with storm track 7 meteorologist eileen loan. good morning. we still have some snow showers tracking through the area this morning, but they won't add too much more today. roads are slowly improving, but they are still partially to completely covered with snow and ice with the iowa dot camera showing that most roads have at least one lane passable. visibilities are improving this morning as the winds die down, although they will stay 5

this morning and wind chills are in the teens. we will keep the few snow showers and the nw winds and highs will aim for the mid 20s to low 30s this afternoon. we have a little more snow and a lot more cold in the forecast... i'll have that for you in a few minutes. this morning, we begin with a winter wonderland of sorts. the snow piled up all over eastern iowa -- and this morning, many of you will be getting your first look at how much added up outside. keep in mind -- streets could still be slick. the city of dubuque had crews out taking care of primary and secondary streets. dubuque has a lot of hills... which makes things even trickier for drivers. "i couldn't make it to the top...i was spinning and trying to make going up."

the dubuque area yesterday. the dubuque county sheriff's office says a 14- year-old was pinned under a car after a crash. it happened yesterday morning on highway 61. the car went into a ditch a rolled. the teenager was taken to the hospital with injuries to his legs. the boy's father was ticketed for failing to maintain control. the roads were slick at the time. the roads were dangerous in other parts of iowa. take a look at this s-u-v on its side near davenport. at this point, we don't know if anyone was hurt in that crash. we do know drivers there had to deal with snow, freezing rain, ice -- and the wind. iowa was not alone with the winter mess. far from it. there were serious crashes -- because of the weather -- stretching from oklahoma to oregon. this gives you an idea of what

many highways were shut down... but this morning -- they are oklahoma. good luck getting a flight in this mess. that's what many passengers were told yesterday -- and they could face some of the same frustrations today. about three- thousand flights into -- out of -- or across the u-s were cancelled and almost five- thousand were delayed because of the large storm system. many of the flights canceled or delayed were at chicago's two main airports or in dallas. up as being available for purchase, point because it's not showing up as canceled. i didn't get anything saying it was canceled." this morning, we checked in on the eastern iowa airport. flights seemed to be running on time. across eastern iowa, some businesses or organizations are not running as scheduled today. we have a number of weather-related announcements running at the bottom of your screen right now. you can see the full list on our website -- kwwl- dot-com.

problem this morning. flooding is also a big concern in parts of the u-s. kim hutcherson has an update. the severe weather system that has already caused tremendous damage bringing blizzard conditions to the west and more flooding to the middle and plains states monday. in missouri, rain continued, sending already swollen rivers surging over their banks. "i am worried. i don't know what to do. oklahoma residents forced to cope with both flood and blizzard warnings. one man had to to walk to safety through freezing water. "i gather my things and i make the trek for about half a mile or so in water that's about waist-high." the cold temperatures and high water were a bad combination. "stood in that water for about three hours waiting for them to get here the list of weather-related

longer. two men have been pulled from water in georgia -- the widow of one clearly grieving. "i'm going to be so lost without him." the storm is expected to continue moving northeastward tuesday ... and is likely to leave yet more misery in its wake. i'm kim hutcherson reporting. with that in mind -- the mississippi river is expected to reach almost 50 feet by friday at chester, illinois. that would top the all-time high reached in august of 1993. the mayor of west alton, missouri -- which is about 20 miles north of st. louis -- is ordering hundreds of people to leave home because the flood levee is not high enough. the city of cleveland is urging people to be calm today -- after officers in the death of a 12-year- old. no charges will be filed in the shooting death of tamir rice.

outside a rec center last year as the boy apparently reached for a toy weapon. a grand jury spent two months listening to testimony and looking at the evidence. it said the officer's deadly mistake- while tragic- is not criminal under the law. this morning, victory is being celebrated in iraq. security forces have regained control of ramadi. political analysts say the victory over isis could have both strategic and spiritual significance. iraqi forces retook control of city after liberating its districts one by one. they raised the iraqi flag on the government complex," in a statement, but did not give details about whether there were any districts left in the hands of isis militants. tense moments for the president. his motorcade was stopped for a few moments yesterday after a drone was spotted flying nearby. the president is on vacation in hawaii right now. the secret service says the pilot was completely unaware the motorcade was in

drone on the ground -- after being confronted by law enforcement. decision 2016 coverage this morning: weather interfered with the presidential campaigning in iowa yesterday. we'll have to see how today goes. republican candidate marco rubio has a very busy schedule in the state today -- including stops in clinton, sioux city -- and a town hall at the waterloo center for the arts this afternoon. chris christie had to cancel an event in dubuque yesterday. today, he's scheduled to be in muscatine, iowa city and cedar rapids. donald trump is supposed to have a rally tonight in council bluffs. yesterday, the republican campaigned in new hampshire and had this to say: for president, it really does. you know, i'm not a politician, i never did this before, i'm self- funding by the way, all these guys are taking money. they're are all blood suckers. they're all taking money. they're all controlled." trump also said his campaign plans to spend quote a lot of

