after nonstop sleet and snow hit dubuque. they've been working around the clock -- even bringing out extra plow trucks. kwwl's shirley descorbeth took a ride-a-long with dubuque's public works department. shirley...tell us how are they dealing with the clean up? well...they say it was a challenging storm to clean up after...because of all the sleet. and right now -- the crew is putting in extra hours to make sure the snow is removed. it's a long day for steve lot." it's one of those days -- up. steve's going through downtown and clearing the roads of snow. "drop my side blade down...the trick is to push back as far as

side walk." with about six inches of snow fall in dubuque -- it takes lots of resources to get the job pounds." still -- drivers...are getting stuck...in the mess. "the frustration has clouded any sense of time i've had doing this." but the street team says they amped up the number of plow trucks out on the road to help with snow removal -- from 15 to 21. "and this big pile of snow here is one of the locations where the city dumps its snow, but i'm told it's not even that big yet." "a constant flow of trucks bringing in loads more. as for the crew -- they do this...day or night. "it doesn't make a difference...saturday, sunday,

the public works team is also responsible for seven miles of sidewalks. they'll be taking care of that...tomorrow. we've got you cov ered live in dubuque...shirley descorbeth... ...kwwl news. and to help with clean up efforts -- the city of dubuque's snow route parking policy is in effect. the aftermath today -- a lot of cars and trucks in ditches or on the side of the road. a lot of people had trouble controlling their cars in the severe weather near cedar rapids. some delivery programs even canceling its services to avoid the winter storm made driving extremely difficult for people across iowa. icy conditions caused many people to lose control of their vehicles and crash them in ditches or on the sides of roads. abandoned cars litter interstate 380 near cedar rapids... taking a toll on the wheels even had to cancel their services to keep their

ronnebaum/horizon meals on wheels volunteer coordinator) "a lot of our volunteers are super willing to get out there and brave anything, but we just wanna make sure everyone is safe." employees and volunteers at horizon meals on wheels in cedar rapids say it's rare to cancel their services... (sot. cg: kathy martin/volunteer) "you'd be surprised. we deliver in all sorts ronnebaum says she recieved phone calls from a few concerned clients... but because the service occasionally delivers frozen meals for emergency situations... most clients had food to get them food. i'm sure other people bring in their supplies from their families too." we've got you covered in cedar rapids... hillary maglin... kwwl news. major roads were cleared today and volunteers were back on the road by 11 this morning. a man is dead after being trapped in a grain bin.

keystone around two-forty this afternoon. the benton county sheriff says a 56-year-old man was vaccuming grain into a semi. that's when it's believed a wall of corn surrounding him collapsed. emergency crews worked for 30 minutes to try and free him. a bettendorf teen is injured after being thrown from a car. the rollover accident happened on highway 61 south of skyline road. jason sweat was driving when he lost control of the car and entered the ditch, causing the car to roll. while the car rolled, sweat's son, 14-year old caleb sweat ended up pinned under it. sweat was taken to finley hospital with leg injuries one person is dead, others are injured after a multi vehicle accident in linn county. it happened on highway 151 in fairfax. a car crossed the center line slamming into another car... a third vehicle swerved to miss the accident but ended up hitting the car driven by terri skalsky.

hospital, but according to the iowa state patrol...she has died. a university of iowa student has died in a charter bus crash in chicago. police say the burlington trailways bus crashed into a sign on an interstate. the woman -- nicole underwood -- from des moines -- was taken to the hospital -- where she died. she was 21 years old. the bus was traveling from omaha to chicago. the iowa department of agriculture is lifting the ban on all live bird exhibitions at the beginning of the year. the ban was put in place back in may after the outbreak of the avian influenza. it canceled all live bird exhibitions at the iowa state fair in hopes to minimize the spread. the department announced lifting the ban today saying iowa is now considered free of the avian influenza. thousands of iowa fans flying out of the cedar rapids airport today...on their way to cheer on the hawks. the largest charter flying out today carrying 470 fans from snowy iowa to sunny california.

bowl coverage in now. kristin rogers is in cedar rapids and mark woodley and brad iowa in san pedro california. kristin lets start with you, you and it's excitement there. it's certainly an exciting time, more than 3 thousand fans are flying out of this cedar rapids to head to california. with the last flight day leaving in just a couple of hours. fans were excited about getting on the road to pasedena and it was easy to see that excitment. iowa spirit was worn on cutom jackets, and even put on to fingernails. fans tell me they are excited to escape this iowa weather, but (cg: buzz anderson/ fan) "well very excited, i have been to the last 2 rose bowls and actually last time my mother went with me and she was 82 iowa is going to win." beer sampling was available to the

the rose bowl--iowa fans looking to see the sights out here in southern california. a popular destination--the uss iowa. this ship has seen action in world war two, the korean war and the cold war. it's earned a number of awards and battle stars over it's life. now it's a floating museum in the port of los angeles here. and with free admission to iowa residents, and this week to iowa students, it's a popular spot for hawkeye fans this week. (kathy lange, centerville) "it's fabulous. it's just amazing. i didn't even, had no clue. had no clue what this would be like. it's really cool." there expecting quite the influx of iowa fans to make it through the battleship this week. they expect even more thursday when they're holding a pep rally for the rose bowl. that's from 12 to five here at

we did mention this was media day for the rose bowl -- the first one ever for kirk ferentz as a head coach -- zach grant was there today -- talking to the man who's been standup in: "yea thanks a lot mark well kirk ferentz is in his 17th season as the head players told me there's an extra incentive to win a rose bowl for it for him especially after last year he caught a lot of heat and back to were iowa football should be." c.j. beathard quarterback: "i think in order to send the season off on a good note we would be a huge win hes been here a long time and i know especially for coach feretnz it would be a huge win hes been here a long time and i know what that means to him and what it would mean to win a rose goal for an iowa football player is to be a better person than they were when they show up

to see just how dangerous- take a look at this is video caught by a winneshiek county deputy... first you can see a car swerving... it starts to go in then wait a little longer... and you see another car lose control...but this car isn't as lucky.... it swerves... off to the left...does a competee 90 degree turn.... goes into the other lane... and slips right into the ditch.. and get thiis: the deputy was there because another car was already in the ditch as well. the sheriff's office wrote on their facebook page saying: let this be a reminder to slow down.... and we've been saying that all night and all day today.. but it's something that should be taken very seriously..we saw it many times last night...i even we've got you covered, lauren moss...kwwl news. thanks lauren- take it slow on side streets especially. coming up...football players day.

the hawkeyes get set to face stanford in the rose bowl -- mark woodley will of course be there -- but right now -- he's currently on the deck of the battleship iowa -- and it was a big day for the it certainly was -- this was media day for the rose bowl with every player on both rosters in attendance and hundreds of media members -- it can be called somewhat chaotic -- up the escalator - and in to the gauntlet - for an hour on attention amounted to something never seen before by anyone on this squad i mean this is unreal, i've never seen anything like it, but it's definitely different, but it's a real cool experience for all of off much of his facial hair hadn't lost so i kept it. once
