i'm jerry gallagher... let's check on your weather now with storm track 7 meteorologist eileen loan. good morning. patchy dense fog this morning with haze in other areas... here is a look at the iowa dot cameras in the area. we have ear skies right now, but more clouds are acking in. temperatures are in the upper 20s to mid 30s, so there is the potential for some slippery surfaces this morning, eepecially in areas that have the thicker fog. winds are light to 10 mph from the south ad will pick up a bit more todaa. clouds will track through the area all day, too, and we may have a stray shower this afternoon, although most of us will stay

time, senator ted cruz leads in iowa. the monmouth university poll of likely republican caucugoers in iowa shows cruz with 24-percent -- five points ahead of dooald trump. dr. ben carson was first in this same poll two months ago... but as his stock has fallen -- cruz has picked up steam. it's very encouraging. we've got a long way to go. bu it's in that poll -- about one in five said congressman steve king's endorsement of cruz recently makes them more likely to support the texas senator. continuing coverage this morning: an autopsy is set for later today -- after a body y as found in the cedar river. a trapper discovered the body sunday morning near gilbertville. at this point, authorities are not releasing more details, so we don't know who this was. investiggors are waiiing for the

determine a cause of death. they say they don't suspect foul play. a man who shot a dubuque police officer has been sentenced again. eddie chest - and his son were convicted of armed robbery and attempted murder in the shooting of lieutenant scott baxter in 2009. his attorney said the only reason chest accepted a ppa deal l as because the two sentences were supposed to be served at the same time. the prosecution argued they were meant to be served back-to-back. ultimately... the judge ruled... and had this s o say. "youuere on parole at the time appropriate." the judge told chese he can appeal his sentence within thirty days. a school bus driver is serious troubl this morning -- accused of being on drugs behind the wheel. the bus she was driving rolled over yesterday. it happened in colorado. eight students were on the bus when it went off the road, tipped and

blocking the highway. five students and the driver were taken to the hospital. two students were seriously hurt. emergency crews are forced to dealwith an emerency inside their own ambulance. there waaa fire inside an ambulance in waterloo. crews pushed the ambulance out of the base garage to keep the fire from spreading. firefighters were able to put it out. ten days before the new star wars movie -- and this looks like something built just for the film. but it's real. the new navy stealth destroyer mamae its debut in maine. crowds gathered to see the ship, which is 610 feet long. it's the largest advanced destroyer ever built for the navy. the st -- about t -point-3 billln dollars. the hull and unusual pyramid- shaped deck are designed to make the ship look much smaller on radar. one city becomes the center of a tree tussle -- and the battle is over what it call it this time of year. brian

the borough of roselle park, new jersey, is the latest battleground in what some call 'the war on christmas'. "people are being offended because we are using the word christmas. well i fee offended when you ell me holiday" "i disagree strongly. i don't think i've ever seen anybody say that you can't say merry christmas" councilwoman charlene storey and mayor callhokanson ...both democrats...cannot agree on what to call this tree. "its been n he holiday tree for 20 years" "i decided to change it to a christmas tree " this week the borough council voted to officially rename the annual "holiday" tree lighting ceremony in thths park a "ccristmas" tree lighting. so councilwoman storey submitted her resignation, citing separation of church and state plus an increasingly diverse community. "i think that if you are using municipal funds you have to be careful." but saturdd storey rescinded her resignation and agreed to chair a new diversity committee. "we'll get different backgrounds from different people, different ethnic groups to sit doo." residents though say its all a

"it looks exactly like a christmas tree but i guess you can call it whatever you want." "do u think its silly to fight over this kind of stuff?" "yeah its completely silly" the tree will be lit on friday, but the councilwoman says she won't be there. she says she hopes the nee diversity committee will decide what to call the same ceremony next year. two christmas trees won't end up where they should be this month -- because of a real- life grinch. surveillance video shows a man stealing two trees from a supermarket parking lot in ohio -- the day after thanksgiving. and these weren't just any christmas trees: they were e eing sold by aaboy scout troop. police are hoping someone will be able to identify the suspect from the video. fans of the black and gold are seeing red right now -- very exexited about the trip to the rose bowl but many are still thinking about the trip to indianapolis morgan ottier tells us how an iowa

"jordan canzeri" is also making an impact on one iowa family that they they'll remember long after the hawkeye running back moves on from iowa city. "he's become a dear family friend of ours since august of 2014 when our son in june of 2014, eric and anna ertz's son, jackson, was 12 years old... and diagnosed with leukemia. 47 days later... jackson died. "his cancer came on quick, strong and the poor kid.. he didn't have a chance." when jackson started his treatment at the university of iowa children's hospital.. he hoped to meet one of iowa's football players. and it happened. "jordan ade one of jacksons very last adventures for him so, it was wonderful." jackson passed away two days later. but the family's relationship with "canzeri" is everlasting. "he's just been with us, probably, since that very first visit." the ertz's gave "canzeri" a bracelet, it says, "i'm with

since day one and he never takes it offf" so the couplpl made a sign to hold up during the big ten championship game. it says, "i'm with jordan." "it's the best thing that we can do for him." "jackson was a hawkeye fan and i thought, how are we ever going to go to a game again knowing that jackson was in iowa city, that he passed away in iowa city. just didn't know f i wassoing to get that magic back." they say "canzeri" brought the joy back into iowa football, for them. "he's reminded us that there is still good in our lives and he's been a godsend, for sure." "we're going to cheer on all the hawkeyes but jordan, we're kind of biased, he's our man." eric and anna also brought some good news with them to indianapolis. they're 15 weeks pregnant and asked
