the terror threat level here couldn't be higher. 22 raids overnight in this city. but the isis militant, the man they're looking for is still free. >> the heart of brussels normally packed with tourists and commuters now filled with armed police and troops. warning that an attack might be imminent, they moved in overnight to half a dozen districts. >> police here have been told to prepare for a terror operation. this city is still on high alert. there were 22 raids in all, 16 people arrested. their main target was the belgian isis militant abdelslam. they didn't get him. they fear he might have an explosive suicide belt, the man who drove him here said he'd been wearing a thick jacket. his brother went on belgian tv to say he believed he had pulled out of the paris attacks at the

drill. the nypd does a similar exercise for the media every year, but after the attacks in paris, this time there was a new twist. the shooter had a suicide vest. the drill comes just days before the macy's thanksgiving day parade with an expected crowd of over 3.5 million. >> in new york city we are at this time very well prepared and continually improving that preparedness, but the idea is to get in and minimize the greatest degree possible the casualties. >> reporter: across the country many are claiming on edge. there may be a rash of isis attacks on sunday. including at a wrestling event at the arena in atlanta. the group later denied releasing any information about a plot and the fbi said there was no credible threat. fear in the sky as well as two international flights grounded in canada over the weekend. explosives were not found on

said there's no specific credible threat. on the other hand, officials in paris likely would have said the same thing the day before those attacks. how confident are you in assuring the american public that there isn't a threat that is imminent? >> well, i can assure you that we don't have a specific threat stream or specific evidence in front of us, but there is always as we've said to people for years, the threat of some actor, some person, someone who slipped through. that's the world we're living in today and we understand that. ever since 9/11, many experts across the united states without regard to political party or to elections have consistently said to us it's probably not a question of if, it's a question of when. >> let's talk -- >> so we have every single effort being made by homeland

interpol, by intelligence communities exchangeing information and people are working hard at this and we have averted many different plots against the united states. >> let's talk about this strategy against isis. in recent days isis has managed to pull off attacks in paris, beirut and brought down a russian jet liner. by definition doesn't that show that u.s. policy is not working, that there needs to be a better strategy? >> what it shows is that isil has not yet been defeated and we understand that. regrettably for four years this war in syria has been going on and people have been traveling from all over the world to the amazement of many people, but they have been traveling even from the united states to go fight in syria. so some people have returned to their homelands and they have been taught the trade craft of terror reglet my so no.

we've only had the coalition against dash for one year now. we put that coalition together a year ago when daesh started to move through the region and the fact is during that period of time, about -- let me just finish, about 25% of their territory, that they controlled has been taken away from them. leadership has been eliminated from the battlefield. whole towns and communities have been eliminated. the answer is no, it has to be picked up, the pace has to be picked up and more needs to be done and everybody understands that. >> you know, they -- the picked up territory in other countries, excuse me. they've expanded into other countries during this time that we've been fighting them. the president talks about his critics popping off and saying they have a better idea but he's getting criticism from former members of his administration. the former cia director and

defense secretary. a top terrorist official saying it's not sufficient, it's not enough and it's not happening fast enough. >> well, let me just say a word, look, i just said to you i don't think anybody believes it's happening fast enough and we are escalating our steps. the president even in the last weeks before paris took place made major decisions to put additional people on the ground, special forces and took additional steps some of which i can't talk about on the line here, but he has already been taking additional steps. now, yes, isil has brought in people in other countries, it hasn't expanded by moving to those other countries, it has taken terrorists who already exist in those other countries and they have pledged loyalty to daesh.

that's different and we know there are people who are terrorists in libya, in yemen, afghanistan and other places. what daesh has succeeded in doing is attracted them because of what they've been doing on the ground and in syria and iraq and we have been focused on attacking them in syria and iraq and i am convinced that will increase even more so in the days ahead. >> and very -- >> as i said to you, a year ago there was no coalition against daesh. >> in a word, sir, is isis gaining strength? >> i believe isis is going to be defeated. isis is not 10 feet tall. i have absolute confidence that as we increase what we are doing today as there is more focus, i'm just in abu dabai now.

