travelers, but there aren't any weather hazards out there right now. highways and airports are not showing any probems today. and it should stay the same tomorrow, although we will have an increase in low clouds, some drizzle and maybe some rain showers with rain likely on thursday. as a cold front tracks into the area, snow will mix in, especially to our western and northern counties by tomorrow evening, with the whole thing tracking out by sunrise friday. we will likely see some locally heavy rainfall out of this system with some getting a couple of inches of rain. snow will depend on when that mixes with snow... but today we will have the light rain beginning to track in with highs in the 40s to low 50s. we have a wet thanksgiving and a cool black friday to look forward to. i'll have that forecast for you in a few

breaking news overnight: chicago police say they're ready for mass demonstrations -- and that's exactly what happened. people blocked a freeway and traffic came to a standstill. the crowd grew as the night went on. they're upset after a video shows a white police officer shooting and killing a black teenager. so far -- nothing serious has been reported beyond the demonstration you see right here. the teen was shot 16 times. police say he had a knife. you're looking at dash cam video of what happened right up until the shooting. authorities say the officer continued to shoot the teen -- even when he was on the ground -- after being shot. that officer has now been charged with first-degree murder. . the officer in this case took a young man's life and he's going to have to account for his actions.

worked for police in a limited role. the police superintendent now says he's no longer being paid by the department. a state trooper shot, a school bus rammed and two men arrested. it all happened in pennsylvania yesterday. it started when state troopers pulled over a car for an expired registration. the driver stopped, but then took off again. authorities chased the driver and shots were fired. one trooper was injured in the shootout. the suspect then rammed a squad car and later a school bus. a fire then started on the bus... but thankfully -- no students were on it at the time arrested. more breaking news overnight: an n-f-l player is in critical condition this morning after st. louis rams wide receiver stedman bailey -- who you see in this video -- suffered a head wound. an n-f-l-dot-com reporter says the wound is not considered to be life threatening.

he was shot in miami. stedman played college football at west virginia. he is serving a suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. an eastern iowa man faces charges after police say he followed a woman -- and then hit her car with a crowbar. it's been called a case of road rage. joshua dale was arrested after the victim says he hit her car repeatedly in the lowes parking lot in waterloo. tali stevens was in the car with her 10-year-old daughter. she just picked her up from school at orange elementary she says dale followed her from the school to the store. "he took some large object, i wanna say a crowbar, out of his trunk and i heard loud booms on the hood of my car, and he was beating on my car." he's now been charged with criminal mischief. more cars. more crashes. insurance companies are giving everyone a heads up before they hit the road for thanksgiving today. they say crashes go up 25 percent the day before thanksgiving. they also say the greatest risk for

out of state crashes happens on sunday of the holiday week. before he starts his thanksgiving holiday, the president has a meeting with his national security team today. they'll talk about homeland security over the holidays. after that, the first family plans to take part in a community service project -- which they do each year the day before thanksgiving. isis is the focus of a meeting between president obama and the french president -- who's been in washington. their meeting comes after the attacks in paris. both resisted calls to send ground troops to syria. "even as we're vigilant we cannot and we will not succumb terrorists win. we cannot give them the victory of changing how we go about living our lives." the french president will now meet with the german chancellor today, and on thursday, he heads

president vladimir putin. this morning, we're waiting to see the latest earnings report from deere. the company will release its fourth quarter results. the wall street journal is reporting this could be the worst year in sales for the entire farming equipment industry since 2009. as soon as we get the deere report this morning -- we'll let you know. several deputies are now on desk duty after an inmate dies. a 50-year-old man died after an incident with deputies in colorado. investigators won't say much about what happened -- only that it's all on video. the man had been arrested for disturbing six deputies are now on restricted duty. they're not allowed to have contact with inmates. the man's family hired a civil rights to fairly investigate themselves. we just cant. we need someone independent. denver's district attorney will review the evidence and decide if criminal charges should be filed. we're learning new details about a shooting at the coral ridge mall.