beginning next week. he said they'll spend it over the next month -- saying he doesn't the countdown to the caucus is on... but so is the countdown to the rose bowl. friday's the big day -- and hawkeye fans can smell the roses. iowa comes in as a touchdown underdog to stanford. but the hawks have a quarterback who knows quite a bit about winning. kwwl's mark woodley continues our coverage from pasadena. cj beathard's started 14 games at iowa - he's won 13 - a lot on our quarterback both in beathard should have a solid game in pasadena - as it seems to run in the family -- "there's definitely some family history there, my great uncle pete was the mvp of the rose bowl game" that happened in 1963 - pete beathard tossed 4 touchdowns in a 42, 37 win over the wisconsin badgers - it's a record that still stands having been tied twice - but never broken - it's a performance his great nephew hopes to match - even

area over the next couple of days, but we won't see as much as we did yesterday.... totals ranged mainly between 3 and 10 inches with the lower amounts mixed with sleet and ice. roads are still partially to completely covered with snow and ice, but are showing some improvement this morning. iowa dot track-a-plow cameras are in use this morning, too, and show varying road conditions, although most with at least some snow or ice on them.

few snow showers tracking through and will see this much of the day. stormtrack7 live weather network cameras will show some improvement over yesterday but may still show some light snow tracking through. temperatures this morning are holding in the 20s with upper teens to low 20s off to the west. winds are much lighter... they are mainly 5 to 15 mph and should stay manageable through the day and die down

tonight. the strong low is dying out as it tracks through the great lakes, but we will keep a lobe of it tracking through today providing a few snow showers. a weak disturbance will track in from the southwest tomorrow and squeeze out a few more snow showers.... accumulations should stay less than an inch between the two. today we will have mostly cloudy skies with those stray snow showers. highs will be in the mid 20s to low 30s with northwest winds around 5 to 15 teens with lows in the single

hovering over -- what had been a trendy pick for christmas. a new jersey family is cleaning up after a hoverboard burst into flames in their home. family members say they saw it "i started to see some sparks and i yelled and he was running in the room, and we just heard a loud bang." the fire burned the kitchen floor -- and left the living room covered in residue. federal regulators issued a warning about hoverboards earlier this month. the government is investigating 22 reported fires. apple says one of the top downloads on christmas day -- was the fitbit surge. downloads don't give a clear

of fitbit's sales, but the surge suggests many people are setting up new devices. the company says it seems fitbit continues to be popular as people look to improve their fitness... which would make sense with the corner. attention shoppers: target is buying unwanted gift cards. the company is teaming up with gift card exchange website cardpool and an electronic trade-in company. cardpool provides the trade- in rate for gift cards and then re- sells them. here's one example: a 1- hundred dollar walmart gift card could be traded in for an 85 dollar target gift card. target will exchange gift cards from more than 600 brands. new 9-1-1 calls paint a dramatic picture for boy scouts. their scout master in new jersey was being attacked by a bear. brian thompson tells us "my scout master went into a cave, and a bear is in the cave with him."

because of where the bear is or is he too injured to get out?" "i think the bear is on top of him." alone deep in the woods, scout master chris petronino tells his boys to lure the bear out. "my scout master just suggested that we get food to put the bear away. he's still ok." "if the bear comes out, get ready to run." "mr. petronino, are you still ok?" then those scouts have an idea. "do you want us to make a signal fire? would that help?" "yeah, if you guys can start a fire." meanwhile, after getting out from under the bear, petronino calls 9- 1-1. "911, where's the emergency?" "split rock reservoir. blue trail. i was mauled by a bear." "where are you bleeding? your leg? your arm?" "left arm, left leg, neck, and head. i'm getting cold pretty quick." they knew searchers were somewhere out here. "guys on three, everyone's gonna yell, 'hello, can you hear us?' 'can the kids that were walking. we

the kids that were walking." at the same time, petronino sees them... rescued. "over here." "do you see my guys out there or anybody?" "i see them. they're walking towards me." the scout master was taken to the hospital -- but should be ok. the time now is it could be a new tool for paramedics as they fight to save lives after serious crashes. that story next when today in iowa continues.

something like a car wreck. chris jose tells us first responders in texas are part of a trial ems personnel with plano fire and rescue-- geared up with new life saving tools before they hit the business we're in and do see people on their worse day." explaining how txa can help patients with severe trauma.

have a high suspicion had a traumatic brain injury. they've have an altered mentation. they won't be with it. they maybe semi conscious or unconscious." doctor gary white is trauma director at texas health presbyterian in plano where txa is already used to treat patients. "can it possibly save a life?" "oh yeah, we've had that here. we've already seen it here." according to white.. txa stops excessive bleeding. in cases of trauma, the drug stabilizes a clot. and it has little or no side effects. "this drug hopefully will allow us to get ahead of the game as far as bleeding in the brain." the drug is on board all of plano's ems trucks... in cases where it's needed most. a car wreck, a blow to the head, a fall. paramedics have used txa on 8
