first day, as well.. some students and teachers even calling for him to resign - on his first day. kwwl's nikki newbrough followed students during these protests earlier today.. she's live in our newsroom... n nkki? yes,,hundreds of people gathered to share their disgust. they were chanting "resign" and "bruce harreld has got to go." hundreds of people gathered around the noon hours at the pentacrest on campus. they then moved inside jessup hall to outside of bruce herrald's office...although it was unclear if he was even inside. protesters i spoke with say the search for president herrald was flawed, underhanded and illegal. they say the regents diddt listen to the students and staff. one professor told me if herrald knew about this flawed search, shame on him. "or if he wasn't he shouldn't want to work with these peopte that have malipulated the facts and the trutut with the so called open search." john logsdon says he actually spoke to bruce herrald today and

he says they shook hands and bruce herrald indicated the protestor didn't have all the information reguarding his resume. we've got you covered live in the newsroom nikki newbrough kwwl news. proossor logsdon says he will continue to push back and fight this hire. harreld is taking over for sally mason who served as the president of the university for eigt years.. she was no stranger to controversy in her time at the school... in her last year students protested against mason after a daily iowan article insinuated she though fully getting rid of sex nature." but they don't have a zero tollerance policy against rapists... actually we do no you don't we'll we're working hard to try and elimnate violence against women... following this protest, mason implemented a six- point plan to combat sexual assault on campus... mason is also credited with on- campus recovery from the 2008

students took the day off today... some 200 kids in the monticellio school district didn't show up because of a potential gun threat. kw-wl's shirley descorbeth is live on the scene with the latest information. shirley...tell us what you know. early is morning monticello police received an anonymous text message shortly after the start of school day saying a student would bring a gun to monticello high school. the police couldn't gather more information because the person immediately opted out of the conversation. the district posted on their website they didn't anticipate danger to any of the students but they did take the threat seriously. because of the threat ore than today...that was more than 200 kids. "given the current state of we were able to inform parents

lincoln... she suffered severe head injuries and later died in the hospital. a man injured in a farming accident is expected to be out of the hospital by next week. 46-year-old gary kluesner was working on a tractor in rural farley on friday afternoon when he was injured... he was airlifted to iowa city for his injuries, but is now showing signs of improoement. his family members tell us people have stepped in to help kluesner's harvest while he's in the hospital. decision 2016 coverage now... a relatively unknown democratic candidate is dropping out of the race for president... harvard professor lawrence lessig announced to his supporters that his campaign has come to an end... his campaign never got off the ground compared to major players like clinton and sanders... lessig claims the democrats won't let him be a candidate -- and saiys after the dnc change debate rules, he can no longer pursue the nomination for president.

died when the plane crashed in egypt's sinai peninsula on sautrday... investigators do know that the plane fell very quickly, that it broke apart in mid air and that the pilots didn't issue any mayday call. a woman ishospitalized after drunkely breaking into the henry doorly zoo in omaha to pet the tiger -- which in turn bit her hand... 33-year-old jacqueline edie was apparently drunk yesterday morning when she broke into the zoo to pet the tiger... those with the zoo think aa 18- year-old malayan tiger named mai was the one who bit her... edie was cited for trespassing. a semi driver is okay, ut several of the hogs he was hauling died... after the trailer on hiss tractor rolls over a guard rail... it happened in grant county wisconsin this morning... the sheriff's department says richard kipp from fort atkinson was hauling a trailer loaded with 150 hogs... when he tried to negotiate a

sharp curve and his trailer went over a guard rail... some of the pigs got loose and needed to be corralled... some others died in the crash. kipp wasn't hurt, but he was cited for driving too fast. the president signs a bipartisan two-year budget bill today... the bill hit his desk last week... it prevents a national default... which would've come tuesday, which was ththdeadline by which the u-s would've defaulted on financial agreements. the president says the budget deal puts the governement is a positive step... and will avaoid former president jimmy carter is cancelling plans to go to nepal -- to stay in the us and build homes for habitat for humanity instead... carter is in memphis tennessee, helping build a home today... the 91-year-old was cleared to travel to nepal by doctors who were treating his cancerous brain tumors, but his trip was called off because of "safety concerns"

naturally time to start thinking about holiday shoppping. major retailers across the nation are already offering up holiday sales -- holiday- specific sections are already hitting stores like target, walmart and toys- r-us... though it may em early, it's for good reason... retailers stand to make a killing during holiday shopping seasons...
