i'm ally crutcher. jerry has the day off. let's check on your weather now with storm track 7 meteorologist eileen loan. good morning. showers and drizzle continue to track through the state, with more rain heading our way from the south this morning. we also have fog... iowa dot cameras are showing many areas with it this morning.... visibilities are down to zero in a few places and below 2 miles in many others. temperatures are pretty nice now, but will be slowly falling throughout the day with northwest winds taking over. they will be 5 to 15 mph today, but we will keep the morning rain/drizzle and fog

the afternoon. we have a rather active week for christmas... i'll have the details in a few minutes. new this morning... a woman dies after a mobile home catches fire in cedar rapids. it haaened in the 23-hundred block of kelly street southwest sunday night. firefighters found the back half of the home on fire. during the search, fire crews found the woman inside the home. she was pronounced dead at the scene. the cause and manner of the death and the fire is under investigation. more than 35 people were injured after a car crashed into a crowded sidewalk on the las vegas strip. at least one person was killed and 36 others injured. at least six of the injured are in critical condition. police say the vehicle drove off the sidewalk after hitting a car, then drove back onto the sidewalk and hit more pedestrians. here's what a witness had to say... "there was an lady, an african-american lady, and it and was looking straightforward. and there were men running after

and they couldn't get to her. they were yelling "stop stop" and she just wasn't trying." investigators say while they think the crash may have been intentional, they pointed out this was not an act of terrorism. the driver is now in custody. today, investigators hope to identify the victims of a small plane crash. five people died when the small plane went down in california yesterday. it took investigators three hours to find the wreckage. federal investigators are looking into the crash...but it usually takes months to determine what went wrong in incidents like this one. one person was killed when a greyhound bus crashed into an s- u-v in texas over the weekend. the crash left one person in the s-u-v dead, while another one was hospitalized with serious injuries. police say 16-more people on the bus were injured as well, but their lives are not in danger. investigators are looking into what happened.

after being attacked by a bear. it happened in a new jersey forest...he was leading three scouts. the boys were not hurt. the man's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. the friend and former neighbor of one of the san bernardino shooters is due in court for a bail and detention hearing. enrique marquez is charged with conspiracy to commit crimes of terrorism and federal weapons charges. prosecutors say he bought the two assault rifles the attackers used in the massacre. 14 people were killed -- and more than 20 wounded. more than a day after the chase ends -- police find the suspect they were looking for. johnathan martin is accused of leading police on a chase on interstate 3-80 between brandon and jesup saturday morning. officers tried to pull him over on a request from hardin county -- he's accused of breaking into a business there. police tell us martin crashed the car he was driving and ran away through a cornfield saturday. yesterday -- martin called for an ambulance from a waterloo home-- to be treated for severe frostbite.

an iowa high school wrestler dies after collapsing during a tournament. senior austin roberts went to spencer high school in spencer, iowa. according to the spencer high school facebook page, roberts collapsed on the mat and later died at the hospital. for now, we're waiting to find out what caused his collapse... "i really n't know what happppned. it looked like things give like he was completely worn out," a go fund me page is now set up to support the family. a funeral will be held today to remember the life of a young man gone too soon. missing teen moe sed was found in the cedar river a little more than a week ago. his funeral will be at 10:30 this morning at the first baptist church in waterloo. for more details --head over to our website kwwl.com prosecutors are reviewing the death of a 4-year-old girl who died last june to determine whether to file

an autopsy determined that gracie buss suffered serious head injuries-- but it didn't confirm how she got those injures. waterloo police have turned the case over to the black hawk county attorney's office. former president jimmy carter has lost his grandson. carter broke the news to his church in georgia over the weekend. his 28-year-old grandson jeremy carter wasn't feeling well, and when he took a nap, his heart stopped while he was asleep. the family rushed him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. there's no word yet whether he was suffering from any illness. the last few days of campaigning before the holiday have many of the republican candidates meeting in new hampshire today. tracie potts has more on the latest war of words between ("nbc meet the press") super "she lies like crazy about everything." that's donald trump's reaction to what hillarr clinton (sot: hillary clinton/ (d) presidential candidate :08-:17) "they are going to people showing videos of donald trump jihadists."

on the democratic side, bernie sanders is averaging 8 points ahead of hillary clinton in new hampshire, but she's leading by 25 nationally. an awkward moment at the miss universe pageant has everyone talking this morning. it came down to two contestants... miss colombia and miss philippines. pageant host steve harvey accidentally announced colombia as the winner. miss colombia was given the sash, the bouquet and the crown and did the winning walk. and then this happened... "i have to apologize... the first runner-up is colombia. miss universe 2015 is phillippines." (cheers) believe it or not, we found out this is not the first time a

has happened. in a mrs. world pageant back in 2006, mrs. costa rica was crowned the winner when she was actually first runner-up. steve harvey sent out this tweet after the mistake-- stating : i want to apologize emphatically to miss philippines and miss colombia. this was a terribly honest human mistake and i am so regretful. the only problem with his apology tweet is he spelled philippines and colombia incorrectly. a toy story as we head into christmas week, how one man is bringing joy to kids in need, by creating one-of-a- kind gifts in his own workshop. joe fryer went to washington state to meet the man with the remarkable christmas spirit. travelers... the averagfour cents over the past two weeks... to two-dollars and six-cents a gallon. that brings gas prices back to where they were in april 2009... oil prices. the cost per b brel is down several dollars. if oil prices don't rebound quickly... we could see the price of gas shed another few cents as we head into the new year. talk about opening night horror... a theater full of star wars fans pitched a fit when the projector failed right in the middle of the film friday night. it then restarted...but played 15 or 20 minutes ahead of where they left off. most people thought they were about to see the ending of the movie and miss the plot developments. now here's something out of this world- star wars fans flocked to a church in germany for a special service themed around the sci-fi film. around 500 people carrying light

favorite characters attended the mass.. the congregation watched clips from the original film on a large screen during the service, and the organist played the iconic theme song. the mass ended with two pastors using light sabers as props during a reading from the bible. its been seven years since the black hawk rollerdrome was lost to the 2008 floods. now some people in the cedar valley are trying to bring it back. here - - the last moments of the drome - - after suffering major damage in the 2008 floods - - it the cedar valley - - the rollerdrome holds fond memories. and they hope to create future meries with today's children... kristy "they grew up here. it was a memooy for them, it was a my grandchildren." created a week ago, the petition now has more than 26-hundred signatures.

a cuddly newborn otter pup had guests crowding the outer deck at a california aquarium. the furry fluff- ball took in its first few hours of life in the ocean tide-pool. mommy otter spent her morning feeding the pup and grooming it. aquarium trainers say the mom's priority is puffing up the baby's fur so that it will float. the baby otter quickly became the center of attenon. "the otter is so cuu and lovely and all that kind of stuff and it's just so good." the otters will eventually have to leave the safe haven of the open ocean tide-pool... to search for food. it's coming up on today in iowa -- holiday get- togethers with lots of potluck food can be dangerous for those with food allergies. we'll fill you in on the dangers next. paris: there's a lot to do on a dairy farm. nobody's gonna do it for you.
