flooding. today, the mississippi river is expected to crest about 13 feet above flood stage in the st. louis area. that would be the second-worst on record -- only behind the flood of 1993. rescue crews are scrambling to get people to higher ground as rivers and streams rise... but for some... it's too late. this is video out of fenton, missouri -- near st. louis. what's left of a house crashes right into a bridge. many homes have been destroyed. let's give you a look from above now. many bridges and overpasses are now under water. at least 20 people in missouri and illinois have died -- most were in cars swept away by floodwaters. missouri's governor compared this devastation to the 93 going to be a little shorter, but the bottom line is you've and we're out there trying to not only help manage the situation

here's some good news. for now, there's no more rain in the forecast. also in that state -- two people were hurt -- but are expected to survive -- after a plane crashed near a high school. the couple was able to call 9-1-1 after the plane went down outside of springfield. firefighters cut off the roof to get them out safely. there there's no lighting and it looks like the fence actually caught the, and brought them, to an abrupt stop." authorities say they don't know where the couple was going... but again... they say both are expected to be ok. scary moments for people on a plane in chicago. a united flight skidded right past its gate. the runways were icy yesterday. no one was hurt. paramedics already have a tough job... but it becomes even more difficult when emergencies happen in dangerous conditions -- like

you can see in this video -- our camera is shaking. it can be a bumpy ride in an ambulance. paramedics say they try to get to an emergency in nine minutes "the ambulance itself is a giant box, it slides very easily, we have rear wheel drive on them so they, they're really hard to corner, especially in the slick conditions." he tells us paramedics working on patients in the back many times aren't wearing seatbelts, so when they hit ice, they can easily get thrown around --- which can be scary. right now, eastern iowa firefighters want to see red. they're calling on people to clear the snow away from fire hydrants. kwwl's olivia mancino rode along with a cedar falls rescue truck to get a look at the problem monday's storm left behind. a major snow fall can be stressful for everyone... especially for fire fighters. look for buried hydrants it didn't take long to find multiple hydrants packed in with snow. it took these two firefighters nearly 20 seconds to clear out this hydrant... thats precious time taken away from fighting an a matter of minutes, so if we have to spend a minute finding the hydrant clearing out around it it adds to the fire growth" theres a few important tips residents should know about dig out the fire hydrants when the snow is fresh rather than frozen..it makes the job easier for you and easier for them" and when digging out the hyrants -- pay special attention to the knobs on the side-- "we want to make sure these ports are open so our fire hoses can connect to them if they need them" its a small extra step when shoveling sidewalks and driveways... but can make a world of difference in time of emergency.

with say -- if you have trouble shoveling out the snow around a this morning, bill cosby is not in jail -- free on a one- million dollar bond. for the first time, he's been charged with sexual assault -- after dozens of women have accused him. he was charged in pennsylvania -- accused of assaulting a temple university employee 11 years ago. the district attorney says cosby urged the woman to take pills he gave her and to drink wine. in chicago -- more officers will carry stun guns. it's part of a major overhaul for the police department there. right now, about 20-percent have access to tasers. the move comes as the city faces heavy criticism for using deadly force. one chicago officer, jason van dyke, is charged with murder. "there is no area that is off from making changes and reforms tasers, like cameras, are technology. they are a tool in

the mayor said every patrol car will have a taser by june. now to a very powerful moment -- at the funeral of a dubuque county native. a boy salutes his dad during the service. technical sergeant joseph lemm was laid to rest in new york yesterday. his young son, ryan, sitting on the shoulders of an officer, saluted the casket as it was brought outside after the service. lemm was serving with the air national guard in afghanistan when he was killed by a suicide bomber. he was also a 15- year veteran of the new york police department. many family members from eastern iowa flew to new york for the services. decision 2016 coverage this morning. the war on terror continues to be a hot topic on the campaign trail in iowa. senator marco rubio was in a few different spots yesterday -- including pella.

sanders is the only major political candidate holding events today. he'll be hosting a new year's eve party at a des moines hotel. security is very tight on this new year's eve, but all festivities in one city are being called off. authorities in brussels arrested two people this week. they're suspected of being involved in a plot to attack sites in belgium today. belgium's prime minister says the decision to cancel the celebration in brussels was a "delicate" one. thousands of officers will be on hand tonight in new york as the place for the big show. it's the 11-th annual "new year's eve with carson daly" from times square in new york city tonight -- which you can watch right here after the kwwl news at 10. the golden state is becoming a sea of black and gold.

morning, but they are clearing out. however, they left about half an inch of fluffy snow in some areas and southward. as the snow tracks out, temps cooled into the teens in some areas and held steady in others (depending on cloud cover). stormtrack7 live weather network cameras will show a mix of clouds and mid 20s, but the low teens are working into our area, while northwest iowa has dropped to around zero in sheldon! wind chills are in the negative teens there, stay that way for a couple of days, including tonight, so bundle up if you are heading out to ring in the new year somewhere. clouds will clear out, but a few more will track in from a trough will keep a few clouds over us, but we will also stay cool. highs today will be about where they are right now with temps dropping likely be 5 to 10 below zero around midnight, so bundle up! we may gain a few below normal for the first day of the new year. we will see a slow warming trend... back to the low wednesday. the time now is cameras used to catch people dumping trash illegally -- find something else. a dog abandoned by its owner.

"i said, hey, the dog is still in the area." here's where eron dawkins comes in. the animal control investigator was asked to look through other photos in the camera---and days after mojave was left behind--- the motion activated camera---had snapped other pictures of mojave---still in the area--dawkins and ashurst rushed back out and didn't have to look long---especially after opening a can of food---before mojave came bounding out of brush. despite spending a week in the woods, the dog is healthy and now to a much different kind of lost and found. a woman is searching for the owner of a wedding ring after it was found in a pair of men's jeans she ordered for her husband as a christmas gift. the woman ordered this jeans from neiman marcus. her husband
