6. local. las vegas it's one of the busiest travel days of the year! experts say more than a million more people are hitting the road for thanksgiving this year. here's a live look at traffic is moving slow right now... and it's a busy travel day -- over at mccarran international airport. more than 700- thousand passengers will fly in and out of the airport... starting now through sunday. officis you'll want to get to the airport a few hours earlier. there's plenty of parking options... but they're expected to fill quickly. r-t-c also has parking lots you can use. airport officials say to check your flight status before you leave... and know where your terminal is ahead of time. thanksgiving is almost here... and usually, that means lots of great food and good company. but some may be stressed out!-- dreading the time with family tomorrow.

everyone has that one relative who just has to bring up politics at the dinner table....and in light of the recent election, there could be some lively conversations ahead. fox5's kathleen jacob talked to counselors and has some tips to help you get through those dinner conversation gracefully, and keep your stress levels in check. of one eventful election cycle... conversation is bound to get heated. set some rules at the beginning of dinner, everybody just say hey, we're here to enjoy each other. if you can't have a peaceful discussion or if it's gonna bring discourd in the family, just don't do it! initially i'm gonna say 'this is like a first date." so we're not gonna talk religion or politics, so let's keep it nice and sweet. we're open to our family's opinions, we can agree to disagree. besides setting rules... counselors say come up with an escape route! if things start to get intense... remove yourself. say you forgot something at the store... and take a break from it all. one of the things i say is take a minute, breathe. take a minute, be in the moment. and above all... remember why you're celebrating... and know it will all be over before you know it. have fun, laugh a lot. yoga: rather than surviving the holiday maybe we can think about how to enjoy the holiday, cause time goes by really quick so just savoring each and every moment that we have with our loved ones. another thing to

counselors say preparing for the stress of the day and just accepting that it might happen... rather than pretending that everything is going to be fine actually helps keep your stress levels lower. while many are making those last-minute preps for thanksgiving... some are only worried about being the first in line for black friday. folks are already camping out at some stores around the valley! fox five's ted pretty is live at the best buy near sunset and marks... where people are lining up. a few high clouds will continue to drift across the area tonight with overnight temperatures dropping into the mid to low 40s. it will be a bit breezy this evening around the las vegas valley with 10 to 20 mph winds. thanksgiving will be mostly sunny with a high

vegas. winds will be light around the valley but will remain gusty down the colorado river around laughlin, bullhead city, and lake havasu. a wind advisory will be in effect for those areas on thursday with gusts up to 45 mph. friday remains mostly sunny with high temperatures holding in the low 60s. a pacific storm mong the west coast will impact our area on saturday and sunday. look for increasing winds saturday evening with some more clouds moving in. the chance of scattered showers is in the sunday forecast with snow possible in the spring mountains. if you're heading up to mt. charleston or lee canyon sunday, this may impact your travel.

excited fans "i'm just being a hockey fan, trying to support las vegas hockey" or hockey fan tourists who planned a well timed trip to the valley "well i mean hockey is our core were from canada so geez what else would we do here in vegas" they said being able to buy gear on one of the first days it was available was something special "everybody wants to be in on the ground floor" when those are planned to hit shelves it's usually a long wait at the d-m-v... now one of its offices plans to close. where the sahara location will be moving... and what d-m-v officials encourage drivers to do... to save time. plus... beware of package thieves... and now people

village is open... but the case involving a construction worker's death on that site has yet to be closed. this is part of a special report you will see tonight here on fox5. now fox5 is learning that if the construction company is fined by osha... the penalty could be as low as 18- hundred dollars. ricardo bautista worked for performance builders incorporated. he and two other people were on top of a scaffold when it fell apart. the other two workers were able to jump off in time... but bautista was not... ever since then... people have been coming forward with information about that work site... saying they could tell the job was done wrong. they got it to the point where only some people got hurt. and that's the messed up part .i wish they would actually learn from their problems, you know learn from what happens. if they did, this wouldn't happen anymore. that's why there's osha regulations tonight at 10:00 -- we will have a special report about this company's history... we'll show you

owner should be in jail. plus -- we investigate the osha system which is supposed to keep workers safe. the d-m-v office on sahara will permanently close next week... to move to another location next door. "we're just asking the public to help us out. use appointments if you have to come into an office. or use alternate services for the next few weeks to help us get through december between the thanksgiving holiday and the move to our sahara office." d-m-v officials say e tuesday after thanksgiving are also busy for them. they urge customers to check the online services first... before coming into the office. you can also make appointments online. the sahara office plans to close saturday december third... and will re-open next door -- on monday december 19-th. a pair of thieves steal christmas decorations off a valley front lawn... and it was all caught on camera take a look at this video. the first one shows a man casing the southern highlands home around one in the afternoon on monday.

he's back with a friend- stealing christmas themed inflatables off of a front lawn. fox five talked with the woman today who says she bought her door bell security camera two months ago... just in time to make these guys internet famous. "i was infuriated. because yes it is just inflatables. but its christmas. like why would you do that befor christmas." the las vegas rescue mission and volunteers from all around the valley are working to make sure the homeless have a good thanksgiving and they've enlisted the help of one young man -- in particular. the mission serves hundreds of thanksgiving meals to the people living on the streets every year. families-- without a place to go-- come to the mission to be together. they are also given blankets... socks... jackets and gloves to help keep them warm during the season. "more and more families are finding a need to come to a place like the las vegas rescue mission just to be to get a

and to be able to celebrate and have a place like this to go and so more and more families are coming to us and that's the biggest change." the mission gave out more than a thousand pieces of winter wear this holiday. one local boy uses his birthday as a way to help collect for the mission. "just the people that you help out down here are just like really cool just to see their reactions and how thankful they are because some think it's just a blanket or a jacket but some people really think its one of the best things you can have down here." 14- year old-- blaze trumble-- has been collecting winter clothes for the homeless since he was five years old. his birthday always falls around thanksgiving-- so he figures it's the best way to celebrate it. shoppers are scrambling to get those last minute items... for the big feast tomorrow. it's one of the busiest day of the year for grocery stores. we stopped by alberton's on warm springs and eastern... where shoppers were picking up turkeys and side

grocery stores will be open tonight... but not all of them will be tomorrow. it's probably a good idea to call ahead... to see if they'll be open. and one thanksgiving staple you don't want to forget -- the pie! marie callenders says today is like their super bowl... since it's one of their busiest days of the year. the restaurant and bakery is selling pre- ordered pies and turkey meals. staff says they're prepared for the rush. "my crew is amazing some didnt leave til 1 and theyre back again we do it every year we do it 25 years theyre well handle it." those who haven't had a chance to shop yet -- don't have to worry. marie callenders is open all day today... and from seven a-m to eleven a-m on thanksgiving. so just how many calories will most of us being eating tomorrow night? a typical thanksgiving feast is around 45- hundred calories... and 229

want to wait until thanksgiving to start eating... so he decided to sneak into a family's freezer. mike chindamo heard a noise in his garage... and didn't expect to open the door and make eye contact with this black bear. he thought his wife left the freezer door open... but was surprised to make eye contact with the animal. mike says the bear has a sweet tooth! "he ignored everything.. there's a lot of fish in here... he took, do you see how this ice cream is here? he took it just like that it was there and took it out, broke when he did it and then my wife's little zucchini cakes." it knew exactly what it was doing and what amazed me most, as a matter of fact this is what the ice cream comes in , this type of container - and he literally put it to the ground and unscrewed it just like that." mike says after the bear was done snacking... it ran off. thanks for joining us.. mike says after the bear was done snacking... it ran off. thanks for joining us..
