more details coming out tonight about the mass shooting at a social services facility in san bernardino, california -- but still a lot of unsanswered questions. authorities now confirming two suspects are dead -- one man, one woman -- following the mass shooting which killed at least 14 and injured 17. you can see some of the aftermath here -- people being loaded into ambulances on stretchers. emergency responders helping people struggling to walk due to their injuries. swat teams later surrounding a black s-u-v -- where the suspects were reportedly shot and killed. authorities say both suspects were armed with assault rifles and handguns, dressed in "assault-style" clothing. one of them has now been id'd as syed farook. -- another is believed to be farook's brother: authorities also saying they are not ruling out terrorism at this let's head over to jinah ) kim -- who is live in san bernardino with more. nbc's jinah (gina) kim has the latest from san bernadino.

suspects just hours after the shooting.... police moved frm house to house after a deadly fire fight with the suspects. one person is killed after a head-on collision --possibly due to icy roads. it happened on east dunekrton road -- just east of north raymond road in black hawk county. authorities say a driver crossed the centerline -- and collided head-on with a second vehcile. the victim's name has not been released at this time. a 19-year-old is taken to the hospital after police say he was shot in the arm. officers responding to the 16-hundred block of b avenue a vehicle was also hit by gunfire nearby. the teen's injuries are not believed to be life- threatening. no arrests have been made at this time. a man is charged with murder in connection to two deaths -- after a standoff with police. officers chasing 39-year-old michael wanchanic for several miles along highway 141 near des moines. he was stopped about eight miles east of perry -- leading to a standoff. he later surrendered and was taken into custody. he's charged with killing 36-year-old

heather belieu after they were found shot to death in a des moines home on monday. they had been living with wanchanic before the shooting. continuing coverage now--the university of iowa announcing today they're naming their new children's hospital after a pair of maquoketa natives. that facility will be called the stead family university of iowa children's hospital, thanks in large part to a 25 million dollar donation made to the the project by jerre and mary joy stead. kwwl's brad hanson getting a chance to speak to people at the university about the decision today. he joins us live from iowa city with the latest. 54 million dollars--that's the total amount the stead's have donated in their lifetimes. and their latest gift will mean their name on one of the university's newest facilities. this major construction project on the university of iowa campus--totalling 360 million dollars--will have a new name when it's dedicated next november.

(jean robillard, v.p. medical affairs) "they are honored, they are excited about this. and interestingly, this is not something they wanted to give money for brick and mortar, that's not what they do. but in this case, they understood the impact was so large to the people they love in iowa, that they decide to do it that way." the decision hasn't come totally without controversy. (brad hanson, @bhansonkwwl) "there is some speculation that the decision to name this facility after the stead family is somehow connected to the relationship jerre stead has new president. but a spokesperson with the university tells me the request to name this after the stead family was made long before the presidential search began." either way, 25 million will go a long way to make sure children in iowa are taken care of. "i think more important than all that is the impact of their gift

"oh i loved that. i went twice. over the united state, and a part of europe." now -- emma says she her best friend and caretaker -- bonnie seehase. "she's a nice person. she and i never knew each other until i came here, so i put her in as my poa. she has managed everything for me. she's been right on the spot." a police departvideo of an officer nearly getting shot in the head after pulling over a driver believed to be under the influence. we do want to warn you -- some viewers might find the video to be a bit disturbing. "you want to step out here real quick? turn around and put your your back."

you can see there the officer running away as the gun goes off -- just missing his face by inches. the suspect remains on the loose and is considered armed and dangerous. luckily -- the officer only suffered minor injuries in the shooting. a police cruiser hits a deer -- sending it flying into the air. take a look. nats (deer hitting windshield) you can see there the deer hitting the windshield of the kentucky police car. take another look at it. luckily -- the officer was not injured -- and the deer was able woods. just yesterday we told you about somebody making a huge donation to the salvation army red kettle campaign. today -- we have just the opposite -- someone seen on video stealing one. take a look at the surveillance video from a convenience store in indiana. the man and the woman approach

northern iowa athletic director troy dannen is moving on from cedar falls iowa... accepting the same dannen, has spent seven years as the head honcho of uni athletics where uni has enjoyed success staying in elite status in many sports in the missouri vallley conference. overseeing a number of conference championships and postseason apperances dannen replaces rick dickson who has been the green waves ad since 2000. on to the hardwood uni panthers hosting iowa state cyclones first quarter belonged to the cyclones emily durr burries a three ball and later nicole blaskowsky going through the lane for the deuce cyclones outscored the panthers 19-6 in the first quarter... uni chipping away madison weekly with the finger roll panther down just 11 then stephanie davison pulls down the offensive board takes it out and drains a three ball

and currently the hawkeyes ---- lets talk panther football... mark farley squad is currently gearing up for their second round matchup vs sixth seeded portland state in the fcs playoffs. panthers looked awfully tought to beat last week quarterback aaron bailey accounted for 234 total yards going 7-11 with three tds. the panthers also rushed for 323 yards while the panthers defense held eastern illinois to just "i thought we had a good football team but its taken uh, life here as of late and the football right now." panthers and vikings kickoff is at 9 o clock here locally saturday from portland. the big ten championship is under 72 hours away... and while the fans anxiously await the iowa hawkeys are prepping for their biggest game of the season. the hawkeyes and the spartans match up pretty evenly... both running
