asked mccarthy to step down from his postion saying the trust and the leadership of the department has been shaken and eroded. and now is the time for fresh eyes to confront chanllenges the city is facing. the police superintendent have been facing a lot of criticism over the handling of the laquan mcdonald case-- with many citing the 13 months it took to charge the officer involved and others questioning mccarthy's leadership and credibility. and now-- the former officer charged with killing a teenager in chicago is out of jail, after posting bail. andrew spencer reports protests have continued, as the mayor former chicago police officer jason van dyke walked out of jail monday night, past the reporters waiting outside. van dyke made bail... ...hours after a judge set his bond at one- and-a-half-million dollars. van dyke faces a

charge in the killing of laquan mcdonald 16 times. since the dash cam video demonstrations have remained mostly peaceful, as leaders urged people to stand together. "use your voice and shout it out: it's all about unity." "it's all about unity." chicago mayor rahm emanuel is now calling for the creation of a task force on police accountability. his office says it will review the kinds of oversight police officers get and how the city trains them. the move comes as emanuel finds himself amid a protesters question why the video was kept from the public for more than a year, and why murder charge only came after a judge ordered the video released. many protesters have i'm andrew spencer,

van dyke is due back in court december 18th. new at noon: police are investigating the deaths of two people in a des moines home as homicides. it happened monday afternoon. police were called to the house to investigate a possible shooting. a man and a woman were seen leaving the house. when police went in --they found the bodies of a man and a woman. two small children were also in the home.. police removed them and they are o-k. police have not released how the two were killed and no arrests have been reported. university of iowa police are investigating after a racist comment is found on a bathroom door. police only describing it as "a racial slur." in a statement, university of iowa president bruce harreld said quote "this act is offensive to our community and will not be tolerated." around this time last year, a university art teacher put up a piece on the pentacrest. it resembled a k- k-k member. many students were hurt by the display...leading former university president sally mason to create a "black student advisory

jeb bush is in eastern iowa today.. after stopping in goose lake last night. during his time on stage.. bush touched on some big political issues right now... including fighting isis and the syrian refugee crisis. bush was in dubuque this morning -- he's now in waterloo campaigning this afternoon. ohio governor john kasich also campaigning in iowa yesterday...holding a town hall in ames. he continues to push the importance of balancing the federal budget. kasich was supposed to participate in a forum in cedar rapids yesterday but had to postpone due to weather. on the demcratic side, bernie sanders back on the campaign trail today. yesterday the vermont senator had hernia surgery. a campaign spokesperson for the 74-year old doesn't believe the demands of the campaign trail caused the medical condition. the state department releases another 78-hundred pages of hillary clinton's emails...the largest release to date. they say it's part of the court- ordered disclosure and goal to produce 66-percent of clinton's emails by yesterday.

and received in 2012 or 2013. no details about the messages have been released. the university of chicago is back open today. police arrested a 21-year-old yesterday -- he's charged with making an online threat...saying 16 white men on campus would be killed in retaliation of the white officer killing a black teen. governor branstad is continuing with plans to shift the state's medicaid program to private management. a judge recommends the state throw out one of the four contracts. "those of us that are in health plan, it's a managed care system. and it's worked, i think, very effectively and it's worked effectively in other states, and i see no reason why in iowa we can't work it effectively." governor branstad stressed the state hasn't decided how to proceed.

team. see the screen for your complete weather information. here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: we will end up with mainly snow showers today and tonight as the low tracks to the northeast. stormtrack7 live weather network cameras will show cloudy skies and some snow showers this afternoon. we saw our highs right after midnight this morning and we have been holding steady in the low to mid 30s for much of the day. it is much colder to the west where some in nw iowa reported 9" of snow! winds are southerly at 5 to 15 mph and will be from the southwest for much of the day. the low is tracking almost to the north right now and will keep snow showers tracking into our area through the day and into the night as that next lobe rotates around. as the low tracks away from us, high pressure will track in from the west and will help to dry us out for the rest of the week.. until then we will keep snow showers in the area through tonight with most only seeing a trace to an inch... although some could get a little more in

the one-day charitable giving promotion. it launched in 2012...urging people to donate to charity. last year, the hashtag giving tuesday was mentioned more than 750-thousand times on twitter. many eastern iowa nonprofits are participating. for travelers wanting to make healthier choices, a new survey ranks airlines on the best in-flight food.

