they do study abroad programs. one of the victims was an exchange student from california. despite this, local universities don't expect many changes to their programs. the university of dubuque says they don't have students in paris right now...but did during the summer. changes. addressed the issue with kwwl. kwwl's nikki newbrough is live in the newsroom. nikki? we caught up with him right before this mornings basketball game. this is the first interview president ruud has done since those two young students died. he says they are reaching out and listening to students needs. (nats of ball game) going to college...much more than just athletics. "college students have a lot of stress." and college president william ruud agrees. "the issues of mental health someone you love it's very very difficult. we are engaged, we are engaged through out counseling office, we are engaged through our student affairs office." just this semester two students have died in the dorms. here you can see a memorial near the bell tower. for the president he says they are continuing to listen to what student needs are. "how we can just reach out and take care of one another. so that these kinds of things don't happen again." he says they've implemented a program called "one is too many." it's an effort to create that community and grow

that sense of connectiveness. "we all are involved in creating out students, faculty, and staff." mark rowe-barth with the wellness center says they are currently reaching out to faculty and staff. they are making them aware of the struggles these students have. "students that come here, faculty that come here are in a safe place so that they're taken care of." ruud says they've been researching this program for a few years now. they started implementing it in the fall. we've got you covered live in the newsroom nikki newbrough kwwl news. ruud says they still have counselors available for anyone that needs them. he says they have also reached out to the community for help a man accused of trying to kill

an elkader woman is arrested in wisconsin 25-year-old brandon thoma is charged with attempt to commit murder.... investigators say thoma drove from pella to elkader -- attacked a woman in the home on november 10th... the victim was found by her husband when he got home from work. thoma was arrested in madison wisconsin... the clayton county sheriff's office is working on extradition. in continuing coverage.... a dog and cat that went missing during a house fire were found safe. nine people were displaced from the fire yesterday in dubuque - but they all got out safely... the dog was found in the house and the cat escaped the burning home but was found outside, according to our coverage partners at th media... an investigation into the cause is still under way. body cameras in police departments have been in the news a lot lately -- and now firefighters are following the lead. soon one eastern iowa fire department will be using helmet cameras..

the cedar falls fire department about their new purchase.. believe will make a big difference when it comes to investigating fires. that's right- i spoke with the cedar falls fire chief who tells me these helmet cameras will be like an n-f-l instant replay for firefighters- helping to bring better like the one behind me. the cedar falls fire department just purchased 3 helmet cameras. the videos will not only help analyze fires, but it will also help educate and train well. it's also important to know ...these cameras are much john schilling, cedar falls fire chief this is one of the only cameras don't even want to be in but they've gone over that threshold just to make sure that they are safe and protetced and they can be submerged up to 33 feet deep in water." here's a look at a firefighter's helmet camera in action.

the game was part of espn's tip-off marathon... 24 hours of college basketball... kwwls amanda gilbert shows us this looks..... and sounds like a iowa.... but this clock isn't lying.....it was 6:12 in the morning and fans started arriving at the mcleod center to see the team play at 7... fan one: "i thought it was gonna be bad, but i got up and i was once.. didn't even hit the stop fans from having a good time "on a scale from like one to 10... i'm at about like panther nation so i think it's about time for the game to start." missing class....
