causing them to shut down that well. we can now tell you - - the water is safe to drink and has been since friday. we've had numerous calls, emails, and facebook questions about the water safety and health concerns. kwwl's jessica hartman spent the day digging up the answers to our viewers many questions. jessica? i've followed up with the watt work and met with area pediatrician - - they tell me very few residents were at risk of being exposed to high nitrat levels. those who would have beenn effected most by increased levels - - babies and pregnant women. because most of the city's water is a mix from several wells - - the nitrate from well 22 on east dale street was diluted to a safe level. but water works says those near well 22 may have been exposed. "this particular, for a short somebody right in theacinity

of the well could have been exposed." how would you know if a baby or pregnant woman shows signssof being effects? "methemoglobinemia, especially in a baby will cause body. then it causes the skin to appear blue. the same thing happens with women, they will feel fatigue, short of breath." the well has been shut down since friday -- because of this, doctor davidson says there is practically zero risk of exposure at this point. he also told me - - there was no risk of babies being effected through a mother's breast milk. covennt did not have any y ases linked to the nitrate levels in the past five days. i have also reached out to allen and have not gotten a report back at this time. we'vegot you covered live in

waterloo...jessica hartman kwwl news. waterloo water works says it's still workinnon determining the cause of the sudden spike. we wa to reiterate- - the water is safe to drink and has been since friday. emergency crews respond to a gas leak at dubuque's regional airport. it happened this morning after a gas line was hit during construction near the new terminal buildii...which is not open yet. black hills energy was called out to repair the leak. airport officials say the leak won't affect operations or air ravel. a shots fified incidenttturns into a car crash in waterloo. it happened yesterday afternoon in broad daylight. police are trying to figure out who pulled the trigger. kwwl's nikki newbrough is live in the newsroom. nikki?

it's pretty lucky no one got hurt. police chief dan trelka says while they continue to investigate, they just need someone to come forward with information. police chief dan trelka says one car was getting shot at tree. "trelka say what's frustrating is there are a number of witnesses who are not corroperating." "it is frustrating because even some people in the neighborhood around and walk back into their home." witnesses say four people ran from the vehhcle. trelka says they talked to the driver and a passenger in that wrecked car....who say they didn't know who shot at them. trelka says several people did call the police station as soon as they heard gunshots, but they were unable to provide names. ...kwwl news. trelka says this appears to be an isolated incident. if you have any information, contact police. a man is dead following a motorcycle accident. the accident took place friday night at 3053 rohret road sw in iowa city. according to the johnson county sheriff's office, the driver lost control and slid into the ditch. 26-year-old i-an liang was taken to the hospital for (is injuries - he later died. a psenger was witit liang on the

motorcycle - they were taken to the hospital with non- life threatening injuries. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. one person is in the hospital following a vehicle rollover accident. the accident happened in the on lincoln road a mile north of fayette. according to the fayette county sheriff's offffe, 18- year-old zachery sedo was driving when a deer walked onto the road. sedo swerved and lost control and entered the ditch. sedo was taken to the hospital. wartburg ollege willlbe making some tough decisions this week . the private college in waverly is facing a budget shortfall, along with declinging enrollment. three professors are looking at loosing their jobs. president darrel coleson should be making a decison tomorrow. gov. terry branstad is rejecting a request that tt
