kill his mother is facing more charges. 24-year-old brandon thoma, of pella, is charged with attempted murder -- and is now also facing burglary and theft charges. police say thoma broke into his mother's home in elkader last month -- pushed hr down the ssairs and tried choking her with a shovel. his next court appearance is scheduled for the 22nd. a pilot is killed after crashing his small plane into the interstae in western iooa. the pilot radioed back saying he was experiencing problems -- shortly after takeoff near councibluffs. he tried to return to the airport -- bt went down just north of downtown council bluffs. part of the e anding gear was found just a few feet away from the plane. the pilot's name has not been released. a vacant house catches fire for the third time in the last couple months. it happened on l street in cedar rapids early this morning. authorities believe the home was intentionally set on fire. the homeowner says there's been a lot of problems at the home -- since iisuffered someedamage in the 2008 flooding. but she says she doesn't

area of low pressure to our west. this will continue to develop in thh southern plains and then bring rain our way for the weekend. we'll track that out in just a couple moments. closer back home, the storm track 7 live weather networks cameras across eastern iowa show mainn dry conditions after the light rain tracked through our northern counties. we will see the sky clear in our eastern counties. temperatures are still well above average for this time of year, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s right now. future track shows clear skies tonight, with clouds increasing during the over night hours. these will be high clouds. as we go into tomorrow morning, we will start off f ith partly cloudy skies, but will get some periods of sunshine through the day. we will notice an increase in clouds from the south during the afternoon. this is as moisture tracks back into the area. that could produce e few stray showers during the late afternoon, with possible drizzle during the overnight friday. most of saturday morning will be dry across the area, however by the afternoon clouds thicken up, and there will be an increased
