good evening. i'm ron steele. and i'm amanda gooan. thanks for joining us. a suspect i i shot several times after a police chase comes to an end... now in the hospital with injuries... the chase appeared to start at 4th and wellington, near anfinson and luce, an attorney's office in waterloo... the chase ended about five miles away on south hackett road. kwwls lauren mossjust returninn from the scene, and speaking with neighbors. she joins us now live in the newsroom, lauren we do know this is an officer-involved shooting, where a man wasshot multiple times . now lets get right to the video shot around 4th and wellington and then a chase ensued for about 5 miles. as you can see, there's caution tape in the street near the law firm, there are also evidence markers on the ground, which for shell casings. from that scee, a chase enssed for about 5 miles....and that brings us to south hacket road, where

officers arrested the suspect. the suspect was taken to united point allen hospital for treatment. i spoke e ith one woman, who lives right across the street from the scene where the shooting happened...she says enough is enough..she doesn't even feel safe in her own home anymore. i get ssred police car r oing by i get scared..i get to praying. it's just too much too much. neighbors told kwwl , they saw one person taken off on a stretcher and taken away by ambulance. police say no officers havve been injured,,only the malelesuspect. now because this is an officer involved shooting- the iowa division of criminal investigation has been called in to assist. moss ...kwwl news. we'll update you as more information ecomes available... firefighters rescue a dog from the kitchen of a a urning home... cedar falls firefighters came

middle of the afternoon in april... the first murder in years. kwwws hillary maain was at thh witnesses say luerkins stabbed himself too. months after that fatal stabbing the trial finally started today... with several witnesses recounting the events of the murder. wounds in her body." severalwitnesses all said they heard screaming and expletives before actually arriving on the scene. luerkens began trying to stab hmself once people arrived... and some witnesses tried to convince him "i just kind of ttckled him. thh knife went one way, and him and i were grappling." one employee managed to get a hold of the knife so no one else would get hurt. police arrived on the scene and took ntrol of leurkins just minutes later. attempted to bend the knife into a hook so he could more easily stab himself. we've got you covered in cedar jurors are expected to see a surveillance video of the murder over the course of the trial. it's election night across the

state and many eastern iowans out at the polls casting their vote in local elections. polls are saying turnout is a littll above average so far. if you haven't casted your vote yet, there's still time. polls are open until eight p-m. in aterloo, thesefive people are ooking to be e next is not seeking reelection. kwwl's nikki newbrough is live in downtown waterloo. nikki you spoke to all of these candidates. they a ae all very passionate the job. but what's unique about this race, there could be a runoff. quentin hart says he wants safer ssreets, and thaa includes building that trust between law enforcement and the community. tim hurley agrees with stopping the violence. he suggests working with teachers, faith leaders, business leaders, and others whh wanttto help.

bill carninenedied wednesddy, but election officials say the news came too late to take his name off ballots in ida grove. carnine was the only candidate for the ward 2 seat. it's not just municipal elections on the ballolotoday today... several levy votes are also happening throughout the area -- including a vote for a tax levy for cedar rapids residents to help fund the public library... the library levy has been a big topic in cedar rapids for months, that's where we find kwwl's kristin rogers... i just got off the phone withh thee elections office, they tell me numbers are still down this year compared to recent years... even though the library tax has been a popular topic, it hasn' increased voter numbers so far... is is video of the cedar rapids library, which was built in 2013 while some say it was over built, the library says the tax would be for their

jeb bush was a very strong governor, probably the strongest governor in the history of the state of florida. he was a young guy and i think there were some folks in the legislature that thought they might be able to run over him. th didn't happen. one tax cut wasn't enough- he had to do more. it wasn't enough to have 15,000 kids with school choice in florida, he wanted to have 100,000 kids. if he didn't like a project, it was going to be vetoed. it didn't matter if you were a republican. it didn't matter if you were his best friend. he said: 'this is where we're going, this is how we're going to reform state govovnment...' every politician comes in talking about making change, and generally there's not much change. but governor bush made a lot of cnges. he got the nickname veto corleone. if he saw something in the budget that he thought violated his conservative principles, you could guarantee it was gonna get whacked. he vetoed a bunch of my stuff and i was the senate president.
