let's check on your weather now with storm track 7 meteorologist eileen loan. good morning. some areas have dipped into the mid 20s this morning although others are still in the 30s. winds are light to only around 7 mph from the south and we have clear skies. there are some clouds to our west and they will track into the area this afternoon. we will still have a pretty nice day temperature wise.. highs will be back into the mid to upper 50s with southeasterly winds at 5 to 15 mph. a very strong storm system tracks through tomorrow and thursday and will bring some pretty active weather to the viewing area. i'll have the details in a few minutes. breaking news this morning -- a

this saturday night in des moines. one person is dead after being shot by police at a college -- a shooting that left the campus in lockdown. it happened monday night at spartanburg methodist college in south carolina. police say an officer was investigating a car break-in when someone got behind the wheel of that car, took off -- and then hit the officer. the officer fired and killed one person inside. another person was later arrested. the officer should be ok. plice are investigating a shooting near another college campus -- this time at clayton state university in georgia. police say the victim has serious between the first and second shot there were about 2 to 3 big thud and as we went out we saw the gentleman layingon the floor begging for help that's when i calleddthe cops. no word yet on whether anyone has been arrested. a mall is locked down after shots are fired. it happened in dearborn,

michigan. no one was hurt -- and no arrests have been made. police called it a dispute check out what one officer is faced with -- in a matter of seconds. body camera video out of oklahoma shows a suspect driving a stolen s- u-v -- and driving it rigdt at an officers squad car. the officer fired two shots as the s-u-v rammed the cruiser. the suspect wasn't wounded -- but police had to use a taser to get her out of the s-u-v. continuing coverage this morning: a man will be sentenced early next year for murdering a woman outside the marion hy-vee. "upon the verdict4 the jury finds you guilty of murder in the first degree." nicholas luerkens has been convivited of first degree murder in the death of lynnsey donald. he killed her - in front of her seven-year old son... in april. luerkens was taken out of the courtroom in handcuffs, telling his family he loved them on his way out the door. as for lynnnsey's family -- her father read this statement.

"we will all miss that loving her son ashton and you know will appreciated." luerkens will be sentenced to life in prison on january eighth. today, the sentencing hearing begins for a white supremacist convicted of killing three people in a jewish community nter last year. the shootings happened in kansas. the man said he did it to prevent genocide on the white race. among his victims -- a 14-year-old boy. today, it's back to practice for the universitt of missouri football team. dozens of players threatened to boycott if the university president did not step down. that's exactly what president tim wolfe did yesterday. he says he takes full responsibility for the frustration studees have over what they saw as his indifference to racial tension at the school. there are no survivors after a plane crash in colorado. a small plane went down shortly after taking off in colorado springs. we don't know how many people were on board -- but again -- police are investigating a suspicious package is found at an airport it happened in miami. no one was injured -- but the investigation caused delays. police have not said what the packaged turned out to be... a little boy is being called a hero for simply being a good listener -- and then putting his education into action. lolita lopez tells us the child saved himself and his grandmother from a burning home. as we first told you yesterday, starbucks has new, plain red holiday cups. it removed -- what it calls the symbols of the season -- which included reindeer, snow flakes and christmas ornaments. the company says the blank canvas allows yyu to tell your own christmas story -- by adding your design. but many people are fired up about it... accusing starbucks of waging a war on christmas. this is what donald trump had myself. i have one of the most successful starbucks in trump tower. maybe we should boycott starbucks. i don't know. seriously. i don't care." trump went on to say, if he's elected president, everyone will say "merry christmas" again. as the coffee giant finds itself in the middle of that controvrsy -- it's being thanked by many for this decision. starbucks is going to offer free tuition for a spouse or child of its veteran and active military reservist employees. it also announced it has hired more than five-thousand veterans and

chicago bears fans haven't had a lot to celebrate this season... but they saved one of their better performances for prime time. bears and chargers on monday night football. down five points with a few minutes left -- bears' quarterback jay cutler fires a bullet over the middle to tght end zach miller, a tremendous effort -- and concentration -- to make the catch. the bears then held on for the win --- 22-19 over the chargers. a packers fan wants the panthers quarterback to pay up. a green bay fan says he followed all the rules -- when he put up a sign before the packers played carolina on sunday. he say panthers quarterback cam newton spotted the banner during pre- game warm up and took it down.
