were killed and another 14 were wounded when three gunmen opened fire at a social services facility in san bernardino, california. police chief jarrod burguan says the suspects were armed with long guns when they entered the inland regional center and later fled the scene in a dark colored s-u-v. police tracked down the s-u-v and pinned it between two swat vehichles. police slowly surrounded the vehicle with gun drawns. you're looking live at what is believed to be the suspect's vehicle... it is in between three police vehicles. the vehicle is riddled with bullets -- and it is police understanding that there is only one of the three suspects inside the shot. one is believed to have rolled out of the vehicle when police came up. police think one is dead - one is injured.

spoken, electing quentin hart as mayor. hart beating former mayor tim hurley last night. making history in the process, becoming the first african american mayor. kwwl's nikki newbrough joins us live. nikki you spoke with the new mayor today. quentin hart brought up the voting rights act, celebrating 50 years in august. he says there are many people...black and white who have sacrificed for hart to have these opportunities. a special moment tuesday night for the man born and raised in waterloo. "there are no papers in wanted to become mayor." but hart says he's happy, blessed...even making history, becoming the first african american mayor in waterloo but he doesn't want to focus on that. "and you know i'm african american. i'm proud of who i am but my goal is to become the best mayor of this entire city." even quentin's opponent, tim hurley gracious and proud of hart. "he had a superb organization and a great campaign. he's articulate. he stayed with his message and he won.

few hours for hart have been a whirlwind, he's been thinking about the future of this city for a while now. hart ran on five different platform issues, with safer streets as number one. hart believes it will be important to build that trust between the law enforcement and the community. "because right now we only see particular law enforcement when there's a response to a crime situation, but trying to be a little bit more proactive our police chief." hart also stresses for things to change it's going to be a community wide effort. quentin hart says making the streets safer is dear to his heart. he says he stood with marshaw glover's family as they look for the person who shot the four year old. he says he also walked in the peace

we've got you covered nikki newbrough kwwl news. in cedar falls, jim brown beat jon crews in the runoff election there. shortly after the november election crews decided to retire and endorce brown. one person is injured after shots were fired in cedar rapids it happened in the 16-hundred block of b avenue northeast around 8 last night. police say a 19- year-old was shot in the in the arm-- they believe he is expected to be o-k no arrests have been made at this time. continuing coverage...in a story we first broke to you yesterday. a mother is frustrated tonight... after no charges can be filed against a woman who attempted to take her son from a school bus stop. thankfully the boy got on the bus safely and unharmed. kwwl's lauren moss has been looking into this -- this is concerning parents.. many people reached out to

not facing any charges at this time. well, police say there is still a lot to do with this case...but it's a complicated one. this story was shared hundreds of times from our kwwl facebook page overnight.. and i spoke with police today, trying to answer some of your questions.. chief dan trelka says it's a unique case because the woman was under obvious mental stress. she never touched the boy...but she did lie to his bus driver claiming she was the boy's sister..and that she needed to take him with her. she told police she tried to take him because she hallucinated and geuinenly thought the boy needed her help..and police say they can't arrest her for that right now. :she lied to the bus driver and trelka: the problem we are having is we are unable to disprove what she said because of her obvious mental health crisis. at last check the woman is still

covered by ice at the time of the crash. the driver's name is being withheld until family can be notified. a hawkeye man received minor injuries after a rollover crash. the fayette county sheriff's office says julian leitzman lost control because of poor weather condition. leitzman's truck slid into a ditch and flipped over. leitzman was trapped and had to be removed by hawkeye fire. he was sent to the hospital for minor injuries. four thousand pigs were killed in wellman when their nursery caught fire tuesday night. brennenman pork owned the building and the pigs inside... and have been surveying the damage since last night. kwwl's hilllary maglin talked to (sot. cg: hillary maglin) "brennenman pork took a huge hit when one of their buildings "before i knew it, my husband was flying out of the driveway. cousin, family member was there market hogs died when their nursery on the brenneman pork property in wellman caught fire tuesday night between 9:30 and 10 p-m. the wellman... keota... and kalona fire departments

cedar rapids police department for decades k9s have been working with officers to keep the community safe, (cg: curt buckles/ crpd officer and k9 handler) "you've got a partner that you know gets you full of dog hair curt buckles and his dog, narco, have been together for over six years... (cg: curt buckles) "you know we have a great bond and someday when he can no longer come to work with me it's going to be a sad day." now, over looking downtown from sunner park, is a memorial dedicated to narco and the rest of the k9s that have served this community in so many ways. (cg: kristin rogers) when they aren't on duty the k9's go then the k9s go to work, with their best friend by their side... now their service is physically recognised, and their names are engraved in stone... the department is adding a new dog very soon, to fill a spot after one of their k9s recently died unexpectedly.... once the new dog arrives, it's name will be added to the stone.... we've got you covered live in cedar rapids, kristin rogers ...kwwl news. we are told all of the cedar rapids police k9s have protective vests to help keep them safe on the job. tense moments behind the wheel for a kentucky officer after a deer ran into his police cruiser. it was all captured on his patrol car dash cam. the animal slammed into the hood of the car, then flipped into a road sign before hitting the ground.

whille the uni volleyball team came up short in the mvc tournament falling in the semifinals to eventual champ wichita state they did do enough to get an invite to the ncaa tournament. uni who finished 19- 14 on the season are one of four valley teams to make it to tourney... head coach bobbi petersen describes what the locker room was like.
