police will announce a new program ... asking for your help to solve crimes. it's called vegas safe cam... and it'll use your home or business surveillance to catch criminals. fox5's cyndi lundeberg tells us how this program will work.

her car was returned. im thankful i had the surveillnace video and im hoping metro will use it to catch these people and prosecute them that is exactly what metro wants to do with their new program called... vegas safe cam. jodi vecchio - im hoping this program can decrease crime in the valley here's how vegas safe cam works... businesses and homeowners wold install surveillnace sytems then register them with metro police. if theres a crime in your area police would contact you to look at your video... or if you notice somethign in your videos.... you could contact investigators yourself. jodi vecchio - i hope it works metro wants everyone to know unless there is a crime they would not be monitoring your system... and your video would only be used for official police investigations. jodi vecchio - i hope this program will go well and theyll use the fotoage jodi vecchio is still spooked a criminal came into her garage and so close to her family... but hopes her story encourages more people to get surveillance for their homes.. and hopes police will monitor the video coming in to solve crime. jodi vecchio - you put it on your house and its going to protect you nad your family and hopefully it will deter the criminals

rover was returned... a man said he bought it for 15-hundred dollars, there was a little damage and all her christmas presents were stolen... but the man who stole her car... has not been identified or arrested. thats where you come in... this is the man jodi says is repsonisble.... take a good look and call police if you recognize him. cyndi lundeberg fox5 news local las vegas>> people across the valley are receiving racist letters. the offensive notes are being sent on letterhead from a local h-o-a and a law firm. the letters, containing racial slurs seem to be mailed at random and have been circulating for about a year. john leach says

nor the spring valley neighborhood homeowners association has anything to do with these letters. "they've gone to reno, theyve gone to mesquite, they've gone all over the place....to categorize people in the way that theyve done, to me its a hate crime." leach says he's talked with metro, the fbi, even the u.s. department of justice all to try and stop these hateful letters from being sent out. the days of free parking on the strip are coming to an end. m-g-m, caesars, and wynn resorts have all announced new parking fees for their properties. caesars entertainment will start charging 8 to 18 dollars for valet parking, depending on the location. vistors will also have to pay to self-park. those prices have not been announced yet. but there's good news for locals.... we'll be able to self park for free. at least for now. less then a day after the announcement from caesars, wynn resorts

drivers will be charged 13 to 18- dollars for valet parking. but self parking at wynn and encore will still be free for now. locals and tourists we spoke with say paying to park is a sign that times are changing. "20 bucks that you could use for a meal or something now you have to spend on parking that kinda sucks" "we came here 43 years ago where we could stay at a hotel for 19 dollars, so things have changed!" m-g-m started the pay-to-park trend back in june. free at all m-g-m properties through the end of the year with valid i-d. the changes for caesars and wynn resorts will take place in the next few weeks. it's time to deck the halls. but beware, those beautiful decorations can become holiday hazards if they aren't used properly. the consumer product safety commission warns that two holiday staples, candles and trees, can be fire risks. make sure you don't put candles too close to drapes or other fabrics. and never leave

you water your tree regularly, especially if its decorated with lights. and parents, place those smaller ornaments out of reach of your little ones. and keep an eye on fragile or glass decorations, if they break your child could get cut. safety should always be a top priority during the holidays. it's time to fill the fire truck. the annual holiday toy drive starts today, at all clark county fire stations. the fire department is partnering with the southern nevada burn foundation for the 15th annual toy drive. now through december 18th, you can donate new, unwrapped toys or gift cards at any clark county fire station. your donations will benefit local kids who would otherwise go without presents this year. the annual 98- point-five kluc toy drive kicks off today. last year, the toy drive collected almost six-thousand bikes and more than 430-thousand dollars in gift cards and cash donations. that's in addition to over 30 semi-

tennessee cooled hot spots still smoldering from wildfires that had expanded into residential areas. but the large quantity of rain came as a mixed blessing to firefighters. miller says: "a new challenge that the weather is creating for us, after the fact, is we are experiencing some small mudslides and rockslides because there's no longer that foliage that's holding everything together." the storms also produced heavy trees and power lines - limiting access to hard-hit areas. survivors are sharing stories of narrow escapes. michael luciano posted this video after he and his brother fled a fire engulfing their neighborhood. their exit route blocked, the pair had to turn around and head back toward the flames before reaching safety. serrie says: "two days after flames raged across this hillside community just outside gatlinburg, some structures are still smoldering. this private home was completely destroyed. the one next door was left untouched. but the owner had a close

hunt for a gold thief. it's not a leprechaun... but a man caught on tape-- swiping an 86- pound bucket of gold flakes from an armored truck. it happened the guard briefly went to the truck's cab to get his cell phone. police say the thief lugged the the gold flakes up the street... but because the bucket was so heavy, the ten minute walk, turned into an hour march up the street, before he fled in a white van. police think the suspect may be hiding out... possibly in florida. dogs are more than just man's best friend....

than just man's best friend.... they are very smart creatures. one man says his pup was clearly watching his every move. and now it's getting the dog-- a lot of attention. this is pablo... he was adopted about three months ago. and while he is a good puppy-- his owner says pablo has had a few accidents. when pablo spent the night with his owner's friend.... he just couldn't hold it.. but he was polite-- and attempted to clean up after himself. just like his owner-- he grabbed toilet paper and started to clean up the mess up. the owner's friend says--- he couldn't even be mad because pablo was trying so hard to clean up the mess.

yesterday we showed you some thrill-seekers who braved the cold in the frozen tundra for a marathon. now we're getting a look at how they spent their downtime before the race.... they did the mannequin challenge! and they were literally frozen in place! athletes were chilled to the began the challenge in the minus-20 degree weather. after freezing in place, the runners still had to jet off to finish the race, which sent them running two laps around the exploration camp. this is definitely the coolest challenge we've seen so far! plenty more
