upper 20s across eastern iowa. the wind has been out of the west throughout the day, but we do have a boundary that is going to move through the area, shifting the wind to the northwest. it's created wind chills much colder. so it feels much colder as you step out the door. storm track 7 in afghanistan are honoring son's life. today -- family and members of the community welcome back the parents of joseph lemm -- the soldier and new york police department detective from dubuque. kw-wl's shirley descorbeth talks with family members -- and joins

at this point -- the family is doing their best to cope with their loss. joseph lemm's mother says she has an empty feeling in her heart. nearly one hundred people came out to dubuque regional airport to show their solidarity for the parents of joseph lemm. the 45-year old was one of six u-s soldiers killed in december when a suicide bomber attacked their patrol in afghanistan. thousands honored lemm during a state funeral on wendesday in new jet...and to their surprise...a large group welcomed them. his mother... says...he never forgot his roots. "yes, he was a big man but he the little towns. and they used to call him the country boy when he moved to new york, and he wasn't...he wasn't angry at that, he was proud of it." also showing their respects were the

several holding u-s flags. as for joseph lemm -- this was his third tour of duty overseas with the air national gaurd. his mother added...he knew he had to do something after the story at ten. we've got you covered in dubuque...shirley descorbeth... ...kwwl news. wife christine -- his 17- year-old daughter and 4-year-old son. the marshall county sheriff's office says a man is dead -- following a snowmobile crash last night. of legrand around 6- 30. authorities say 25-year-old travis vandewalle was found by family. first responders believe he was riding alone when he flipped while trying to climb a snow drift. deputies say he was found dead when they arrived. the investigation is ongoing.

charges after taking a playstation from another person at gunpoint. this man was arrested thursday by davenport police. police say he agreed to meet with a person in november who was going to sell him a playstation four. the two met at an auto parts store in davenport -- where police say he took the system without paying for it. at last check -- he's being held on 25-thousand dollars bond. davenport police say what started as a new years eve party turns into a shooting. after ten o-clock yesterday morning -- police responded to the 17-hundred block of fillmore lane. police say an un- invited guest showed up to the party -- which led to a fight -- and then a shooting. police say a 24- year-old man was shot in the chest and was taken to iowa city. at this hour -- we have no word on his condition -- and no arrests have been made. but officers say the people attending the party knew the shooter -- so there is no threat to the story we brought you yesterday. des moines police say a 15-year-old is recovering today -- after allegedly

thursday. authorities confirm the shooter has been charged. even though the one teenager was shot in the chest -- they are expected to survive. authorities say three people are hurt -- and 50 homes are damaged -- following an explosion in oklahoma city. fire investigators say the scene looked like a tornado ripped through the area. an oklahoma natural gas crew was reportedly working on the home when a fire started near a gas meter -- which sparked the explosion,. fire officials say a man who was inside the home was thrown from his bed. he is being treated for minor burns. eight homes in the neighborhood were evacuated and two other people were taken to the hospital for breathing problems. people who live several miles away say they heard the explosion. israeli police are searching for the gunman who killed two people and wounded several others in tel aviv yesterday. israeli media are showing video that appears to have the shooter on the street before the attack. keer multiple developments

challenge in idaho on new year's day for a good cause. this is lucky peak lake -- but these brave souls probably weren't feeling so lucky as the temperature was just seven degrees. the event raised money for make-a- wish idaho -- to grant wishes to medical conditions. the event raised nearly 30-thousand dollars. the buffalo bills are asking fans to shovel snow today -- and hundreds delivered. a lake-effect snow storm dumped a foot of snow on the stadium this week -- and the team needed fans to clear out the stands ahead of sunday's game against the new york jets. fans were asked to bring their own shovels. they were paid 10-dollars per hour for the "opportunity" to help. but fans headed to the game tomorrow will want to bundle up as the forecast calls for the possibility of more snow. dating website match dot com declares the sunday after new year's day, "dating sunday." the site says it sees a 60 percent spike in new members between christmas and valentine's day -- and that the sunday after new year's day is the busiest day of the year. so -- they're saying dating day is close to a national holiday

hawkeye football team -- and not iowa hawkeye football team -- and not quite in the way most the stanford cardinal took it to iowa in the first half -- behind some amazing play from sophomore christian mccaffery -- who racked up a rose bowl record 368 yards in the game. the hawkeyes put together some positive plays in the second half -- just too little too late. it was a difficult end to one of the best seasons in iowa history -- their time in the black and gold. i've been so proud to be a hawkeye. our fans are amazing. you could just see that they travelled so far. there's just cheering. i probably gave up on myself at up. and to break through and have the season i did. it's not saturday's loss capped a season that saw iowa start 12 and oh for the first time in school history --

advancing to their first ever big ten title game. the university of iowa's head football coach remains on top of the list of the state's best-paid employees. information provided by the state indicates kirk ferentz made nearly four million dollars in the fiscal year. former iowa state head basketball coach fred hoiberg made more than two million bucks during the same period. in third place -- former iowa state football coach paul rhoads comes in at one million -- 8 hundred 50- thousand dollars. the best-paid person on the list is kenneth kates -- who isn't a coach. he's the c-e-o of the university of iowa hospitals and clinics. moving on to the cyclones -- the iowa state men's basketball team is in oklahoma taking on the sooners. the game kicked off at six o-clock -- and we'll have more details coming up tonight at ten. that's it for sports -- and we'll be right back.. on average, it takes three hundred americans working for a solid year, to make as much money as one top ceo.
