elkader woman. brandon thoma has been charged with attempted murder. investigators say he drove from pela to elkader -- attacked a woman in a home last week. the victim was found by her husband when he got home from work. thoma was arrested in wisconsin. this morning, one person is recoveng after a stabbing in a waterloo parking lot. popoice say mark kelly stabbee the victim ininthe arm in the casey's parking lot on la porte road. police later arrested kelly after he tried to run away from the scene. he's charged with first degree robbery. alarming new research this of women are raped during their first year of college -- when they're unconscious or unaware because drugs and alcol. the ststdy of 500 freehmen found those who had been rape victims before college were more likely to be assaulted again. experts say sexual assault education needs to begin earlier -- and prevention efforts should not be limited to college campuses. it could take more than 100-

thousand dollars to fix the damage caused by cemetery vandals. dozens of grave sites were damaged in west texas. the gate to the emetery might have been rammed -- and the church believes some kind of machinery was used to knock over the headstones. "i've never seen anything like this and i cannot believe hat people are so godless that they do not even let the dead rest in peace." there are some unmarked this is a very moving tribute -- for a veteran who passed away. the 80-year-old u-s marine corps veteran did not have any family to make funeral arrangements. so, e company handling the services posted his story on their facebook page and asked the public to help them give him a properal funeral. the response was overwhelming. more than 1- thousand people -- from fellow veterans to complete strangers -- showed up

eastern iowa refighters noww have a new way to use theirir heads to investigate. the cedar falls fire department is getting three new helmet cameras. the fire chief says the cameras will help investigate and analyze fires. this is one the only cameras that actually will sustain heats they've gone over that threshold just to make sure that they are safe and protetced and they can be submerged up to 33 feet deep in water." here's a look at a helmet camera in action during a rececet fire in ohio -- we showed you yesterday on today in iowa. the cedar falls fire department hopes to start wearing the helmet cameras in january. right now, moror than 300 people without power in linn county. we don't know what caused the outage. we do know high winds caused all kinds of power probllms in another state.

thousands of people are in the dark in memphis. one tree toppled onto a home -- falling right through the roof. no one was hurt. highghwinds are alsooto blame for one death in seattle. a strong wind storm bashed the northwest... sending waves onto the shore... creating flooding... and knocking down trees and power lines. at least one person was killed wwn a tree hit a car. a bus driver was also hurt when a city bus was hit by another tree. the future looks much brighter for some old buildings in dubuque. the city council approved more than one million dollars in ttx abatements. that will help convert buildings like the sacred heart school and holy ghost convent to senior living facilities. "it is a sign of the times. different ways than they used to." a senior living facility is also being planned ear the church of the nativity, and another one as part of the applewood senior apartments. in all, about 200 units would be added in the city. we're a month away from the
