florence henderson has passed away. the actress was best known for playing the beloved and cheerful mother of 6 on the 70's hit show "the brady bunch." (here's a story,of a lovely lady who was bringing up three very lovely girls all of them had hair of gold, like their mother. the youngest one in curls.) manager says she passed away last night surrounded by family and friends, at cedars-sinai medical center in los angeles. her manager said she died of heart failure. henderson most recently cha- cha'd her way into american living rooms when she appeared on dancing with the

florence henderson was 82 years old. it may not be snowing up on mount charleston... but a trip to the mountain is just a short drive away. two ski resorts in utah will open for the season today. many resorts around the nation have had to delay opening day due to unseasonably warm weather. but there's finally enough in utah to shred away the season. brian head in southern utah opens to snow enthusiast the brighton resort, east of salt lake city also opens today. park city mountain resort opens tomorrow. and you're looking live at the lee canyon ski and snowboard resort up on mount charleston. the mountain received its first snowfall of the year this week. the weather has been unusually warm this year, so the resort isn't expected to open for the winter season until december

children's museum is teaming up with the nevada ballet theater.. to present the 4- th annual nutcracker extravaganza. the fun, interactive experience will teach children about the nutcracker holiday tradition. there will also be an appearnce by himself. the pop-up goes from 9 a-m to 4 this afternoon at discovery children's museum. the exhibit will be open through december 4-th. you can get a sneak peek behind the scenes of cirque du soleil's "the beatles love"... for free! the mirage is offering people a unique opportunity to sit in on open rehearsals inside the love theater. the next scheduled dates are friday, december 16th and sunday the 18th.

are now showing up in pennsylvania even though they aren't permitted on state-owned roads. the concern is that some drivers could get distracted or confused which could lead to a crash and the city would be held liable. the pennsylvania department of transportation hasn't said if it would take action. but as of now, there are no plans to remove the stripes. veterans village served nearly 2- hundred veterans for thanksgiving. and thanks to the generosity of a local commercial leader, the veterans will now have meals donated at least once a month. "to be able to put on that kind of service with the help of our amazing staff, berkadia will also put together emergency toiletry kits to distribute to homeless veterans. if you would like to help, there is volunteer information on our website fox 5 vegas dot com. dozens of volunteers spent their thanksgiving, feeding the less fortunate.

nevada found more than 125 volunteers to help prepare and serve 15-hundred thanksgiving meals. the team cooked up around 2- thousand pounds of roast turkey.. 375-pounds of bread stuffing... and 15-hundred pints of juice. it's a tradition that dates back to 19-65. everyone left with a full belly and smile on their face. "we help them throughout the year but this is very special for them, many of them don't have families and places to go. so this is where they come to get that feeling of being welcomed getting a good meal. it's very special." catholic charities of southern nevada provides food, shelter and other services. it's one of the largest nonprofit social service providers in the state. around 12- hundred local at-risk families were served a hot thanksgiving dinner over at "piero's italian cuisine." the restaurant's "turkey gobble" fed around 12- hundred people. chefs and employees made 4-hundred pounds of turkey... 2-thousand rolls and 3-hundred

many of these people.... might not otherwise have a warm thanksgiving meal, which is the main reason the restaurant decided to give back. ""so this is our 25th year of the turkey gobble. we started feeding unprivileged children and it turned into this. today were going to serve about thirteen or fourteen hundred kids a full thanksgiving meal and it's just our way of giving back to the community."" loyal customers made donations to help offset the dinner. when the going gets tough, three sisters from brooklyn hit the track. and now the shepard sisters have been honored as sportskids of the year by sports illustrated. the magazine says track and field competitors tai, rainn and brooke sheppard will receive the award on december 12th in new york, and will appear on the december cover. the sisters medaled at the a- a-u junior olympics in houston in july. the girls excelled

we hear countless stories about people helping others. but our fox5 shining star helps feed the less fortunate five days a week, every week. shining star betty raw we've got vegetables here, broccoli, cauliflower nats- salad bag over here we have salads "aunt betty" is getting ready for the big thanksgiving feast, but her friends, neighbors, community members are thankful for her all year round. breads and sweets, all kinda sweets, you name it. we have it. she drives to vons grocery store and -picks up the stuff they can no longer sell. then she sets it up in her own driveway. she even donates what she grows! (lemon tree) i went to ca to get that tree and i just give it away, they say i give everything i got away this is my pantry. the people will be coming, they're already coming and they'll unload it.

""so this is our 25th year of the turkey gobble. we started feeding unprivileged children and it turned into this. today were going to serve about thirteen or fourteen hundred kids a full thanksgiving meal and it's just our way of giving back to the community."" loyal customers made donations to
