helpers aer designed to aid people who are stranded in their vehicles on the highway..... meet the highway helper...a new friend to help you out on the road... "you know we have blankets and everything in case something we are expecting our first snow storm of the season air, aed, cpr." and the list goes on... "we have gas and we change tires, air up tires." jordan lamb drives a highway helper... he helped an elderly couple earlier today.... (cg: jordan lamb/ highway helper supervisor) "the car overheated and they were sitting on the side of the road and obviously the car can't run because it's overheated so they were stranded there and i ended up pushing them up the exit ramp." although they can't tow, the large bumper on the oncoming traffic to keep the roads flowing smoothly and everyone safe. continuing coverage -- an attempted robbery ends in an exchange and the robber . the shooting happened just before 10 last night at ray's supermarket in waterloo. police are still looking for the man who took off after the attempted robbery. kwwl's jessica hartman has been working to bring us the facts. jessica? i met with waterloo police chief dan trelka today - - he tells me investigators have several leads and he is confident that the department will be able to close this case fairly quickly. waterloo police responding to shots fired in side a local supermarket. according to the assistant manager- - it was the owner who fired his personal hand gun at a number of shots - - before the suspect fled the scene. thanks jessica, we will continue to bring you updates both here and on kwwl-dot-com. a man is in the hospital after being shot in the chest. it happened just before ten near 8th and leavitt streets in waterloo. police tell us the man is expected to survive -- and say he's been relatively cooperative with them as they investigate. witnesses saw a car driving away from the scene but don't have a solid description of the car or suspects. a woman riding a bike receives multiple citations after she is hit by a police officer. the accident took place in the area of west ninth and washington in waterloo. the woman was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. she also received citations for riding a bike without a light and violating one-way traffic. the officer is not currently facing any charges. iowa state officials are increasing security for the upcoming
