and they say the unknown respiratory illness is highly contagious. kwwl's jessica hartman explains what you need to know to keep your r og healthy. jessica -- i definitely care about this. will my dog be safe? mac -- if your dog is vaccinated -- you and him should be ok. its similar to a flu shot for us - - it doesn't completely prevent the illness but if your dog does get sick - - -it wont be as severe. a local vet tells me it's commonly known as kennal cough. he says its something hesees occurring in large numbers twice a year. -- and right now - he's seeing at llast one case every day. pet owners should know -- the cough typically last about three weeks. since it would take too long to get test results -- vetes are "" this coughiig, its been called kennal cough forever. it could be any number of different sudden starts coughing, and the cough gets worse and worse, and it can be productive; where all of a sudden at the end of a coughing cycle it will try and hack something up."

u-w hospital in madison for injuries. des moines police find a man -- shot to death -- north of downtown. authorities responded t t 13th street and jefferson avenue 10-30 last night -- and found 28-year- old jose lopez on the ground. police are investigating the incident as a homicide -- and they're tryiyi to track down the shooter. if you have any information about the shooting -- please contact your local authorities. continuing coverage tonight -- the amana community is urning the loss of their beloved golf clubhouse -- after destroyed the building yesterday. it took two hours for firefighters to gain control of the blaze. right now -- pieces of the building are barelylystanding. to get an idea of how mucuc damage there is -- take a look at this -- showing the before and after pictures of the building. even though the cauase remains under investigation -- several people are looking for answers. wl's hillary y aglin joins us live

after traveling to amana. hillary -- how are people mac... you could still smell the smoke coming from the clubhouse... which has been reduced to a pile of ash and debris. the once-thriving clubhouse now sits in a vacant parking lot blocked off with caution tape... and the main entrance is closed. the golfcourse walking areas nearby are still open... but few people took advantage of this... as seeing the still- smoldering structure... that was sttnding just 2 days go... was a bit difficult. "you could go in there and have a beer or two, or a pop, and just kind of watch the wildlife walk around. yeah, it'll be missed." several people in the area raved about the view from inside the clubhouse and said they'd be debris. most residents are just glad no one was hurt in the early morning fire.
