by your local toyota dealer." let's hhad back to pasadena -- where ron and mark are live on the fieldd no doubt this 45- 16 loss to stanford is going to sting for a while. the cardinal took control on their opening offensive play. and mmrk it caught the hawkeyes off guard when christian mccaffrey scored on that first play. it just took the wind out of the sails of what was a massive hawkeye crowd here in pasadena
10:22 pm
pasadena for the first time in 25 years - but it's safe to say for the hawkeyes - christian from behind very early - stanford's second drive provided another heavy dose of mccaffery - but it was kevin hogan - on the keeper from the 8 - would put the cardinal up 14, less than 6 minutes in - and the first quarter would get even worse after quenton meeks jumped a route - and took the beathard pass for the pick 6, stanford's 21 points the most for a team in the first quarter in rose bowl history - and the hawkeyes - just couldn't stop mccaffrey from putting up video game numbers - mccafffey returned punt 63 yards in the second for a score and had 248 all-purpose yards before halftime - while the hawkeyes couldn't muster anything - beathard went down 3 times in the first half - iowa embarassed 35,
10:23 pm
the second half finally brought something positive as a bad snap on a stanford punt would set the hawks up deep in stanford territory - the sidelines to matt vandeberg - 36 yards for the score - 38, 9 to the zone with a nice cut at the end - hawks still down 22 - and they got no closer - kevin hogan maks 'em pay one more time hitting michael rector on a big 42 yard touchdown play - hawkeye fans stuck around until the end - but this one would stinn tonight - iowa falls 45, 16 - they're a great team. they took advantage of all our things today. all the small mistakes we made. they capitalized on them. their momentum they had in the first half, we just never really got a chance to stop it. we settled down a bit in the 2nd half, but we`dug too deep a
10:24 pm
we went down 21-nothing early and it's hard to come back from when you get down that much, cj beathard finished strwng 21 of 33 for 239 yards and two touchdowns. but cj got sacked seven times by the relentless stanford rush. and this o o's certainly oing to sting for a while -- certainly putting a damper on a great season when with a lot of talent returning so as we say goodbye from the ross bowl - we wanttto say what a priviledge it has been to be
