road... getting back in the swing of driving in unfavorable conditions isn't easy.. that's why the iowa department of transportation is making changes to their plows to help keep you safer on the road kwwls olivia mancino saw those changes today, she joins us now live..outside the new changes are affecting more than 200 plows in iowa.. its called the blue light projjt, and it's been in the works for a while this in efforts to make plows more visible for drivers, and to prevent crashes when visibility is low the first snow of the year isn't always welcome. "its starting to get a little colder than i expected sooner" anxiety for drivers . whats the worst part about roads"

"winter drivvinn isnt only fruststating it can also be very dangerous, that's why the dot is implementing new technology to prevent crashes" these plows may not look so different from last year, but these blue flashing lights can cause a world of difference . youre driving down the road and you get the snow circling around the back side of the just a few snow ploo accidents in iowa... by implementing blue and white lights, the d- o-t hopes it'll make plows more visible, preventing injuries and damage to both vehicles. "you know obviously the pretty expenssve to replace, if we knock a spinner or brine out it puts the turck out of service for a little bit" the dot currently has 213 plows with these lights, ready to be put to the tee. "it would be a big help,especially when i go to work in the daytime and its still dark ouside "when we see if they're blue and not red we'll see their plows and not the back of the

knocked down buildings and trees in th area. the wind also blowing theeoof off the cub cadet convenience store... and knocking down parts of the brooklyn elevator. residents say they were worried their huber/marengo resident) "my boyfriend was coming hooe into marengo this morning and he saw all the trees down. his thought in his head was he hoped a tree didn't land on his car over there." emergeny management says there was not a a ornado last nnght to their knowledge... but many people in marengo say it certainly felt like one. luckily --no injuries were reported. a former city clerk is facing federal charges -- she's accused of using city funds for personal use and burning down the city dillinger set fire to the sey city hall -- the night before state auditors were expected to begin investigating the missing money.

charged 300- thousand dollars to city credit cards over six years . a man accused of abducting his ten- year-old stepdaughter is sentenced to up to 71 years in prison. 49-year-old kenneth johns, of coralville, pleading guilty to two counts of child enangermend. the kidnapping and other charges were dropped in the plea deal. johns admitted to taking the girl from a home in solon in march -- triggering an amber alert. johns sayiyi he took the girl because she was allegedly being abused by her mother -- shelly johns. shelly pleaded guilty to child endangerment charges in aprrl. authorities are looking for a registered sex offender after they say he stole two cars. a warrant issued for 31-year-old mark macinnis, of west union. the fayette ounty sheriff's office says macinnis stole car from oelwein last week and drove it

allegedly stole a second one. the car was found in west union two das later. authorities went to macinnis registered address to arrest him, but he was not there. a burglar apologetic after being sentenced to up to ten years in prison for steali from a locaa vetetenss post. 52 year old todd losh pleading guilty to burglary, theft and criminal mischief charges. take a look at the surveillance video. you can see losh break into the cedar falls amvets post 49 building -- and try to crack open the atm with a pick ax... poli say he also broke into a locked office and tried to break into a safe.. vets at the post say he stole about 17 hundred dollars from them. a county attorney says losh was extremely emotional in court yeststday-- saying his own father was a veteran. but some vets not buying losh's apology. . to say that your dad was a vet doesn't really know

been one of at least two people killed during the raid today. 31 governors are now saying they want to close their borders to syrian refugees, including governor branstad. but as kwwl's brad hanson shows us, at least one iowa mayor is fighti back. with thh potential for the first snow this week -- holiday cheer is starting to spread. downtown cedar falls decking out the city. santa's elvfs are putting up decorations along main street, and setting up santa's workshop. the decorations come from sponsors, downtown merchants, and citywide businesses -- and the hard work is all done by volunteers "nothing is provided from the city, it's all donations, um, and all the help is volunteer work from citizens." santa's workshop is part of the holiday hoopla event and will open friday, november 27th...the day after thanksgiving.

with every hawkeye game, there is a kid captain. the kid captain program is in it's 7th year, it selects patients from the university of iowa children's hospital and allows them to share their stories we had the opportunity to talk with the kid captain for this weeks final home game -- beau atkinson, he has a re form of hemophilia. beau was diagnosed at just 6 months old he is now 13-years old and enjoys being active in his gym class and the good friends he surounds himself that if sosoething happens to me like if i end up on crutches or in a wheel chair, i know i have good friends t support me and help me out through that whole time." this week beau will join the hawkeyes on the field at the beginning of the gam his family will have this banner outside of the stadium at ther tailgate they are welcoming anyonn to sign the banner to support beau. coming up next... the cubbies continue to take home the hardware -- with yet
