at the ced-rel motel in cedar rapids. police arrested and charged this man -- michael lehman -- with first degree murder. we first brought you this story on today in iowa this morning. the linn county sheriff's office says it got a call about a stabbing around 12-30 this morning at the motel. when they got there, they found a man on the floor in one of the rooms with stab wounds. jimmi-jon lint was taken to mercy medical center -- but died from his injuries. he was 23. michael lehman made his court appearance this morning in linn county. again -- lehman is charged with first degree murder in this case. we still don't know a motive at this point -- the linn county investigating. the preliminary hearing for lehman will be november 25th at 8:30 am. new at noon: nine people are trying to figure out their next steps after a fire leaves a duplex damaged. it happenened this morning shortly after eight o'clock on the nine hundred block of center place in dubuque. firefighters were on scene for more than two hours putting out the fire

a neighbor says he noticed flames coming out of the top of the house...then called 9-1-1... morning, and then i'm pounding on the one on the left, immediately the door comes open...a young man comes out, i try to run in...make some more noise try to see if there's anythinf else i can help with." fortunately...no one was injured in the fire...but a cat and dog are missing. the red cross was also on the scene helping the families affected. at this point -- crews don't know what started the fire. a business has to rebuild after a semi crashed through its building. the owner of faust millwork and cabinetry in dyersville says she got a call this morning around six o'clock saying a semi from across the street rolled into her business. you can see the damage...where that semi drove through the building. she says it'll cost thousands to fix...but is in good spirits about the situation... "we're just lucky it rollled in between tow of the ibeams of the steal buildings, so it;s not as

no one was injured in the incident. the business owner says their insurance will help with the damages. an update now to an incident that happened over the weekend. waterloo police blocked off ridgeway avenue -- because a man was threatening to hurt himself on nearby sheridan. they were able to negotiate with the man and took him to the hospital. according to the officer we spoke with, the man was not threatening to hurt anyone else. the french capital remains on edge amid three days of mourning, following friday's deadly terror attacks. n-b-c's bill neely reports from extraordinary. at least 150, targeting only the beginning. but its prime minister also warned it may be only the beginning of more attacks - more, he said, are being planned in france. raids of a different kind blitzed isis in syria. a dozen french warplanes hitting their stronghold in raqqa. us forces also involved. authorities today named the man they believe

the candidates discussing terrorism and battling isis following friday's attacks in paris. while the event was held at drake university in des moines -- there weren't many references to iowa. and at least one reference was inaccurate... just think about this-- since we killed by guns. twenty-one mass shootings, including one last weekend in des moines where three were murdered that statement is not entirely true. there was a shooting at a des moines nightclub more than a week ago in which one person was killed. there were three murders in the area that weekend -- but they were seperate incidents. bernie sanders is also in iowa campaigning. he says the u-s needs help "i think we have to bring common enemy here, an enemy that that people have got to get boots on the

sanders is also linking climate change to terrorism -- and he says the defense department and c-i-a both feel the same way. police in pennsylvania were led on a wild chase after two zebras escaped from the circus. they got loose and just ran out the front gate of a circus in philadelphia. their escape was short lived. both zebras were caught less than an hour after the escape was confirmed. but that didn't stop the two circus animals from becoming celebrities on social media for a short time. now authorities are trying to figure out how they escaped in the first place. coming up... how a new service is helping homeless students get to school and, turkey day is coming up-- will the bird flu lead to a shortage of turkey's this holiday?

close the prison. the prisoners are now in the united arab emirates. there are still 107 people being held at guantanamo bay. the u-s wants to move them to countries that'll keep them from joining terrorist groups. another u-s goal is to make sure their human rights are protected. a commercial flight is evacuated because of suspicious activity. the flight was heading from washington to boston when crew members grew concerned about two passengers. everyone on board was told to get off the plane while authorities swept the aircraft... . rifles going on the plane...a lot of security. two people were getting questioned." the two suspects were later released. the f-b-i is investigating after weapons were stolen from a massachusetts armory. according to the f-b-i, there is no indication the weapons are connected to any kind of terrorism threat... the massachusetts governor says the armory is in a busy area and surrounded by a barbed wire fence. it's unclear what type of weapons were stolen or if there's a suspect description. police shoot and kill a man after he pointed a gun at them. authorities say it looked like a real gun... but now say it was fake. it happened in california. the d-a's office is now investigating. in minnesota -- an officer-involved shooting leads to protests. but some are calling for the protestors to be patient while the investigation continues. police were called to investigate an assault -- when something happened between officers and the suspect. an officer fired his gun -- killing the suspect. some witnesses claim the suspect was in handcuffs when he was shot -- but police deny that... "we're doing the iron dog spartan flight, which is what making finals this weekend...happy." this is the fifth year the competition has been held in dubuque -- and it'll be back weekend.
