night not long before midnight. the driver drove off the highway, into the grass, hit a sign, a tree... and then finally it ended up inside the garage. there was one passenger in the car who had minor injuries. she was taken to the hospital.... but is ok.. the owner of the garage tells me he's glad no one else was hurt because there were children near by. he also says he's not surprised this happened here. "and you hear a lot of screeching tires. a lot of lane changes and a lot of horn honking. and almost near accidents.i see that quite often. here. the owner says hi usually has at least one tractor or vehicle inside the garage. the driver of the vehicle was 44- year-old rex thompson. he was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. we've got you covered live in the newsroom... amanda gilbert....kwwl news. this was the second time the driver was arrested for an o- w-i. new details this afternoon-- the driver in a hit and run turns

himself into police. the hit and run happened sunday and sent a 13-year- old to the hospital with a broken nose, missing teeth, and other broken bones in her face. this morning, steven arceneaux showed up at the waterloo police department and said he may have been the driver. police say he's now facing a charge of leaving the scene. a family is pleading for help in finding their son. moe sed was last seen at his home in waterloo thursday afternoon. he's a refugee from burma and speaks accented english. his family says they're worried because he needs his medicine... "please help us find him. we see his face." his mother says he doesn't know his address. if you have any information please contact police. continuing coverage -- we now know the name of the woman found dead in benton county over the weekend. and we've learned investigators are treating it as a homicide.

25-year-old sabrina hustad's of the home on 59th street trail. earlier in the day -- the sheriff's office responded to the home for a report of a stolen truck. this surveillance video is from a neighbor -- you can see truck lights in it. david miller is now facing (cg: jacob cady/ neighbor) "we were out in my driveway, just talktting, and one of the neighbors seen blood truck face planted in a pool of blood." while this happened at miller's home -- at this point -- he does not face charges related to the homicide. an autopsy is ongoing to determine how the woman died. firefighters are trying to figure out what caused a house explosion. no one was hurt in the janesville explosion yesterday. one of the first to respond to the scene -- a neighbor who just happens to be a firefighter. he was not on duty at the time. he was standing outside when the explosion happened... "i'm glad nobody was hurt, and we may have lost a house out of

the deal, but everything can be replaced, just glad that everybody is ok" the inside of the home is destroyed. waterloo police are investigating a weekend fire as an arson. according to firefighters, the fire at the ramada waterloo hotel and convention cente started in the maid's closet on the fourth floor. the fire did not spread to any nearby rooms -- but there is smoke and water damage. no one was hurt. an incident at a south carolina high school monday where a police officer appeared to body slam a female student and drag her across a classroom is now under investigation. the confrontation captured on cellphone video has also drawn intense criticism on social media. nbc's gabe gutierrez is in columbia, south carolina with the story. the local sheriff here in richland county says he has fields is on administrative duties after the incident yesterday. it was captured on several cell phones and those videos have gone viral. rain will be heavy at times today and tonight with strong winds bringing in cold temperatures tomorrow and thursday. stormtrack7 doppler radar is showing that rain tracking through the southern counties right now.stormtrack7 live weather network is showing wet roads in some areas, including coralville. temps are in the 40s and 50s and are cooling as that rain tracks into the area with warmer temps to the west where it isn't raining quite as much. east winds have taken over... they are 5 to 15 mph across the state and are gusty today. moisture continues to track in from the south with a low to the west... that has energy and some moisture but most of the moisture is to the south and that will track our way as it is pulled into the system. rain will be heavy at times and will add up to over an inch and, in some instances, could top two inches! we have the rain starting later this morning and becoming widespread

acorss the country. he and attorney general loreta lynch head to chicago for a police chiefs conference. it's aimed at showcasing different tools to fight violence and crime. the conference comes after chicago endured yet another deadly weekend of gun violence. yesterday, chicago's police superintendent called for national background checks for gun purchases... "we're not going to relent. we dying, and we need to do something about it." will events. the baltimore police department is rolling out a new body camera program. different camera systems december. police hope the program will create transparency with the community. this comes following the death of a man who was injured in police custody -- and some are rule -- which lets officers stop recording when they see fit...

while shoplifting in saint louis. you can see them running out of a sporting goods store here -- they took almost three- thousand dollars in merchandise. the male suspect plowed into an 87- year-old nun on his way out the door. police say the suspects were also involved in two other shoplifting incidents at the same mall. a man says an e- cigarette explodes before he uses it, even though he guidelines. he says it blew up as it was on the charger -- sending pieces of metal and plastic around the room... "it just went bam, it blew up "they say it's safe indoors, but apparently it is not because it just want to let people know that those things are not safe." according to the man - he took the e-cig back to the store and employees pointed to a sign reading "e-cigarettes can explode" they told him to buy another piece of equipment to prevent it from exploding -- one the store did

cigarette. fake money is making it's way through businesses in the tri-states. over the past month, dubuque police say they've seen more than twenty cases of counterfeit money being used at stores. they're seeing bills of all sizes. some businesses have fallen for the fake cash. "i thought i'd go back and get them something to eat to make appreciative." he says this sort of the thing isn't out of the ordinary, but he is glad someone was there to get it on camera.
