a bond hearing is set today for the chicago police officer charged with murder in the shooting death of a teenager. dashcam video shows the teen being shot 16 times- some fired after the 17-year-old fell to the ground. the release of that video last week sparked protests in response the october 2014 shooting. the officer's lawyer says the officer opened fire because he feared for his life and those of other police officers when he saw the teen had a knife. chicago will expand the use of body cameras on police officers. the city plans to buy 14-hundred body cameras. they'll spend two-point-two million dollars on the program - half the money will come from the city and the other half will come from a grant, from the u-s department of justice. world leaders, including president obama, are in the french capital, attending a climate change conference today. nbc's kelly o'donnell reports is underway but there is much going on here than the discussion of just the big issue of how to deal with climate change. that's what brought about 150 world leaders here to

over the weekend. proceeds from the race went to a charity that raises money for children with leukemia. runners got into the christmas spirit with their costumes. most dressed as santa, but a gingerbread man and a gorilla were also spotted in the crowd. santa claus took a break from the frigid north pole... to catch some waves off cocoa beach, florida. a professional surfer dressed as santa cruised on a jet ski. then saint nick came ashore. the organization "surfing santas" put the event together. they say it's a big hit with families... smoking a cigarette. according to police -- hit lit up a cigarette after the waitreess asked him not to smoke inside. investigators say that's when he pulled out a gun and shot her... "i'm furious for someone to take her life over a cigarette. of all the things...(crying)." the suspect is in jail on two-million dollars bond. a lawyer for the man accused of climbing the white house fence on thanksgiving says his client was "trying to deliver a message." the man was draped in an american flag when he jumped over a white house fence.. he's due in court later today. police say a suspected burglar died after getting stuck in the chimney of a home he was trying to break into.... a homeowner in california heard the man after lighting a fire in the fireplace. firefighters used jackhammers to break open the brick chimney -- but when they got to the man it was too late. . a handcuffed woman steals the police s-u-v she's being held in and takes it for a joyride. officers arrested the 27-year-old

to cash a stolen check. she was placed in the back of the police s-u-v -- but somehow got into the front and drove away -- causing a three-car wreck. two people were taken to the hospital with inuries. icy roads are to blame after a tractor trailer slams into a restaurant. this happened in texas. police say a person was driving a ford pick-up truck when they lost control and hit a semi-truck. the driver of the semi-truck then lost control and crashed into an outback steakhouse. police say at least six cars in the steakhouse parking lot were damaged and two passengers inside the tractor trailer were hurt. no one inside the restaurant was injured. two high school teams are practicing in a dome when it collapses. the fabric at the eastern michigan university facility split....deflating the 80-thousand square-foot structure. people inside rushed to the collapsing dome "i barely made it out. there were light fixtures crashing down on me. and some players from the other team were sprinting to get out."
