after talking with students and university officials who say his comments don't represent unlv abby: a lot of shock tonight and emotions. students protesting a professor who said he'll report undocumented students to ice. both student and university officials say this goes against what the school stands for package nats (keyboard) jessica scheffer: hateful and violent and exclusive and ignorant third year unlv student jazz scheffer is talking about the unlikely professor posted to her friends facebook js: he added a smiley face at the end of his comment just essentially describing how happy he would be to send out this undocumented students to ice and it scares me that he feel so comfortable with the stance that he could say this in public george buch- a part time math professor at the university- had a lot to say about unlv supporting undocumented immigrant students. last night a former student of his

unlv president len jessup signing a letter in support of the deferred action for childhood arrivals program and undocumented immigrant students. buch commented calling undocumented students illegal aliens. he also said while he doesn't mind diversity - he minds criminals. in another comment buch said "i would have to turn you into ice :-). no safe spaces in my classes" nats phone ring i called buch - he told me he's working with the school's office of compliance to resolve the situation but he wouldn't say anything else. the university trying to stay ahead of the situation sent out this statement highlighting jessups support for undocumented students. nats key board jazz and her friends at undocu-network an on campus support system for undocumented students tell me they fight these kind of comments all the time but never expected it from a professor js: sigh i don't think i've ever heard it directly from a professor like this maybe the heightened sensitivity post election it seemed a little bit more harsh but usually

homicides, the department is stil closing about 75 percent of those cases -- a cleared percentage thats about the same as it has been in previous years with fewer homicides. soc those winter temperatures are dropping by the day! and it looks like wind could be causing us some trouble tomorrow. let's check in with fox five's meteorlogist sam argier with a quick look at the forecast. skies will remain partly cloudy overnight with temperatures falling into the low 40s and upper 30s. a system diving in from the north will bring gusty winds across southern nevada on friday. wind gusts around the las vegas valley will be in the 30 to 40 mph range. even stronger wind is expected along the colorado river valley. a wind advisory will be in effect for mesquite, laughlin, and lake havasu city throughout the day on friday with wind gusts in the 50 mph range. high temperatures friday will be in the mid to low 50s. it stays

down sunday. skies will be mostly sunny this weekend with temperatures back up around 60 sunday. we'll see another surge of cold air for the middle of next week with more wind and below average temperatures. the city raked in nearly 114 million dollars in publicity after the final presidential debate. that's more than double what officials thought it would bring in.

mack center was the third most watched in history-- attracting more than 71 million viewers. nearly five- thousand media members from around the world were in town to cover the debate. the l-v-c-v-a says hosting the debate confirmed las vegas' reputation as more than just a leisure destination-- but also as a serious place to do business. new at six... sunrise hospital hosted a dui prevention event for valley students today. the event called " santa is coming to town, please don't hit him"--. is national impaired driving prevention month. sunrise hospital brought in teens from las vegas high school and unlv athletic department to raise awareness and show students first- hand the dangers of driving under the influence. ""we've seen the worst of the worst here, unfortunately you know the most tragic events as a result of impaired driving. so when we get a chance to speak to high school students and possibly prevent any of these tragic events from happening to their family or someone else's

this year more than 140 people have been involved in deadly d-u-i crashes in nevada. metro is starting a new surveillance program to help them catch criminals faster. but they're asking for the valley's help. "vegas safe cam" relies on the public's personal security cameras to stop crimes. you register your device online-- giving metro access to your footage. this help them track crime from house to house. if you're worried about privacy-- they only use your c there's a crime happening around your house and they always ask for permission first. "if we use a piece of video from your house, we'll be careful how we use that or if it's business or wherever. quite often you'll see that we'll show suspect descriptions and we'll crop it down to where you just get the face or if it's a license plate number or a vehicle description." you can join the database on metro's website. the "welcome to las vegas" sign is

the new hue brings awareness for "world aids day." a few clark county commissioners joined representatives from "aid for aids of nevada" to flip the switch. the normally yellow bulbs change colors throughout the year for special months and days. according to "a- fan"... there's an average of one person diagnosed with aids every day. "today they'll be having free clinics that are going to be open and available. you know, we made huge strides in our community along with afan." benefits opportunity village. new drone video gives a different perspective of the wildfires around gatlinburg, tennessee. this was shot by cnn i-reporter andrew duncan. he describes the area as a "war- zone." you can see shells of burned houses, scorched trees and a smokey haze covering the area. national park officials say the fires that reached gatlinburg began days earlier on a trail in the mountains 10 miles south of the city. at least seven people have died. the blazes have scorched thousands of acres in the resort-heavy area, burning more than 700 buildings in sevier county. now fox5 weather 24/7 skies will remain partly cloudy overnight with temperatures falling into the low 40s and upper 30s. a system diving in from the north will bring gusty winds across southern

senator harry reid announced that a new tier one transportation center will be coming to u-n-l-v. one-point-four million dollars was approved for the project. the center will join others in the country and will be focal point of research by advancing the high-speed rail infrastructure. it will also help boost the economy and reduce our dependance on foreign oil. this will be the second transportation center in nevada-- after one at u-n-r. u-n-r is focusing on recruitting international students the university is

recruiting companies to campus next week for interviews. the school's provost says the decision is to provide more expereinces to students an to make more money. he adds that international students pay out-of-state tuition. the school's president says bringing diversity to campus for students and in the community is a goal of the growing college. right now-- the school's international population is three percent. the school's provost says increasing that number to ten percent would put u-n-r in line with similar schools. the university of nevada--reno could pay nearly a million dollars to release football coach brian polian. he would break his contract with the school a year early. u-n-r and polian agreed to part ways sunday. polian was paid a base of five thousand twenty five dollars and had a year left of his five year contract. the school will owe polian nearly five thousand sixty nine thousand dollars if he doesn't get another job before his contract expires. there are no longer any

who says holiday shopping is just for the humans. no, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. that's a beaver inside a dollar store in charlotte hall, maryland. the st. mary's sheriff's office tweeted photos of the beaver going down the holiday isle--- even looking at some christmas trees. the beaver did cause a little trouble-- it knocked down some shelves, but no major damage was done. eventually animal control rescued the beaver from the headache of holiday shopping. the beaver is now relaxing at a wildlife rehabilitation organization. thanks for joining us..
