worse. cedar falls police arrested nicholas kollash on arson charges tied to that fire that started in the garage. the fire happened just before 6 this morning in the 600 - block of iowa street in cedar falls. the fire quickly spread to three cars and a near by garage- destroying both the cars and garage before firefighters were able to put it out. however it is what was inside one of the cars that the owners say

kwwl's jessica hartman is live in the newsroom. for one local band- - this mornings fire destroyed part of their livelihood. the flames broke out - -a few hours after the evan stock band returned home from a performance. the fire spread from the garage to the nearby cars - - one of which was packed full of instruments and band equipment. band leader evan stock says this is a thanksgiving he won't forget. and whaa i have. unfortunately i lost a lot of it today." "two of the guitars, i had in the van at the time were two of the most the equipment was reduced to a pile of melted medal and wires. the band is booked for several performances this weekend and said they do not plan to cancel. we've got you covered live in the newsroom...jessica hartman kwwl news. cedar falls police tell us the arson was in response to an altercation earlier that

morning. waterloo police investigate an armed robbery -- reported at the san marnan i-wireless store in waterloo last night. officers arrived before eight o- clock -- after the robber threatened the clerk with knife and left with money. this is the second armed robbery at the store since september. a man allegedly shoots another in both of his legs -- and both guys face charges.... iowa city police say sergio martinez showed up to the hospital with gun shot wounds to both his legs on november first-- telling police he didn't know who shot him... officers determined jonathan aragon salas junior actually shot him while the two were driving -- and both men tried to cover it up. araon salas is charged with reckless use of a fire arm while martinez was charged with filing a false report - both were jailed last night. president obama rememnds us all to count our blessings in his annual thanksgiving address... thanksgiving is a day for food but it's also a day to count our us have something to be grateful

the president also reflected on america's history of welcoming people to our country and used his message to talk about keeping up that welcoming spirit when we consider the refugee crisis in the middle east. united states troops in the middle east are getting a taste of thanksgviing... these service members in qatar are getting a traditional turkey dinner... the department of defense says this year they've shipped 52 thousand pounds of turkey to bases all over the world so the troops could celebrate. over 25-thousand pounds of beef, 17- thousand pounds of ham, 7-hundred gallons of eggnog and over 3- thousand pounds of marshmallows were shipped as well. back in eastern iowa -- hundreds showed up for the annual donna ginter dinner in dubuque.... the dinner is now in it's 54th year, and it's third since donna died. they served more than two thousand meals today, including nearly eighteen hundred delivered meals.

turkey was cooked along side 25 hundred pieces of pie. and santa also made an appearance today. and working to burn off all those calories -- around 15 hundred people took part in the inagural turkey trot in cedar rapids. the trot raised funds and awareness for heart disease... the number one cause of death in american adults. though some people would never consider waking up early to run was a good time. (eric white/turkey trotter) "even n th the weather and everything, you know, everyone was having a good time, that. you know, people really get a lot out of stuff like this." a lot of people brought their families out to the run so they could spend their holiday together. in continuing coverage... as the hawkeyes approach the final game of their regular season tomorrow, we thought it would only be appropriate to take a look back on this thanksgiving day at a football season, hawkeye fans are sure to be thankful for. kwwl's kristin rogers is live in the studio to break down this magical season.

it all started with a win, and then another and another, with a perfect season through eleven games, we have all been able to witness one of the best hawkeye football if hawkeye fans don't remember last season's bowl game in jacksonville it's probably because they were trying to forget..... they gave tennessee their first bowl game win since 2008... it was time for change, most noticably at quarterback jake rudock's role as the starter came to an end and a new leader emerged, cj beathard. the hawkeye clinched their second victory of the season bringing the cy-hawk trophy to iowa city fans noticing what they call the new kirk, meaning a more aggressive kirk.... but it was this game winning kick against pittsburgh that brought a lot of hawkeye spirits to life, the hawks kicked off big ten play with a victory over powerhouse wisconsin in always tough madison and people started to believe... now they look for revenge on nebraska to wrap up their picture perfect season make no mistake, hawkeye fans believe, and their spirits have been revived,

the hours are ticking away towards kickoff in lincoln as they hawkeyes will take on the huskers in hopes of completing this magical season 12-0... amanda, back to you... hawkeye fans are reveling in this historic season -- including a man who has been with the hawkeyes through good times and in bad. joey donia puts a face to the man whose voice you probably football game. i've missed a few. he lives sports, does a iowa basketball and iowa athletics. you'll find veteran sportscaster bob brooks. you had the lock down at the end. uh yeah. first of all it was his voice and i remember in 1981 i got here in june my first week of work i was living in the old carousel hotel on and there was bob brooks with that distinctive voice. it's been special, very special. that voice has been broadcasting hawkeye football for nearly 70 years. i got to see nile kinnick play in every home game in 39. he won

twitter or 24 hour sports. and now the huge rose bowls to two decades without a winning record bob brooks is a link to it all. still hacking away at it but it's been a fun ride. it's part of him and really it keeps him going, there's no doubt about it. like father, like son bob's only son rob is the sideline reporter for the hawkeye radio broadcast. really was coming to the games really since i was one year old. bob will turn 89 next month and has no plans to stop broadcasting. i enjoy what i do so much it's not easy now, but it is still fun. and after all the years, no one is enjoying this season more than brooks. it

eastern iowa is represented tparade in new york city. kwwl's macleod hagagman catches up with two independence dancers -- who performed right (nats.. christmas songs) madison arend and alyssa jensen of independence perform gingerbread sparkle both girls say all their harr work paid off. "they sent us a video of the dance to learn a little bit ahead of tim. it's pretty fast and jazzy. it's to a christmas few weeks now, and it's just been a lot of fun." madison and alyssa say it was a true honor to perform $& "just being able to have the experience to be in the parade with friends..."
