them to shut down that well. we can now tell you - - the waterloo water is safe to drink and has been since friday. kwwl heard your many health concerns over the weekend - - kwwl's jessica hartman went looking for the answers to your many questions. jessica, what did you find? in speaking with a pediatrician and the water works today - - i've f fund that very few residences may have been exposed to high nitrate levels. those who were e t risk most - - babies and pregnant women. spike in nitrate levels in a less than 24 hour period between wednesday and thursday of last week - -is concerning. "we are looking for that cause and effect and what caused that to happen."

period there was some risk to residents, who live close to well 22 on fast dale street. "there is a maxium levellof 10 parts per million. fortunately, all of our other wells are well bellow 10 parts per million. this particular, for a short period of time spiked above 100parts per million. maybe somebody right in the vacinity of the well could have been exposed." most waterloo residnts drink water which is a mix of several wells - - and that diluted the nitrates from well 22. but how would you know if a baby or pregnant woman showed signs of high nitrate levels? "methemoglobinemia, pecially in a baby will cause blue baby syndrome and that's because the oxygen is not being transported to the rest of the body. then it causes the skin to appear blue. the same thing happen with women, they will feel fatigue, short of

emergencycrews respond to a gas leak at dubuque regional airport. it happened this morning after a gas line was hit during construction near the new terminal building...which is not open yet. black hills energy was called out to repair the leak. airppt officials ss the leak in continuing coverage... police are investigating a shots fired incident that led to a car ash in waterroo. it happened yesterday afternoon around four. the car crash happened in the neighborhoods of courtland and vinton street. kwwl's nikki newbrough is live in the kwwl newsroom. nikiki you've been looking into this. the police chief tells me they still don't have anyone arrested in the incident. he says it could have been a ot orse and someone could have died. police chief dan trelka says one car was getting shot at by another car. that caused this vehicle to lose

reinbeck school district are calling for the district to be dissolved... this after the board of education voted to close one of the district's three schools because of declining enrollment. in may citizens gave the board a petition, now the board must set up a referendum for residents to vote where to dissolve the district. the head of the national highway transportation safety administration is changing his position ononseatbelts -- ow making every effort to get seatbelts on america's school buses... mark rosekind says the administration is accepting data showing seat belts on school buses reduce injuries and save livee.. a shocking announcement today from seaworld -- the park will be phasing out their killer whale
