restaurant -- and there are fatalities at a nearby theater where several people were being held hostage. a police officer confirms an attack in the same neighborhood as the charlie hebdoe shooting -- killed some time ago. one person confirms an explosion at a restaurant near a soccer stadium. listen to this... nats explosion at this point -- officials are not confirming whether the incendents are related. the french news channel reports the hostage situation started with a shooting -- one hour into a concert -- where people came into the theater and started shooting in the air. at this time -- president obama says the united states stands "once again we've seen an outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians. this is an humanity and the universal values that we share."

trying to kill another inmate is sentenced to more time in prison. 22-year-old michael swanson sentneced to 25 more years in prison. swanson slashed an inmate in the neck at the iowa medical and classification center in coralville last year. swanson was already serving two life sentences for two fatal shootings in 2010 -- when he was just 17-years old. deicison 2016 coverage -- g-o-p candidate chris christie campaigning in eastern iowa today. the new jersey governor hosting a town hall meeting in cedar falls this morning. christie speaking about imigration reform and saying building a two thousand mile wall isn't the answer. he says he wants secure the border and use technology like drones to monitor action there. christie answering a number of other questions, including ones about potential opponent hillary clinton. i owe about $68,000. i owe $44,000 in student loans. my plan, the new college compact, says you should not have to borrow money to pay tuition if you go to a public college or university. and you ought to be able to refinance student debt. and i don't believe the federal government should be making a profit off of lending to young people who are borrowing to be able to get their education. we have got to make college affordable.
