thanks for watching "early now on today in iowa: tracking the wind and snow. storm track seven meteorologist eileen loan tells us what's on the way -- as the d-o-t tells us how the color blue could help plus -- changes at the pump -- could have many of you pumping your fist. it's been awhile since we've seen prices dip this low -- so how low are they this morning? and this has to be the most unusual story of the day. a grudge carried out at a gravesite. a man so upset -- he went after another man's headstone -- and his excuse is interesting... to say the least. i'm jerry gallagher... let's check on your weather now with storm track 7 meteorologist eileen loan. good morning. winter is headed our way... this is the last three years' of the first inch

viewing area... last year it occurred right about this time... and it may be tomorrow. a winter storm watch will go into effect tomorrow for the entire viewing area for the first snow of the season. today, we are dealing with wind, however... a wind advisory for gusts to 50 mph! current winds are 15 to 30 mph from the west, gusting to 40 mph... and it will stay windy today with lots of sunshine. no matter what the thermometer says, it will feel more like the 20s today with the strong winds. i'll have more on that snow in the forecast in a few minutes. as eileen's forecast gets us ready for the weather on the way... the d-o-t is already thinking winter. it has a true blue way to make fall.

across the state, more than 200 plows have new, blue and white lights -- making them easier to see. you're driving down the road and you get the snow circling around the back side of the plow, and cars just cant see it" d-o-t plows were involved in a number of crashes last winter. in one day -- 12 plows were hit across the state. strong winds force eastern iowans to clean up. winds gusts of 85 miles an hour hit the marengo area early wednesday morning. emergency management says one strong 20 second gust likely caused the damage. the wind blew the roof off the cub cadet store... and knocked down parts of the brooklyn elevator. "my boyfriend was coming home into marengo this morning and he saw all the trees down. his thought in his head was he hoped a tree didn't land on his car over there." no one was hurt... but a lot to clean up.

after toppling right through her roof during the night. oregon. a neighbor checked on the woman -- and saw that. turns out she wasn't seriously hurt -- and firefighters were able to get her out. two historic buildings collapse after overnight storms. this video is out of mississippi -- where too much water pooled on top of the roof. people are being told to avoid new details this morning in a story we first brought you last night at ten. a man is in the hospital after being shot in the chest. it happened just before ten near 8th and leavitt streets in waterloo. police tell us the man is expected to survive. no arrests have been made and police do not have a description waterloo police are also investigating an attempted armed robbery. it happened around nine forty last night at ray's supermarket on franklin street. police tell kwwl -- at least one shot was fired inside the store. the suspect was able to get away --

but police do not believe they took anything from the store. this morning -- another development as police investigate the paris attacks. authorities in belgium launch six raids -- connected to one of the paris suicide bombers. back in the u-s -- what to do about syrian refugees continues to be a big debate. today, the house will meet to talk about legislation. this week, president obama criticized republicans for wanting to keep syrian refugees out of the u-s -- after congress failed to come up with legislation to authorize military force in syria -- which he says he's been asking for. here's what one presidential candidate had to say about the president's comments. if you want to insult me, you encourage you mr president, come back and insult me to my face. about two- thousand syrian refugees have been allowed into the u-s in the last four years. new york's mayor says the city will not be intimidated by a new isis video. the video shows several scenes

it also includes pictures of terrorists wearing suicide belts. "to be quite frank with you there is nothing new about that our review of it it looks like it has been hastily produced it is a miss mash of previously released video." the mayor says people need to go about their business and live their lives. a 15-year-old boy faces charges this morning -- in separate murder cases. police in alabama say the teen shot and killed a man. he's also accused of killing two adults in their car in october and is suspected in a fourth homicide. "this 15 year old actually took these adults lives as if he was remorse." the name of the teen has not been released yet. the standoff between protestors and police continues overnight. this has been an issue in

minneapolis all week. protesters "occupied" the city's 4th police precinct for three days after an unarmed man was shot by an officer. police say the man was a suspect in an assault and interfered with paramedics trying to treat the victim. there was a scuffle, but some witnesses say the man was handcuffed when he was shot. police say some protesters have thrown rocks, bricks and bottles at officers. dozens of defense attorneys are expected to hold a news conference in texas today -- where a gunfight between rival biker gangs happened earlier this year. nine bikers were killed at the twin peaks restaurant in waco. 180 people were arrested that day. several bikers have filed civil rights lawsuits. once the face of a very popular ad campaign... this morning... he''ll be sentenced. jared fogle will be in court today. jay gray tells us what we can expect. "hi, i'm jared the subway guy." later this morning, the former subway pitchman .. and admitted child molester will learn his fate.. "jared fogle expects to go to

