let's check on your weather now with storm track 7 meteorologist another nice start to the day with temperatures in the low to up to 5 to 15 for most of the day. mostly clear skies will allow some fog to form, especially toward the quad cities, but that should burn off today with plenty of sunshine expected. it will be another warm one... highs in the low to mid 70s again today. and we have one more well above normal day before we have rain tracking through that will drop out temps back to normal for the weekend. i'll have that forecast for you in a few minutes.

local races around the area will be decided today as thousands of people cast their vote in the 2015 elections. but before voting opens - - those working the polls and campaigns are gearing up for the day. kwwl's jessica hartman has a preview. candidates for mayor in waterloo and cedar falls, that its going to be a bigger turn "some of it too, could be the years. is somebody going to come in that is going to try and really help get waterloo back in a positive light? i think we really need that." no matter who people are voting for here in waterloo or around eastern iowa - - alice and patty are hoping citizens exercise their right to vote. where or when you can vote - - we're also keeping an eye on levy votes. in waterloo -- voters must decide whether to support the grout museum district. it would mean an increase in property taxes -- but grout museum supporters say the increase would be small. a similar effort failed in 2013 and since then, the museum has made cuts. banning the box... it's a movement to have the question - "have you ever committed a crime" - removed from certain applications. the vote on the whole issue -- postponed in waterloo. if the question was removed from applications, an employer could still later on ask a potential employee if they have commited a crime the director of the waterloo human rights commission says its better this way.. but some employers don't agree. "its less awkward to be able to about it in an iterview, we just dont like the interview to center around those types of things" abraham funchess, director of

the waterloo human rights commission says its great to have this mentality... but doesn't believe all business owners do-- that's why he wants to ban the box. he says the commission needs more time to educate the public before they present it to the timeline of when that'll be. the superintendent of the monticello school district does not believe extra police will be needed today -- despite a gun threat yesterday. more than 200 students skipped school after police received an anonymous text saying a student would bring a gun to monticello high school. the district posted on their website they didn't expect any "given the current state of affairs nation wide we chose to take it seriously and as soon as we were able to inform parents we did so." the school normally doesn't have police on school grounds, but did yesterday following the threat. a man injured in a farming accident is expected to be out of the hospital by next week. 46-year-old gary kluesner was working on a tractor in rural

tangled up and injured. he was airlifted to a hospital in iowa city. his family tells us members of the community have stepped in to decision 20-16 coverage this morning... a new poll this morning shows just how frustrated america is with washington. plus, the most popular candidates... and who's now on top. but tracie potts tells us americans are split over whether they want democrats or republicans in charge. new from our nbc-wall street journal poll: americans are frustrated. the deck's stacked against them. well over half would fire their member of congress. "you can't just tell congress... 'you're fired'... and go to commercial break." the biggest surprise: ben carson at 29 percent - the biggest lead of any republican so far. "what you're seeing right now is the conservative and the outsider wing has really taken charge of the energy of the party."

"in washington, the key for a if you talk to a farmer, the farmer doesn't want less subsidy, the farmer wants more right? you got to tell the farmer, look if we can lift the country, you're going to be better off." kasich also discussed one of his top campaign platforms -- balancing the federal budget. today -- he heads to dubuque for another town hall -- then departs for an event in mobile, alabama. a relatively unknown democratic candidate is dropping out of the race for president... harvard professor lawrence lessig announced to his supporters his campaign has come to an end...

ground compared to major players like clinton and sanders... lessig claims the democrats won't let him be a candidate -- and says after the d-n-c change debate rules, he can no longer pursue the nomination for president. the company behind the keystone x-l pipeline has asked the u-s government to put the project on hold. controversy has swirled around the project for years. the planned pipeline would run from alberta, canada to texas, but the company was seeking a border crossing permit from the american administration. transcanada is currently undergoing a dispute with nebraska over a preferred route in the state. here in iowa, the controversy surrounding a pipeline project continues. the iowa utilities board considering whether to use eminent domain for the bakken pipeline project. that means the government can use your land for a public project. the pipeline would carry half a million dollars of crude oil from north dakota, through iowa, to a distribution center in illinois. some farmers are worried this project will go right through their property, but governor branstad says that's not true...

"they're not taking the land. they're only using the land to state." the iowa utilities board will begin discussing whether eminent domain can be used for the project. day one now in the books for new university of iowa president bruce harreld -- but not without plenty of controversy. harreld, a former ibm executive, was chosen from four finalists to serve as ui president... but, he's faced adversity, even before being selected by the regents board to lead the school. and harreld says he's here to "they're gonna have a hard time figuring out how to move them, what are they gonna do what's their option here? i am here, i am started, here we go, you know what's next? we've got to move on." meanwhile -- hundreds gathering at the pentacrest on campus and eventually working their way outside harreld's office. some protesters say the search for

"or if he wasn't he shouldn't want to work with these people he actually spoke to bruce herrald and told him to resign. he says they shook hands and herrald indicated the protestor didn't have all the information regarding his resume. professor logsdon - who we just heard from - says he'll continue to push back and fight the hire. people in ohio will vote on marijuana legalization today. this is the first time voters in a state election will decide whether to approve recreational and medical marijuana at the same time. under the measure, people living there would be able to grow their own plants for personal consumption. growing commercial marijuana would be allowed on ten farms. and ahead of today's vote, one organization is using this mascot to inform people about the vote.
