jerry has the day off. let's check onyour weathenow winter w wather advisoo continues in the area this morning for our northern counties from rundy center though elkader including waterloo. traffic may be slow going in some areas... others just wet this morning. snowplows are out and they have theer cameras going. roads in the northern two to three tiers of counties are getting snow and ice covered with sllet, freezing rain and snow reports this morning, along with the rain to the south. temps are right around freezing in the north with warmer temps to the south

investigators -- but says dear's motives aren't entirely clear. police say dear surrendered at the end of a six-hour standoff on friday, after shooting and killing three people and wounding nine others at a planned parenthood clinic in colorado springs. the mayor says, unless there's somom sort of thrrat beforehand, these types of shootings are ugh to prevent6 "it's very dificult for law enforcement to deal with individuals llke this who don't commit erious crimes and get themselves on the radar that way." dear had spotty record with the law during his assault in 97 but didn't press charges. in 2002 counts of being a peeping tom were dismissed. in 2003, dear wentntto a bench trial on more questions, in the aftermath of friday's attack. i'm andrew spencer, reporting.

more about the victims. the 57-year-old is currently being held without bond. the first of six baltimore police officers goes to trial in the death of freddie gray. gray died in april, a week afteq sustaining injuries ile in the bacc of a police van. his death sparked riots in the city. charges include involuntary manslaughter and second degree assault. all six officers will be tried separately an online threat prompp the university of chicago to cancel classes today. school officials say the university was informed by the f-b-i that someone posted an online threat of gun campus. they said there will be increased police and security presence in the area as well as other law enforcement agencies... "i mean, i was surprised. but just thought 'oh, well. i guess i'll have tooancel office e ours and whatever else i had planned." the f-b-i is continuing to investigatthe source and

motive behind the threat. a bus driver is facing charges after dozens of students are injure in a crash. they were headed back to collegegs in virginia after tte thanksgiving break. the driver has been charged with reckless driving. in total, 34 of the 50 students on board were hurt. 1 is in critical condition... "we decided to call this a mass all the area hospitals to disperse the patients evenly." students were taken to six area hospspals. the scene has since been cleared. police clashed with climate change protesterr in paris. this came ahead of the international climate conference there. protesters throwing things at police... $& officers responded byspraying tear gas and arging the demootrators. more than 1- hundred and 70 people were arrested and held

for questiong. mass gatherings were banned following the terror attacks in pais.. presiient obama arrived in paris late last night, then visited the theater that was the scene of the deadliest of the recent terrorist attacks. the president was joined by the french president and paris mayor. the three placed flooers at the memorial for the 89 people killed in the concert hall massacre. a police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty over the weekend. police in pennsylvania were sponding to a domestic violence call when the confrontation with the shooter happened. police say the suspect left the scene after shooting at officers. he was arrested early sunday morning. the officer was a 25 year veteran of the police department. developing overnight... two officers are injured in an officer-involve shooting overnight. officers were taking a man into custody when he pulled out a gun. the suspect was then killed after an exchange of gunfire. five were taken into custody. it's unclear if they face any harges. policecehave filed charges against a 25-year-old father ... after the man's daughter shot and killed

herself. it happened over the weeken in atlanta. police say the man was at home with other children when the six-year- old found the gun and accidentally fired it. the father has been charged with reckless conduct and inoluntary manslaughter. an athletic ffility collapsed at eastern michigan university. the school says two high school soccer teams were holding practice when the dome's fabric 3plit. a spectator inside said he heard a crash h efore the builling began to collapse. within minutes... the building had completely deflated. people inside rushed to the doors... some narrowly escaping... "i"ibarely made ii out. there were light fixtures crashing down on me. and some players from the other team were sprinting to get out." no one was hurt thanks to quick thinking by police. the university is now des moines police are looking into a shooting that left one person dead -- and another injured. it happened in the city's popular court avenue district around one o-clock this morning.

police say 21-year old edmanuel perez is dead and 23-year- old andrew hurley-boyd was taken to the hospital. police have not arrested anyone in connection to thh crime. authoritiessconfirm this is the 17th homicide in des moines this year. a handcuffed woman managed to steal the police s- u-v she was being held in -- and then he took it for a joyride. officers arrested a woman after they say she tried to cash a stolen checkt a bank. she was placcd in the back of the police s-u-v -- but somehow got into thh front and drove away -- causing a three-car wreck. two people were taken to the hospital with injuries. a lawyer for the man accused of scaling the whiie house fence on thanksgiving says his client was "trying to deliver a message." court documents say the man left a suicide note, but the lawyer says that could not be "further from the truth." the man ii expected to ppear in federal court today following a psychiatric exam. a basketball star has spoken -- or written -- about his future los angeles laers star kobe bryant says he will retire at

weather advisory ii posted for the north and western part of the viewing area today and tomorrow for the areas expecting the worst of the system. temperatures are hovering right at freezing there with a bit warmer temps to the south of highway 20... sleet, snow and freezing rain are starting to coat some of the roads north of 20 this morning. stormtrack7 live weather network cameras will show the slick roads in the north and mostly wet roads to the south. it has actually warmed a couple of degrees in washington this morning while staying right around 32 in the north. it is cooler to the west where they will see mainly snow out of this
