new hampshire -- also the location of the third democratic debate saturday evening... at the forefront for the democratic contenders -- a sudden information theft scandal and a rift between the two frontrunners. nbc's chris pollone fills us in... a day after a data breach controversy led to a war of words between the bernie sanders and stifle the bad blood. sanders apologized at the beginning of the third democratic debate. admitting a member of his staff accessed clinton's private voter data file after a software glitch gave his team unauthorized access. "yes, i apologize. this is not find anyone else involved in this, they will also be fired." just as sanders dismissed concerns over clinton's use of a private personal email server in the first democratic debate, clinton chose not to hammer sanders over this week's breach. clinton return to iowa this week -- where both have spent quite a bit of time this month... the party frontrunner clinton will be in the quad cities on tuesday -- while her main challenger sanders will start a three day western iowa swing tomorrow... we're now just 44 days away from the big caucus day -- when iowa will take center stage of the presidential race... waterloo police say they stopped actively looking for the man who ran from officers. we first brought you the breaking news as it was unfolding yesterday -- authorities say they were chasing a man - who then crashed on interstate 3-80 between brandon and jesup -- and then ran away through a cornfield. this all started when waterloo because of a request from hardin county...police say they believe he broke into a closed business there... now he's not considered dangerous ...but some people in brandon say they're concerned-- because he has not been caught...and may still be in the area.

problems." many people in the area say they were concerned when they first heard about the chase -- because crime like this doesn't happen in the area... an iowa teenager -- accused of sexually abusing a five-year-old girl is released from jail -- after a judge waives his bond. the teen was let go -- after he was charged with second-degree sexual abuse. authorities believe the teenager took pictures of the little girl's genitals -- at an in- home daycare -- operated by the teen's mother. court documents indiciate the photos were found on the teen's phone. 1 hundred- thousand dollars in bond was initially set after the arrest -- but a different judge waived the bond -- and released him. wisconsin police are searching for a shooter this morning -- who shot another person at a mall during one of the busiest shopping days of the season. witnesses say ten people started fighting with each other at the mall -- police believe they knew each other..

as christmas week begins -- people in eastern iowa are celebrating the holiday in all types of ways -- including gathering for a live nativity scene... the annual event was held at the dubuque. people dressed up in various joseph. a baby doll was used as jesus. there were also live animals -- like sheep, a goat, and even a donkey. organizers say its a community effort that's been going on for

least 20 years... in another part of the country -- a group is spreading holiday cheer in an unusual but sweet way... they call themselves the christmas ninjas... they're a group of friends doing their part to bring christmas to some today... many people were onboard the small aircraft... investigation at the scene will continue this morning... congress approving measures to improve security and living conditions in central america this week...all to help limit the amount of migrants heading to the u-s. but as nbc's mark potter reports, the number of migrants -- including a high number of children -- is on the rise in what some are calling the "new normal"... texas road near the rio grande, u.s. border patrol agents come upon a group of about forty young men, women and united states illegally through mexico. as the agents are processing these migrants...another group of central americans walks right up to them...they, too, just crossed the rio grande on a smuggler's raft. on this road, earlier this week, agents find three children and two young mothers from honduras--one of them pregnant. this woman, leily, says she's fleeing violent honduran street gangs, to protect her daughters.

this morning life is a symphony of sounds. from the babble of a nearby fountain... to the subtle tune of christmas carols... but what if for 7-year-old byron grant jr. he passed his newborn hearing test... but before his 2nd birthday a daycare worker told his mother... there was something off about his hearing. "she said,"hey, i hit a drum behind him and all the other kids reacted, but he didn't." he hearing aids but it wasn't making enough of a difference... so byron was given cochlear implants. "i don't want him to be limited. i want him to have his full potential." his first cochlear implant was turned on in june... and his mother said it has

broken tomorrow... the film itself is expected to have the biggest opening weekend in north american history -- expected to haul in 2 hundred 20 - million dollars by the end of today... a real-life version of the classic movie miracle on 34th street is taking place in a way -- at a hospital in kansas city... cynthia newsome tells us the characters in this drama are santa, his surgeon and a cast of kids in the hospital... here's their story... "do you think we need some this is santa at his best surrounded by children, handing out presents. spreading holiday cheer in the pediatric unit at the university of kansas hospital. "and if i can make them smile, laugh and forget a little bit of pain, that's what i'm here for." santa has also been dealing with pain. for several years, santa and his wife laura were mr
