his family moved to waterloo just a few years ago. kwwl's nikki newbrough is live in downtown waterloo. nikki you went to his school today. you know he left school around 11:00 on the 22nd. after a short conversation with his father, he took off on his bike. it didn't seem out of the ordinary, but no one has seen him since. his family is heartbroken, and his teachers feel the same way. (nats:"so this is moe sed's desk right here.") moe sed's seat...currently empty....front and center in catherine wagner's classroom. "i know that i'm because he's missing and we don't know where he's at." they say having him gone, is like a piece missing at west high school. "he's a nice person every time he sees me in the hallway he always greeting me, like what's up bro." missing posters with moe sed's photo on it can be found in the front office, hallways, and classrooms. (nats:"there's also a phone number of the missing poster.") they're not giving up

people to look for him. wagner and her sister, both teachers at west, even organized a search on their day off of school last week. "i mean the most important thing as a teacher is the safety missing we need to go out and find that particular person." they say they think of moe sed often and hope he returns home soon. "i think of him everyday. he's the first thing i think of when i wake up in the morning. i hope he's ok. when i go to bed at night i always say to myself i hope he's soemwhere warm, i hope he's somewhere safe." the wagner sisters say they search for moe sed on their own time. they say he knows english, but it may be tough for him to communitcate he needs help.

normal through next week. we are tracking a storm for the middle of next week trial is nearing its end. closing statements were made today by both prosecution and defense. nicholas leurkens is charged with first degree murder.... he's accused of stabbing and killing 29-year-old lynnsey donald - in front of her seven year old son... donald was stabbed as she was walking out of the marion hy-vee in the middle of the afternoon in april... kwwl's hillary maglin is live now at the linn county courthouse with more. hillary - what can you tell us? both sides spoke to the jury one last time today in hopes of swaying their opinions. prosecutors again showed evidence... such as the murder weapon and notebook full of luerkens' plans... as well as video of the incident. defense re-stated their claim that

luerkens was suffering from a mental disorder at the time if the murder and could not control his (sot. cg: prosecution) "nicholas luerkens made a plan what he did." (sot. cg: defense) "nick asked his mom, dad, and sister to kill him. he asked the doctors to kill him. he's grabbing his wounds." prosecutors say because luerkens said he wanted to die because he didnt want to go to jail... proves he knew his actions were wrong. jurors will resume monday. weve got you covered live in cedar rapids... hillary maglin... kwwl news. both sides believe luerkens was suffering from mental illness... but prosecution claims it was not so serious that luerkens didnt know his actions were wrong. the iowa department of public

safety have determined the cause of a motel explosion that killed a man. the explosion took place last month at the shady rest motel in cedar falls. according to the d-p-s -- matthew ferleman blew out a pilot light on a gas appliance in a room the previous night. the report from the d-p-s also states that when the man awoke the next day -- he lit a cigarette that caused the large explosion.... d-p-s is ruling that ferleman did this in attempt to take his own life. a nationally known golf course clubhouse is destroyed after a fire started in the pro shop. multiple departments helped fight the fire at the amana colonies golf course early this morning. the fire took about two hours to put out. after the smoke cleared... you could see burned golf carts and that the clubhouse was destroyed. fire crews on scene say no one was "and you drive up here over the hill and then you kind of see there's absolutely nothing left... it's scary." "a lot of people are definately going to miss it for a while...

the genral manager says this is the golf courses 25th anniversary and they've recenlty started to turn the golf course around financially. fire crews are still investigating the cause of the fire. decision 20-16 - - the debate will continue in milwaukee for g-o-p candidates but the line up will be different. today - - debate host- fox business announced the eight candidates who will take the main stage -- the ones on your screen -- and the four who will have to settle for a spot in the earlier debate. kwwl's jessica hartman analyzing the selected candidates and polls here in iowa . . .jessica, do they line up? and carson - - not surprising. but when you starting looking at iowa polls the candidates who barely made the cut . . .probably

wouldn't have here in iowa. the top eight for prime time debate were selected based on their performance in the last four national polls. here in iowa - - candidates like have -who nationally made the cut for tuesday's debate. kwwl's political analyst, chris larimer, says this isn't surprising - - iowa polls haven't aligned with national polls in recent years due to the very conservative nature of iowa caucus goers. "in iowa, a signifgant chunck of those folks identify as born again christians or socially conservative. we can probably expect probably 35 to 45 percent likely caucus goers to say their evangelical christians. in new hampshire, that's just not the case, nationally that's not the case." larimer says for candidates who are too focused in on the iowa vote . . . it long run. larimer also pointed to ben carson's recent controversy

park wildlife sanctuary near la porte city. kwwl's macleod hageman visits the park -- where animals and rangers are hard at work. mac? amanda/ron -- the song goes -- give me a home where the buffalo roam -- and rangers are doing just that -- but for bison, eating.) it's the quiet sound of work -- near la porte city. (nats... come on guys, come on.) south unit ranger al finke says bison, elk and goats are eating invasive plants -- like multi-flora rose, honey suckle and even poison ivy. (nats.. goats eating tree.) "those areas we're working on doing some brush cleaning, it gets all the dangerous stuff out of there and gives us some it." those areas include a new 30-acre enclosure for bison and elk -- and a one-thousand acre movable electric fence for goats. "we're putting those animals in here to turn that area back to the savanah-type area that it park rangers remind you to respect

their space." may ohnesorge...so congratulations to you." it's a celebration here in the north court room of the dubuque county courthouse. as four kids officially become members of their new families. "it means so much, we have wanted to expand our family for years now and we heard about the foster system and that there were kids needing homes and we had a home to give." molly and tom coyle have been foster parents to jolee and carlee...for the past year and a half. "it's been wonderful, it's been so nice to see maggie become a big sister and learn to love these little girls like they are her own and it's just been wonderful to watch our family grow and develop into a family." "and this is the first time adoption day has been held here in dubuque...and there will be many more throughout the month in iowa."
