regents says they may have "dropped the ball" when it came to the search for the new president at the university of iowa. subhash sahai says the hiring of bruce harreld could seem like the 9-member board was biased; however, sahai says the university needs to just give harreld a chance to do his job. harreld's hiring has lead to a lot of backlash... protestor nats - 5 seconds... this group of protestors gathered outside yesterday's board of regents meeting in iowa city.. protestors were demanding the regents resign because of how they handled harreld's hiring... the regent's board continued the meeting today in iowa city... kwwl's kristin rogers speaking with students and facutly who were a part of yesterday's protest, kristin what was the mood like?

they told me they are angry...and what they want is a resignation or removal of bruce harrold as president...and they're not stopping there... they want the entire board of regents to resign. a new group called iowans defending our universities organized this protest. the group was formed specifically as a responce to the hire of bruce harrold as president and i'm told four to five-hundred people gathered to be a part of this. many people believe the way bruce harold was hired was corrupted and sneaky. they believe he was hand picked without real consideration for the other three candidates, levaing students feeling un-heard... it happened at the wasabi restaurant just outside of prairie du chien wisconsin yesterday afternoon. the restaurants owner, young su kim, was found by an employee, covered in blood... he was apparently attacked by jacob erwin, kellen jeffords and thomas wilkins, all from illinois, in town working on the railroad. they're charged with battery and burglary.. kim, also known as key, was med- flighted to la crosse with severe head and brain trauma. in the wake of recent shootings -- one university of northern iowa instructor is asking his students how they would respond to an active shooter. as kwwl's macleod hageman reports -- it's an uncomfortable conversation -- that needs discussed. following a defense training course -- university of northern iowa instructor marty hansen recently learned the teacher is a gunman's first target in a campus shooting. so -- he took to social would respond if he died... "mr. hansen says he now locks his door during class. so, if a student is late, they actually have to text him a special message to get inside. granted, it's not fool proof, but it does buy some time for students behind the door in case theres and active shooter." "i think we all learned that we all need to have a plan, and we all need to have the same plan, because if we do different things it's not going to end well." hansen says the university of northern iowa professors in that training learned several ways to keep students safe in the event of an

2012 iowa caucuses. fiorina has been spending a lot of time in iowa recently, including a town hall meeting in waterloo over the weekend. kwwl's jerry gallagher sat down with her to talk about a number family leave. she offered it to employees as a company executive, but is against a government mandate -- requiring -- businesses to do the same. road-rage incident between him and the girl's father. 32-year-old tony torrez was arrested after confessing to the murder of lilly garcia... he's charged with multiple crimes and is being held on $650,000 cash only bond. torrez allegedly opened fire on a pickup on the freeway killing lilly -- shortly after her father picked her up from school. are going door-to-door looking for information about seven church fires in the last two weeks... all the fires at the church's in investigated fire accelerants on an exterior door. until last night's fire -- all of the churches ha d been predominately african-american congregations. in continuing coverage... the state medical examiner's office still hasn't released autopsy

results for a man shot by police. cedar rapids police officers shot and killed 21- year-old jonathan gossman late on tuesday night. gossman allegedly fired his gun at officers while they were trying to arrest them... his body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy yesterday. the two officers involved weren't hurt, but they are on paid administrative leave. volkswagen is trying to find out if more of their cars included software that cheated emissions standards. previously 11 million cars were impacted by the cheating software, a spokesman with the company says he knows more cars are being checked, but not how many. last month the epa announced that volkswagen had rigged its diesel cars to pass the emission test, then go back to a different mode during normal driving. every feel jilted at subway? thinking your footlong sub is actually less than a foot? that won't

if you work hard, and you do your part, you should be able to get ahead and stay ahead. but the republicans... they want to go back to letting the super wealthy call the shots. they don't stand up for equal pay for women. they don't support paid family leave. they don't even really support refinancing student debt. we've got to get this economy working for the vast majority of americans, not just for those at the top. that's what i intend to do as president.
