viewing area with winds less thth 10 mph. the skies will stay clear, so the fog should burn off quickly as the sun comes up. highs will climb into the low to mid 40s over most of the area today. we will stay warm through the weekend... i'll have that forecast in a few minutes. we begin this morning with the latest on the investigation in the california attack. police are looking for the man who bought two rifles used in the mass shooting. syed farook and his wife killed

police say they handguns and rifles they had were bought legally more than three years ago. farook bought the pistols, but a man authorities won't identify bought the rifles. it's unclear if that man bought the guns for farook -- of if "when it comes to people who protecting the people along the way." authorities say they don't know why farook and his wife attacked a social services center -- but they say it appears he had been radicalized. this is what the president had to say about the tragedy. their loss is our loss too, and we're all one american family. we look out for each other in good times and in bad. the president talked about it during the national christmms tree lighting ceremony -- saying this is a wonderful time of year, but at

to think of those who are suffering right now. today, thousands of people are expected at an officer's funeral. the officer was killed in the shooting at a colorado springs planned parenthood on friday. two others were also killed in that attack -- and nine more were injured or wounded, including five officers. the debate about guns is front and center again in washington after recent attacks. yesterday, the senate voted against more background checks. the bill -- which was bi-partisan -- would've required more checks for guns bought online and at gun shows. the vote was 50-47 against -- with both senators from iowa voting no. in new york -- a county sheriff is urging gun owners to arm themselves. he says -- in light of what's happened recently -- he's encouraging those who are licensed to carry their weapon with them. "i'm not saying you have to, but the county was there to help us."

-- is one of the few in the another hot topic on capitol hill is obamacare -- and republicans again vote to dismantle the law. the vote is largely symbolic because the president will veto it -- and republicans don't have enough votes to override it. but they want to use his veto as a message to voters in next year's election that sending a republican to the white house could mean the end of obama care parenthood. speaking of the race for the white house: the republicans cover many topics at a jewish, faith- based forum. reid binion shows us what they talked about -- along with a few awkward moments. more than a dozen g-o-p candidates -- courted voters at the republican jewish coalition thursday. many took the opportunity to talk tough on terrorism--new jersey governor chris christie called the mass shooting in san bernardino terrorism "as a former prosecutor ... i am convinced that was a terrorist attack. we need to come to

remarks with this: "last night i was watching 'schindler's list. everybody here has seen schindler's list." in the democratic race, a key endorsement for hillary clinton. the u-s labor secretary plans to give his support to her in iowa today. it's seen as a huge blow to one of the other democrats in the race -- martin o'malley. he helped launch the labor secretary's career in maryland. clinton will be in sioux city and fort dodge later today. this morning, music fans are remembering a very talented singer who has died. scott weiland -- the former frontman for stone temple pilots passed away in his sleep. he and his band -- the wildabouts -- were touring in minnesota this week. weiland was 48 years old. a week later -- and no sign of an eastern iowa teenager. ethan weitzenkamp was last seen on thanksgiving night at home in

he left a note saying he needed to start a new life -- but his parents say that doesn't seem like something he'd do. he disappeared days before his first wrestling match as a something's happened to him or he might have befriended somebody that took advantage of him. because he is a very generous person and that's what we are scared of, that something bad has happened to him." the family says there has been no sign of ethan's unique car -- which you see in this picture. volunteers organized a search for him yesterday and will continue today. ambulances surround an elementary school -- after a carbon monoxide scare. it happened yesterday in chicago. more than 100 students and faculty were checked out at the hospital. there's no word what caused the high levels of carbon monoxide -- but we know detectors were put in all chicago public schools after a boiler broke down at a school earlier this year.

clears up in one part of eastern iowa. many of you may recognize these streets in waterloo kimball avenue is finally free, after being under construction for almost two years crews removed the cones -- bringing it back to two lanes this is what one business had to "the first year was tough, it because there werent as many intersections closed, but its still been pretty tough" they say they had some loyal customers throughout the process -- but it was hard for many people to get to their restaurant during construction. this morning, many hawkeye fans are hitting the road -- ready to turn indianapolis into a sea of black and gold. tomorrow is the big ten championship game between the undefeated hawks and michigan state. kwwl's brad hanson spoke doug althaus and his family have been life long been waiting my whole life for. doug and his wife will make the trip to indy, but they'll have to leave

aggressive leader when it comes to shipping express are playing catch up... offering same day or next day shipping in some cities. but amazon raised the bar with "prime now" --- offering free 2 hour delivery in 24 markets in the u-s... and even a 1 hour delivery option for 8-dollars. "they just want to get it to you as fast as possible and so they're going to use any means at their disposal that's why drones could be one leg of that" amazon has been developing what it calls "prime air".... unmanned aircraft, drones, able to get packages to customers in 30 minutes or less.