there is a very clear focus by everybody. there is a united front and i am absolutely convinced that daesh will be defeated and there will be increased steps taken in order to do so and what we need to do is not succumb to fear. people need to not panic. there is a strategy in place growing by the day and i have no doubt whatsoever that with the help of all the nations that are united against daesh they are going to be defeated and we'll do everything in our power to hasten that journey. >> secretary of state john kerry, thank you for your time sir this morning. we appreciate it. >> thank you. >> and we should mention when secretary kerry says daesh. same as isis, same as isil. >> another term for the same thing. >> those paris attacks are

game between the rams and the ravens. the teams locked in a tie when the rams quarterback gets sacked. you can see his head hitting hard against the turf. he grabbed his head immediately before struggling to get up. teammate garrett reynolds even tries to help him. two plays later he fumbles the ball before being sacked again. he gets up and once again stays in the game. many watching were shocked that no team coach or doctor came out to check on keenum. some on twitter saying a woozy keenun is picked up. why do we have concussion protocol then? the ravens beat the rams on the last second field goal. after the game, keenum was diagnosed with a concussion. it comes as the nfl set new

"today" on nbc. 8:45 now. back with our annual tradition thanks and giving where we highlight the remarkable work and this morning marlo thomas opens up about how her father danny thomas started it all. >> here we go. >> my father founding st. jude's children's research hospital is a very personal story. he was a child of immigrant lebanese people. they had no money, and they grew

up in a neighborhood where nobody went to the doctor. children in the neighborhood died of -- of appendicitis and influenza, and i think he care ed that all through his life. >> he was a struggling young comedian without any money and had $10 in his pocket and his first baby was about to be born, me. and he -- he needed $50 to get me and my mother out of the hospital, and he went to mass that sunday, and the sermon was about st. jude. patron of the hopeless cases and he thought who could be more hopeful than me, so he took sench his $10 out of his wallet and put it in the basket and a little prayer we made was dear st. jude, i need ten times this to get my family out of the hospital. if you will help me and give me a sign i'm going in the right direction, some day i'll be able to do a shrine and next day he got a phone call to play a singing toothbrush on the radio, and the pay was $75. that was his sign. and then something else happened

that really changed things for him. he read in the paper about an african-american 8-year-old boy who was hit by a car in mississippi and he died because no emergency room in mississippi would take him. my father started to form the thought that he could build a hospital so that every child of every race and religion would have an equal chance at first class care. he put it in memphis which is the hub of the south, st. jude became the first fully integrated hospital in the south. you he wanted to create a place where no family would have to pay for travel, or food or housing or treatment. my mother's idea was to build a hospital to help children with hopeless diseases, but this wonderful progressive doctor said to him if you really want to help children, don't just build a hospital, danny, build a research center and a treatment center under one roof. >> i never thought i would live to see st. jude hospital built.

100,000 square feet, and today it's 3 million square feet. my father told my sister and power and me that after he was gone st. jude would not be our burden to carry and i think we were relieved because it looked like a lot of look. three months after my daughter died i went to st. jude and i was emotional going out and i went inside, a party going on and all these little kids were running around and having a wonderful time and i said whose bird day is it? it's not a birthday party. it's an off chemo party. you don't need chemo anymore >> and i just started to cry. i've never seen anything like this. all these children deriving strength from one child's turn for the better and their parent standing by with tears in their eye because they felt that this child did and maybe their child would, too. it was a turn point for me and i knew right then that i would be involved. >> marlo thomas is with us now. good morning. >> good morning.

>> well, it's amazing, that's a wonderful story about how we started, but just this past wednesday we treated the first child ever with our proton beam with the smallest proton ever created on the planet at st. jude. means we can target cancer and not kill any of the good healthy tissue around it, and the other great thing is our genome project. every child that comes to st. jude has its genome mapped so we can treat that cancer and defeat that cancer and, therefore, any child who gets that cansler also have that same treatment. this is what's happening now. very exciting. you've been there. >> known each other for a long time. there's always something you say to people. come see it. >> yes. >> and it's amazing when you go through there how your view changes. >> you know, i was thinking as i watched this, in 1962 when my father opened the hospital, he would walk through those walls and almost every child would

and a half to two time the length of the turkey and crumble it up until you get a nice foil rope, kind of like this. great for the kids and. it in your roasting pan and pop it around like this and make a little coil and then take your turkey, put it riht on top. and there you have it, voila, better than a regular rack. >> racks are great, but oftentimes you have a rack that doesn't fit in a certain roasting pan, mae you have a bigger turk they year. >> got it.t. >> and the next trick we got is basting. >> basting, like a self-basting turkey. a large piece of cheese cloth here. we'll dip it in some water and i'm wearing gloves now so that we keep it nice and clean. >> okay. >> and then you're going to stick this right into some melted butter that i've let cool and seasoned with citrus zest and fruit juice and it's going to be really nice and it's not only going to baste the turkey but give it lots of flavor and then you just pick it up, just
