april of next year... when the sale tax increase takes effect. north las vegas and henderson will also benefit from the tax increase. it will also allow them to hire more officers for their jurisdictions. a room tax was also approved by clark county commissioners to help fund a nearly two billion dollar

which could be the future home to the oakland raiders. 750-million of that money will come from the public. the next step is to get approval for the raiders to relocate to las vegas. the room tax will also fund the expansion of the las vegas convention center. it goes into effect next year. there are over five million people who live with alzheimer's disease... perhaps one of them is your parent, or sibling or friend. the numbers will only explode as gets older and congress wants to see an effective treatment for the disease within 10 years. as it turns out.. that goal may be within reach. there is an exciting breakthrough to tell you about and some of it is happening here in las vegas. at cleveland clinic lou rouvo center for brain health.. they in trials with the gene therapy "aducanumab" it's the first treatment to prevent alzheimer's from advancing in a patient's brain .. researchers call

around. wind will be increasing across the area on wednesday with high temperatures in the mid 70s during the afternoon. a wind advisory takes effect at 10 a.m. wednesday for all of the fox5 viewing area. wind gusts will be in the 40 to 50 mph range. much colder air invades las vegas on thursday, bringing high temperatures down into the low 60s and upper 50s. skies will be mostly sunny. friday morning will be the this week with lows in the upper 30s. the weekend is trending milder with a few clouds at times. high temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s. there is the chance of a few showers on monday next week. closed captioning

thousands of homeless people in las vegas received some help today. everything they needed was all at cashman center. our homeless community turned out to cashman center this morning... looking for a hand-up at this year's project "homeless connect".

hours before the doors opened. fox5's les krifaton has more on this annual community service. it's really about connecting the people who need help with the right agency. that is what project homeless connect is all about. i'm disabled and need help with some of my disability problems. ron adkins has been living on the streets for 20 years 16 of those here in las vegas. he knows project homeless connect is where he can get some much needed help i'd like to get some help concerning my wheelchair. you see i bre wheel and i had to put a lawn mower wheel on here and it's not working not too good. we have pulled together over 160 different community organizations emily paulsen with the nevada homeless alliance says homelessness is a complex issue and something that we need to pay attention to which is why so many organizations turned out for to help once as they have for more than a decade. last year we serviced about 3500 people we hope that we can continue to arrived services for that many people and more this year. sadly for some like timothy coming here to

experience. you've found yourself homeless for just a a couple of weeks right? about three weeks going on a month. timothy doesn't want to live on the street for long that why he came here for help, help he desperately wants and says he'll dow whatever it takes to turn his upside down world around. lot of issues with drugs and alcohol, people make mistakes dan kulin with clark county says timothy and ron adkins have come to the right place and should be able to find some much needed help, as for most those waiting in line get inside from job training programs to mental health programs, drug abuse counseling. child care, transportation services really everything that someone would need to get out of homelessness or to prevent them from becoming homeless in the first place. each year many from this community find help they need and that's why they turn out by the thousands

organizers expected more than 700 volunteers for this year's event. a few local celebrities are whipping up some nachos-- for a good cause. strip headliner-- terry fator-- and austin "chumlee" russell-- from t.v's "pawn stars" went head to head at nacho daddy for a nacho making contest. the event was held to benefit 3- square food bank. all year long... nacho daddy has been using a "buy a meal- give a meal" program to help feed the hun they have collected over 110 thousand meals so far. "this is na-cho average throwdown. we're creating nachos. we have two teams that are competing against each other-- the nacho daddy chef versus our chef here at three square." "it's all about bringing awareness to this issue of food insecurity in southern nevada." the winner received five thousand dollars to three square donated in their name.. and-- the privilege of having their

a generous donation is putting the power of music into the hands of students at "desert pines high school" the latin grammy cultural foundation gave them 20 thousand dollars worth of instruments. the school held a special ceremony to celebrate the gift today. it was hosted two-time grammy nominee-- joss favela-- and fox5's own morning anchor-- maria silva. this isn't the first time they've helped a local school last year they donated to rancho high school. time for our students especially and for desert pines high school. desert pines has been a turn-around school and looking to make transformation over these last two years. the biggest thing that we really looked to do is enhance our programming and one of the investments we've made is into our performing arts program." the latin grammy cultural foundation was created as an educational initiative that offers students the opportunity to learn about latin music. singer- songwriter bruno mars can't get enough of las vegas! his latest music video was filmed

meyer recently moved to pahrump and called animal control to ask about getting her tigers permitted. they told her what the process was... and also told her it would be illigal for her to have her tigers there without a permit. she said she didn't have the tigers... but then a few days later a neighbor spotted them in the backyard and called the sheriff's department. when police got to the home they found the three tiger cubs in the backyard... feeding on raw chicken while a 17-year-old boy supervised. it's somethi that has neighbors rattled. "i got an 11-year-old boy in there, and my dog, those cats could jump that fence in a heartbeat and they could jump my 5 ft fence in a heartbeat if they're hungry enough." the tigers are now in the custody of animal control services... and meyer is in custody in nye county. eventually she'll be extradited to texas to face charges there. tonight at 6... hear
