he is confident that the department will be able to close this case fairly quickly. bullet holes - in the door and ceiling tile and shattered bottles of champagne - - remnants of the exchange of fire between the store owner and a man trying to rob him at gun point. the two men exchange a number of shots - - before the suspect took off. the store is no stranger to crime. the store was broken into through the front window on saturday john missel "there has been a rash of ignorant people doing little bit last night, they were both ok. we will continue to bring you updates both here and on kwwl-dot- com. in a seperate gunfire report... a man is expected to recover after he's shot in the chest... we first told you about this last night -- it happened just before ten near eighth and leavitt streets in waterloo... police say the man is in the hospital -- and he's been relatively cooperative with their investigation... witnesses tell police they saw a car drive away from the scene. a cyclist receives multiple citations -- after a police officer in a squad car hits her with his car. it happened in waterloo early this morning in the area of west ninth and washington. officer robert duncan was on patrol when he hit 35-year-old jennifer banks. banks went to the hospital for minor injuries. banks received citations for riding a bicycle without a light and violating 1-way traffic. with the first snow of the season in our forecast you may have driving concerns...

helper...the highway helper. the program started in des moines but expanded to cedar rapids in iowa icty... kwwl's kristin rogers took a look at a highway helper today kristin what did you think? they're very impressive... they do a lot more than you would think from changing your tire to picking you up and taking you to a safe place highway helpers carry gas in case you run out, blankets if you are stranded in a cold vehicle and even have a large front bumper meant to push your vehicle out of oncoming traffic to keep the traffic flowing. one highway helper driver says he helped out an elderly couple earlier today... (cg: jordan lamb/ highway helper supervisor) "the car overheated and they were were stranded there and i ended up pushing them up the exit ramp and actually put them up."

i owe about $68,000. i owe $44,000 in student loans. my plan, the new college compact, says you should not have to borrow money to pay tuition if you go to a p plic college or university. and you ought to be able to refinance student debt. and i don't believe the federal government should be making a profit off of lending to young people who are borrowing to be able to get their education. we have got to make college affordable.

for mark macinnis -- he's accused of stealing two caas last week, one in oelwein, one in sumner. if you have information about either of these men -- call police. former subway pitchman jared fogle sentenced to 15 years in prison for child pornography charges. fogle walked in silently, but he openly sobbed in an indianapolis court room as he told the judge what he did. he was sentenced for possessing or distributing child pornography and traveling across state lines to engage in sex with minors. fogel's defense claims he traded in a dangerous food addiction for an addiction to child pornography. more mexican people are leaving the united states, than those coming here. this information coming from the pew research center... their study says from 2009 until 2014, there has actually been a net loss of 140 thousand mexican people... pew cites the mexican immigrants leaving the u-s are looking to reunify their families and they're doing so in
