family of a missing waterloo teen is now planning his funeral. 18-year-old moe sed went missing from his home in october. his body was pulled from the cedar river near gilbertville sunday morning. kwwl's nikki newbrough is live in our newsroom with more. nikki? it's been a tough week for moe sed's family, friends, and the waterloo west high school community. today the body pulled from the cedar river on sunday was positivly identified as moe sed. for more than a month missing person posters hung up throughout town. there was a prayer vigil and a handful of community searches. waterloo police say the autopsy showed now signs of trauma, but they aren't exactly sure how he died. captain dave mohlis says those results could take up to six weeks to be completed. today sed's teachers at west

"just udder devastation and sadness and we're the teachers but i can't even imagine being the parents and our hearts just went out to the parents and the family." the wagner sisters, along the non-profit embarc were huge forces in helping organize those searches for him. they say they are thankful and proud of this community for coming together. you may remember, moe sed is a refugee from burma. officials with the waterloo school district say the ethnic minorities of burma have different cultural norms regarding death. we'll talk about that in the story i'm workin on for tonight at six. moe sed's family released a statement. it says: "our family is not sure what to say as we grieve the loss of our son. we are thankful for the support of the police and sheriff's departments and the entire cedar

community for the many ways everyone came together to support our family during this difficult time." new charges filed for this man -- originally only charged with attempted murder for trying to kill his mother. brandon thoma now faces felony burglary and theft charges. police say thoma drove from pella to elkader, broke into his mother's elkader home back in november to try and kill her. he'll be arraigned in clayton county on december 22. a national group is calling out the iowa regents for how they handeled their president search. the american association of university professors says the regents favored now- president bruce harreld in their search. chant sounds - 3 seconds. many students and facutly members protested the regents in recent months because they believe harreld was an inside candidate. the aaup said the regents lead candidates to believe they were in an honest search - when harreld was on the inside track to the

have a mostly clear night for the first part of the overnight, and then we will have a few high clouds track in. tomorrow we will have periods of sun and clouds. we will have another warm day with temperatures back in the 50s. a couple light rain shower are possible late tomorrow afternoon and evening. but the better chance for rain is on saturday and sunday. more on that here in just a few minutes. we had a wind advisory that expired here at 5 o'clock. now, we are still dealing with gusty winds, especially in our northern counties where we still have high wind speeds and wind gusts. but notice to our west, the wind is much lighter so we are anticipating the wind speed to die down just a bit.

doppler radar shows dry conditions here across eastern iowa. the light rain that tracked through is now well off to the east in parts of wisconsin. satellite and radar across the midwest. we have low pressure that brought the light rain a little bit earlier today in parts of wisconsin and into northern michigan. that's taking the clouds with it. so we will have a period of clear skies before high clouds track in from the west. all eyes are on our next storm system over the weekend. right now we have an unorganized area of low pressure to our west. this will continue to develop in the southern plains and then bring rain our way for the weekend. we'll track that out in just a couple moments. closer back home, the storm

weather networks cameras across eastern iowa show mainly dry conditions after the light rain tracked through our northern counties. we will see the sky clear in our eastern counties. temperatures are still well above average for this time of year, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s right now. future track shows clear skies tonight, with clouds increasing during the over night hours. these will be high clouds. as we go into tomorrow morning, we will start off with partly cloudy skies, but will get some periods of sunshine through the day. we will notice an increase in clouds from the south during the afternoon. this is as moisture tracks back into the the afternoon clouds thicken up, the area by saturday afternoon. the best chance of rain will be saturday night into sunday. as far as the rain tonight. seven day forecast. we will have rain track through the area snowflakes, mainly to the north,

they're calling suspicious.... the fire happened on mulberry street in waterloo last night.... officers were collecting evidence at the scene. police tell us firefighters smelled gas and thought it may be an arson. everyone got out of the home safely. and investigators are looking into another fire considered suspicious in cedar rapids... firecrews have been called to this vacant home on l- street three times in the past two months alone. police... neighbors... and even the homeowners believe each fire was started on purpose. police say just this morning after the fire, the homewowner signed papers to have the house demolished. today -- police are investigating after a man went into an eastern iowa restaurant -- because he had been stabbed and was looking for help. waterloo police aren't sure where the stabbing happened. they learned about it after the victim walked into the perkins restaurant on university avenue shortly after two this morning. the victim was taken to allen hospital.

the golden globes unveiled its nominees today for the best in tv and movies. mark barger spotlights some of the major nominees in the film categories. nats "there are no accidents" nominations....including best drama. further testing by the f-b-i. a minnesota man is behind bars tonight -- accused of conspiring with isis. the fbi says 20 year old ab-dear- izak mohamed warsame is now charged with conspiracy to provide material to terrorists. investigators say warsame was actually trying to recruit other men from minnesota's somali community to go fight for isis in syria -- nine other members of that group face charges. after dozens are sickened by its food, the ceo of chipotle says places to eat. a lot of changes coming to the restaurant after dozens are sickened across the country - first with an e. coli outbreak , and more recently with a norovirus outbreak on the east cost. the chipotle c-e-o says the new procedures will be put into place that are 10 to 15 years ahead of industry norms. laser lights -- they're the hot christmas decoration this

they've been causing problems for pilots across the country. recently, a christmas light display was blamed for blinding a pilot over texas. a similar incident reported in california the air traffic manager at the cedar rapids airport says lasers can be blinding for pilots... jason mullet lives in cedar rapids -- he says he was ( cg: jason mullet) " i thought about it a little bit but maybe if they're flying this way it wouldn't effect them but maybe if they're flying this way it would, i don't know, maybe that is a concern." there haven't been any reports of beams hitting planes in our area. still to come on the k-w-w-l news at five... iowa state patrol deputies have an extra special holiday helper this year... --------- ---------
