formed to their knowledge, but a strong 20 second gust of wind around 2am is the cause of all the damage. the national weather service has a crew out surveying the damage. a seven-hour police operation took place near paris today, targeting the mastermind of last week's deadly attacks on the french capital. nbc's richard engel reports. amateur video captured some of the heavy automatic gunfire that erupted when elite french forces raided an apartment outside paris this morning. the main target officials say was the alleged mastermind of the paris attacks. but as the raid began, a woman in the apartment blew up a suicide vest. police ordered residents to stay inside... anyone who approached was told that no uncertain terms to back away. neighbors, many of them searched. we stopped this resident who was rushing down the street. he said in arabic that he had witnessed the whole thing. i started he said.

working to safeguard the millions of pilgrims expected to the white house holds a conference call with governors. many governors across the country -- including terry branstad -- are concerned about syrian refugees and will not welcome refugees into their states because of terror concerns. the department of homeland security and state department telling governors the government is doing a thorough vetting of refugees. president obama was not at the white house at the time. speaking at an event in the phillipines, hte called the american values"... "we're welcome, we're open to hearing actual ideas but that's year-old orphans, that's political posturing." several republican congressmen have also expressed concerns about refugees. we caught up with a syrian native in eastern iowa who had this to say...

"i feel i have a larger role to inform the people. i think a lot of those fears happen because of ignorance, and i have lots of sympathy for many, many people in the state of iowa, and the surrounding community." he says before the attacks on paris... he felt he and other syrians were accepted by america... but feels that has changed. a felon is charged with a hate crime in the beating of a man at a dubuque bar. federal authorities arrested randy metcalf yesterday. he's expected to make his first court appearance today in cedar rapids. metcalf is accused of repeatedly kicking and stomping on the face and head of a man during a fight in january. new at noon: a crash in buchanan county could have been a lot worse. a truck hauling anhydrous tanks got hit by a car. the sheriff's office says a 19 year old driver ran a stop sign -- hitting the truck. nobody was seriously hurt. new research is out today looking at rapes among college students. and the numbers are concerning. about 15-percent of women are

drugs or alcohol - during their first year of college. the study also found those who had been rape victims before college were more likely to be assaulted again. an airline passenger has been arrested after allegedly trying to sneak a knife on a plane in his underwear. according to the t-s-a, it happened monday afternoon when the man tried to clear security with this double- blade knife in his carry-on bag. when t-s-a screeners told him he couldn't take the knife past the checkpoint, the man left only to return later with the knife concealed in his underwear. port authority police arrested the man on a state weapons charge. decision 2015... candidates for waterloo mayor and city council will participate in a forum tonight ahead of the december first runoff election. it starts at seven at city hall. kwwl will host a debate between the mayoral candidates quentin tim hurley. it's presented by kwwl and the waterloo cedar falls courier. the show will air this sunday morning, right after meet the press.

the fight over medicaid in iowa gets highlighted in washington today. three democratic state senators are in d-c, agruing against governor branstad's plan to privatize medicaid. they say the governor's plan leaves too many questions unanswered. the state would move its 4.2 billion dollar medicaid program to private insurance companies. as of now...branstad's proposal is scheduled to start january first. the governor says this will improve health care outcomes and cut costs. coming up... internet giant-- amazon is rolling out some big deals ahead of black friday-- we'll let you know when they all begin, coming up and, what a woman does to her wedding dress after her fiance breaks

"you're watching kwwl. we've got you covered, with ally "now your storm track 7 forecast on kwwl." from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team. see the screen for your complete weather information. here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: welcome back i'm meteorologist kyle kiel. we continue to track scattered rain throughout the afternoon and evening hours. no thunderstorms expected, but it will be windy at times. the wind will continue into tomorrow, and then we are tracking the chance for rain and snow as we head into tracker. not for storms, but for the wind on thursday. we will have mostly sunny skies but it will be windy. we could have gusts 40 to perhaps 50 miles per hour at times, so that is why we have the low threat. here's the storm track 7 live doppler radar. we are tracking some rain showers, especially in the western part of the area. this is part of that large storm system that has been feeding moisture into the area since monday. also with this area of low pressure we are tracking the high wind speeds. gusts at times have been between 3- and 40 miles per hour. once this system departs the region, we be tracking the next storm system that will bring the chance for snow as we head into the day on friday. this

is still off the coast, so once this gets on the coast, we will begin getting better data on the track and strength of the system. temperatures right now are continuing to fall. we are right around 50 degrees and will fall to the 40s throughout the afternoon. here are the current wind speeds. these winds are gusting up to 40 miles per hour at times. so it will continue to be breezy along with that chance for rain. storm track 7 live weather network shows an overcast sky all across eastern iowa. it is also windy. here's a look at future track. as we go throughout the early afternoon and evening we will be noticing some rain showers. the rain will be winding down. there could be a couple of flakes, but for the most part, the moisture will have tracked away from the area by the time temperatures cool down. we will continue to see skies clear throughout the overnight, leading to a nice day on thursday with sunny skies. but again, that wind will be howling. here's a look at the futuretrack wind gusts. we will have gusts this evening up to 30 and 40 miles per hour. tomorrow, these winds will be gusting up to 40 or 50 miles per hour at times. so you will want to make sure any loose furniture is secured. here's the forecast for today. we will continue to have windy

patrick and his mom made signs calling for various items and posted them on boxes around town... so others can donate and help the homeless as well. as we head into some of the biggest shopping days of the year -- it seems many people plan to shop at the office. only 30-percent of people say they feel guilty about bargain hunting during work hours. but a similar number of people feel their coworkers are not pulling their weight when they shop on company time. the future looks much brighter for some old buildings in dubuque. the city council approved more than one million dollars in tax abatements. that'll help convert buildings like the sacred heart school and holy ghost convent to senior living facilities... "it is a sign of the times. different ways than they used to." a senior living facility is also being planned near the church of

eastern iowa woke up to weather damage across town take a look here-- this is in marengo. strong winds destroyed this cub cadet building storm track seven hillary maglin is in marengo now with the very latest. what can you tell us? many marengo residents woke up to damage all across town this morning after an overnight storm. strong winds overnight ripped off the buildings roof and blew debris throughought town. iowa county emergency management says no tornado formed to their knowledge, but a strong 20 second gust of wind around 2am is the cause of all the damage. the brooklyn elevator also suffered significant damage.