with the "healthiest" choices in the sky, followed by delta and jetblue. each airline was assigned a health score based on ten criteria, including health and calorie levels of meals, snack boxes and individual snacks... and cooperation in providing nutritional information. a-t-and-t customers lucky enough to still have unlimited data plans are going to have to pay more next year. it will cost another five- dollars per month-- bringing the monthly price up to 35-bucks. a-t-and-t stopped offering unlimited plans in 2010...but people who already signed up have been able to keep them. the company said the price hike will start in february. coming up on kwwl, the mister food test kitchen....our annual christmas cookie countdown begins today with a very magical recipe. wait 'til you see what's in it.

countdown. so if you love cookies, then all this month you're going to want to go online as we reveal a new cookie every day. today, we are starting with a bar cookie that is holiday festive and easy as can be. so what do you say we roll up our sleeves and get baking? we start by placing a stick of butter in a 9" x 13" baking dish and popping it in the oven just long enough for the butter to melt. once it does, we sprinkle on some graham cracker crumbs, then a layer of chocolate chips, and those can be the mint chocolate chips if you want - like i'm using here, followed by a good amount of chopped walnuts and shredded coconut. now we pour a can of sweetened condensed milk over it.which holds it all together. and since it's christmas, we top it with a few red and green mini chocolate coated candies to make it even more magical before baking it. after it cools, cut it into squares and they're ready to serve with a big glass of milk

now faces charges. the image of the dog with gray tape across its mouth was posted friday. within 24 hours, the post was shared hundreds of thousands of times, from as far away as australia. officers found her in north this? yes she was. like i said, she realizes she made a terrible decision. police did not take the dog away...saying the dog is current on its shots, spayed, microchipped, well- fed and generally well cared for. police are investigating after one of their own vehicles cacthes fire. fire crews in fort dodge found the mobile speed camera car on fire. the inside of the car was "we still have people that ask for the car in their them, but it's real easy to

the speed car, it's slow down." the fort dodge police department does own a second unit which is still in service. a house catches fire -- and a woman says her four- year-old son is responsible. the virginia mother says she was sleeping and the boy was playing in another room when he got a lighter and lit the mattress on "like, i never thought anything like this could happen to my family. a louisiana family is shaken ... but grateful they didn't get hurt... after a toy hoverboard reportedly set their home on fire. they only had it for a day. susan roesgen has the story: us what used to be her and there it was... the practically melted hoverboard -- still on the floor -- right where it was when jessica says she saw it explode! on orders from fire investigators we didnt touch

(hayden carbo/son) "when it happened, i couldn't believe ... it was hard to put it out. it was pretty big. caught flames fast." hoverboards run on lithium batteries... and just like a cell phone they have to be re- charged. hayden says he had just plugged his in -- moments before the fire. we talked to the consumer product safety commission... and believe it or not, the federal agency has had just eight reports of hoverboard injuries in the last three months -- all related to falls --

disobedience and wasn't trying to hurt anyone. today marks a major milestone in the civil rights movement. it's the 60th anniversary of the day rosa parks was arresred. she refused to give up her seat on the bus for a white man. less than a week later, martin just weeks before the 50th anniversary of her arrest. gas prices continue to drop across the country -- the average at two dollars and four cents per gallon. and iowa is among the states where you can find gas cheaper than two dollars a gallon. gas-buddy says the cheapest gas in the country is at a sam's club in lafayette, indiana, where a gallon of regular is just a dollar-39. six states don't have a single station selling gas below two dollars a gallon...alaska, california, hawaii, maine, montana and vermont. car sales are on track to break the record set back in 2000- when 17.4 million vehicles were sold in the u-s. iowa dealers say their sales are up

a north carolina barber is making good on his promise to a young customer. the student came in for a haircut and was told he would receive a free cut with a good report card. mike hansen shares what happened barbershop.
