afternoon. kwwl's jessica hartman has been out on local roads today. she joins us live with the details. jessica? it really depends where you're driving. because conditions are different throughout the state. slick and snow packed roads causing a roll over accident on dysart road. you can see the car resting on its top in a deep ditch. emergency crews took at least one person to the hospital. and here is a look highway 2-18 in waterloo - - roads are wet but not snow packed. traffic is flowing at normal speeds a long there. a different story in the residential areas. this is the six corners intersection along kimball and fourth from more than an hour ago. cars taking it slow and being cautious of the many directions of traffic through the snow packed intersection. cedar fall reporting roughly 15 accidents and waterloo's total is currently close to 40. we've got you covered live in

as holiday travel gains momentum going into the weekend -- we will continue to bring you updates on road conditions. the iowa state patrol says a 15 to 20 car pileup is reported on interstate 35 north of ames. crews closed down this section of i-35 for for an hour. there are no reports of injuries at this time. system cause major problems across the midwest and southern states. last night's storms killed three people in tennessee. strong winds picked up a home -- and tossed it several hundred yards. the national weather service says preliminary information indicates four tornados touched down in central tennessee.. and the same system produced high winds, heavy rain, and even a tornado in indiana. wind gusts were as high as 60 to 70 miles per hour -- and weather officials confirmed an e-f-1

no injuries were reported as a result of that system. eastern iowa felt the storm as well. kwwl's kristin rogers joins us live in hiawatha -- where a local gymnasium experienced extensive damage. kristen? that's right, it's the christmas gift no one wanted to recieve. there were more than 50 people inside this buiding for gymnastic classes, when the storm came through, they all took shelter strong winds threw heating units around like play toys, each of the units weighing about twelve hundred pounds. (cg: john mangold/ owner of twisters gymnastics) "i went to the back door and opened coming around the building it was pretty furocious." huge trees are snapped like twigs... (cg: john mangold) "i looked up at the ceiling and you ceiling was going to come off the building." (cg: kristin rogers) "i'm told these bleachers behind me blew across the parking lot damaging multiple cars." the owners car was one was pretty bad it busted out two windows and caved in the back of the truck." thousands of dollars

rolled down a hill in kentucky. search and rescue crews say the couple was trapped inside the home with no way to get out. it took crews nearly 30 minutes to get the people free. both people were taken to the hospital -- and treated for more layoffs are announced at an eastern iowa farm equipment plant. unverferth manufacturing in shell rock says layoffs will occur by january fourth. the company told workers about the layoffs earlier this month. unverferth declined to say how many workers have lost -- or will lose their jobs. a company spokesperson says the sagging agriculture economy is the greatest contributor to these layoffs. an evansdale man is arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop. 34-year-old jordan jones was this morning. after a police k-9 searched his vehicle -- they also searched his evansdale home and found meth and marijuana. jones is charged with possession with intent to deliver -- and drugs.

100- thousand dollars. a man who was 17 when he robbed a store and shot a worth county sheriff's deputy must remain in prison. on wednesday the iowa appeals court upheld the 35-year sentence handed down to jake giles. giles is convicted of robbing a video store in manly and shooting a deuputy as he attempted to stop giles' vehicle. in august 1999 giles was sentenced to up to 25 years for attempted murder and up to 10 years for robbery, to be served consecutively. road to the rose bowl... the hawkeyes are rose-bowl bound -- after leaving for pasadena this afternoon. players, coaches, and staff boarded the plane at the eastern iowa airport in cedar rapids a few hours ago. kwwl's hillary maglin attended their sendoff. the hawkeyes arrived at the eastern iowa airport ready stanford university at the rose bowl. excitment among the laughing as they left the terminal. coach kirk ferentz

are still available through third party sites -- such as stub-hub. ticket prices have also slowly declined. you can find tickets for nearly 140 bucks. meanwhile -- tickets for the lower levels range from 175 dollars to 700. when buying tickets -- be on the lookout. cedar rapids police are warning iowans to be cautious of ticket scams. police say people reported buying tickets through craigslist -- and when they met the sellers -- the tickets were fake. the marion police department says officers are investigating a report of someone driving a car with washington state license plates -- selling counterfeit tickets. an iowa business is cashing in on the hawkeyes ahead of the rose bowl. it's expected -- but what's surprising -- the business is in cyclone nation! sigler -- an ames based business -- makes t-shirts. for the rose bowl -- they made nearly 30-thousand shirts. employees are working 12-hour shifts to crank out 3-thousand shirts a day. as soon as we get them into the stores they are selling out which is great and we are

believe it or not -- some shoppers are finishing up their last-minute shopping. eastern iowa malls accomodated for last-minute shoppers -- and many of the stores were open until six o-clock. kwwl's amanda gilbert catches up with a few shoppers. not " lisa mckiney just finished her holiday shopping... guess. percent of americans still have some presents to buy. the two biggest reasons for last minute figure out what to get. procrastination shopping are a lack of procrastination and deals are another big reason." "people do wait for the deals. they literally wait for the adds... just depending on what they are looking for." but stores are ready for these shoppers....