authorities say alexander kozak shot and killed andrea farrington at the mall in june. she worked at the iowa children's museum inside the mall. new court documents show kozak told police farrington broke off their relationship. police say he then snapped -- went back to his home to grab a gun and returned to shoot farrington in the back april 12th. an eastern iowa city weighs whether to keep guns out of city buildings -- even for those with concealed carry permits. it comes after library board members in north liberty noticed there was not a weapon free zone policy for their building -- so they brought it to the city council's attention. the mayor says if they make one city building weapon free, they might as well do it for all of them. but many people disagree with "i've gotten some really discusting voicemails and i've gotten some threatening emails, yeah it's not pretty." the mayor says it wouldn't be a city law - but instead a

the iowa hawkeyes find themselves in new territory. the football team is now ranked fourth in the college football playoff poll. that's where they'll want to be when the season ends -- because the top four make the playoffs... but the hawks still have two games left. they play at nebraska on friday before the big 10 championship game on saturday, december fifth. iowa joins clemson, alabama and oklahoma in the top four of this week's college football playoff ranking. this is picture perfect for iowa fans. the 11-and-oh hawkeyes are on a regional cover of sports illustrated this week. many fans are quick to point out the so-called s-i cover jinx. the last time iowa was on the cover was in 2009. the hawks lost their next game against northwestern after ricky stanzi got hurt. a special day of thanks brings hopes to the newest preemies and their parents. david wade takes us inside a hospital where kids come back to thank their doctors and nurses who helped

be socked in all day, plus have some areas of fog, but then the rain tracks in, especially as the front slows down tomorrow morning. and we will eventually see the rain change to snow, but it looks like this is mainly a rrn event in ourur viewinn area with the potential for some heavy rainfall...mainly 1 to 2 inches in our viewing area. snowfall amounty will be mainly trace to 2" and will depend on when it channes from rain o all snow. today will be light rain tracking in wh temps climbing a few degrees with south winds. the winds begin to turn direction tonight as that front tracks closer to the viewing area, but temps drop only into the mid 30s to mid 40s with the rain continuing. rain may be heavy at times tomorrrw and the wiids will turn to the north. this will keep temps steady or falling through the afternoon and that is when we will wath for the mix with snow from the northwest to the southeast. high pressure will dry us out

in a turkey fryer, do it outssde only and away from your home... not in your garage... and not on your porch. toy safety is also at the top of the list for many families as they begin to shop for the holidays. a new survey looks at 200 toys -- and whether they're dangerous. a big takeaway is this -- not as many toxic toys were found. "as a mom i understand that sold in the united states must comply with very strict u.s. product safety requirements which is something that pirg themselves acknowledge." only one toy tested - an action figure - showed lead levels higher than new stricter federal limits on metal allowed in toys.. many iowans are not only craving turkey this week. they're also thinking about deer. hunters from all over the midwest, including iowans....head totowisconsin thii week ffr the gun deerr season. it's off to a pretty good start. so far...the wisconsin dnr says about thirty thousand more deer

"the deer are in their reeding tradition that it's a gun hunt this time of year." a change this year -- all hunters must register thier kills onliie or byby phone... eliminating the traditional pit stop -- leaving more time to hunt in the field. in iowa, the dnr says hunters are bagging more bucks than in prvevious years... iowa hunters reported harvesting more than 27 thousand deer so far in the 2015 season. that's more than in 2013 and 2014 in the same time period. it's touu to top a championship season -- but one n- b-a team is off to a record start. the golden state warriors won a record 16th game in a row to begin he ason. and it wasn't close. they were up by as many as 41 in the fourth quarter. they're now 16 and oh. on the way this morning -- your pet might be thankful to see a big holiday feast n the table... but that doesn't mean they should get any leftovers. on thanksgiving -- six things stand
