mayor crews is technically no longer in the race -- he dropped out shortly after the runoff was announced. however he is still on the ballot -- voters can still vote for him. the other candidate, jim brown has never run for mayor before. there's also a third candidate -- a write in, whos been making a push for votes this past month. kwwls olivia mancino is following this election -- she joins us live to explain there's some pretty unique circumstances to this race that third candidate, dave halterman, was on the ballot in the initial election -- he says once he learned mayor crews was dropping out, he decided to launch a write-in campaign for the run-off i sat down with halterman and candidate jim brown today to in less than 24 hours...the city of cedar falls will have a new face in the mayor's seat. after more than thirty although crews garnered enough votes in the initial election to be eligible for the runoff, he announced his resignation shortly after. mayor tim hurley. kwwl's nikki newbrough sat down with both candidates today and has more. all the billboards. flyers. and endless hours of campigning have come down to this. "exercise your voice to let the hurley having one extra month to get people out to vote. a vote that hurley believes hinges on two things....voter turnout and where those votes from the other candidate land. done deal one or the other because it isn't. i think this will be a very close race and turnout in all five wards." hurley says he wants voters to remember his experience. he's the only candidate to have been in this office before. "experience with accomplishment, and i think anyone who walks up and down the river or up and down our them, positive things that happened." while hart says he has

recent planned parenthood shooting in colorado - calling the shooter a deranged murderer -- saying he is pro life. cruz also touching on the hot topic of syrian refugees. "they outta be re-settled in the middle east in majority muslim countries and we should not be bringing in individuals we don't know if they're terrorist." cruz says he is encouraged by the many governors saying no to syrain refugees...including govenor branstad who said he does not want syrian refugees coming to iowa. police are investigating a fire to one of their own vehicles. fire crews in fort dodge found the mobile speed camera on fire over the weekend. the inside of the car was destroyed and now needs to be replaced. police chief keving doty says traffic. kevin doty, fort dodge police chief:15 "we still have people that ask people that do not care for them, but it's real easy to avoid getting a citation from

speed car, it's slow down." the fort dodge police department does own a second unit which is still in service. aside from promoting safety -- the units are budgeted to bring in 100-thousand dollars a year. two people are killed following a crash involving four vehicles. it happened in the 31-hundred block of highway 27 in lee county. the iowa state patrol says a driver was heading southbound in the northbound lane when they struck a pickup head-on. another pickup and a large truck then followed -- striking the other two vehicles. 55-year-old clinton meeker and 49-year-old diana delacruz were both killed in the crash. a third person was also injured and taken to the hospital. a 17-year-old is in critical condition after a hunting rifle impales into his neck. authorities say daniel gibbs was hunting with a friend in the 11-

road in fayette county at the time of the incident. they say he tripped over a log and the barrel went into his neck -- but did not discharge. he was airlifted to the university of iowa hospital -- where he remains in critical condition. deere and company announces more than 200 employees will be let go from one of their plants. the john deere seeding and cylinder plant in moline, illinois informing employees today. the company says the cuts are due to market demand for products made at the location. the layoffs are effective february 15th. after more than 100-years...alliant energy plans to shut down one of its power plants in iowa. the plant in dubuque will be closed in june of 20-17. according the our coverage partners the t-h media -- alliant planned to close the facility for quite some time. it only runs once in a while service. the thirteen people who currently work there will be

the chicago police officer charged in the shooting death of a 17-year-old is now out of jail. officer jason van dyke posting his one-point-five- million dollar bail. we do want to warn you -- some viewers might find the video to be disturbing. this video was released last week apparently showing van dyke shoot laquan mcdonald 16 times during an incident last year. it was later found out mcdonald had p-c-p in his system and was allegedly breaking into cars. the original police report indicated he was charging at officers -- however that doesn't seem to be the case in the video. van dyke's next hearing is set a college student who jumped the white house fence on thanksgiving is released from police custody. joseph caputo pleading not