those people whose life he has effected." the 38-year-old father of two has pled guilty to possessing or distributing child pornography and traveling across state lines to engage in sex with minors. "fogle admitted that he repeatedly traveled from indiana to new york to engage in commercial sex acts with victims subway severed ties with fogle when the investigation was announced. since then he has agreed to pay a total of 1.4-million-dollars to his 14 victims, each getting 100,000-dollars. . and as part of a plea deal.. prosecutors capped their request for prison time at 12- and-a-half years - the government also wants fogle to be supervised after release for the rest of his life.. his attorneys have requested a 5-year sentence.. and say he will speak before the judge during today's hearing.. jay gray - nbc news -

as of last week, 11 victims had received their restitution. three others were expected to have arrangements in place by today. video now shows a former n-f-l player caught shoplifting in a store last year. joseph randle was a running back for the dallas cowboys when he was caught on tape at a dillard's store in a dallas suburb. he can be seen putting polo underwear in his bag. he was also caught in the cologne section taking a tester bottle. he later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft and was sentenced to six-months probation. the cowboys released him his month. this morning, a perfect way to salute the unbeaten hawkeyes. they're putting a teenager in the spotlight -- so he can share his story. beau atkinson is this week's kid captain for iowa's final home game of the year. the program selects patients from the university of iowa children's hospital and allows them to share their

stories beau is from central city and has a rare form of hemophilia. he was diagnosed at just 6 months old he's now 13 and enjoys being active at school and with his friends. "it just feels like that if something happens to me like if me out through that whole time." this week beau will join the hawkeyes on the field at the beginning of the game. his family will have this banner outside kinnick at ther tailgate -- so if you see it -- stop by and say hello. drivers can squeeze with ease. there's a slump at the pump. we saw this on our way into work this morning. gas prices dipping below two dollars a gallon. it's been awhile. that's very good news ahead of thanksgiving week. triple-a expects 300-thousand more people will hit the road for the holiday -- compared to last so. i think family is pretty important, really important.

it will be very windy today with gusts to 50 mph and then tomorrow we can look forward to the first snowfall of the season. that could cause some headaches on the road. right now... we have the wind. wind advisory covers most of the kwwl viewing area today with current winds 15-30 mph and gusting to 40... but they could gust to 50 for much of the day. stormtrack7 live weather network cameras will shake today but should end up showing lots of sunshine. temps have fallen into the mid 30s after being in the mid 40s much earlier today. we may rebound a few degrees, but there is colder air to the west, which is where the winds are coming from... and we are starting a

good 15 to 25 degrees colder than yesterday morning... wind chills are running in the teens and 20s across the state. they may not improve much today. we have the cold front tracking through the great lakes, but that is allowing all of these winds in the area, but then we have the next system to watch... that will take a track to our south, which is perfect for snow in our state... but snowfall amounts will depend on a lot of things... the exact track of the low and how fast it is going. how much moisture it has (it looks like plenty) and how much initial melting will go on. that looks like it could be a lot since the ground temp is still 50 degrees! however, if it snows fast, it

areas faster than it can melt. grassy areas will see it sticking first no matter how fast it falls. snow is the main threat for tomorrow, since we are not expecting ice or strong winds, but it is our first snow of the season, so a winter storm watch is in effect for the entire viewing area. we will likely have 1-3" of snow with many areas potentially seeing more. today will be the wind, though, with gusts to 50 mph... the winds die down tonight with lows dropping into the low to mid 20s. and the snow tracks in should have some sun for the it's still to come this morning: who gets the best bang for their buck -- when it comes to car insurance? someone who drives an s-u-v? a car? how about a truck?

it's beginning to look like the season is upon us. downtown cedar falls is getting into the spirit. santa's elves are putting up decorations along main street, and setting up his workshop. the macy's thanksgiving day parade is a week away, but some third graders got a sneak peak at what the rest of us will see on nbc's coverage of the event. tracie strahan tells us 500 students took a tour of the snoopy was all hugs and smiles as he showed off his new engineers from macys studio...but these kids came armed with questions...like how they get thru the lincoln tunnel?
