kwwl's shirley descorbeth has been working this story all day long. shirley...what's the latest? well, right now police are trying to piece together how a two-year-old boy became the victim of gunfire. it's a calm scene now...but last night at about 11:45 dubuque police responded to the nine hundred block of main street. they say a two year old boy was hurt in a shooting inside this apartment. according to the police report -- he has facial wounds. they say several people were inside...including other children. right now...they're trying to figure out what exactly happened. "some of the initial indications firearm. that's one strong possibility we're looking at, but we allso don't want to narrow ourselves down that much at this point." and that gun has since been recovered and siezed by police. as for the little boy -- he initially was taken to finley

hospital here in dubuque, but then air-lifted to university of iowa hospitals in iowa city...because his injuries are serious. we've got you covered live in dubuque...shirley descorbeth... ...kwwl news. police say they're conducting interviews to determine what happened. at this point -- no charges have been filed...and no one has been arrested investigators are trying to figure out if a deadly shooting in nashua was an accident...or intentional. it happened in the 100 block of saint lawrence street over the weekend. according to the iowa division of criminal investigation, a 56- year-old man was shot in the head. the suspected shooter is identified but no charges are filed. iowa's division of criminal investigations confirmed the autopsy will be preformed today. one person is behind bars and another in the hospital, after a shooting at a mc- donald's parking lot. witnesses say someone started shooting and hit a 19 year old man in the leg in des moines saturday night.

into a nearby alley... that's where they arrested a man after they say they found a hand gun inside his car. 21-year-old antwain robinson is charged with carrying a weapon felon. he's being held in the polk county jail on a 10- thousand bond. authorities say they're still looking for two other possible suspects. after hours of searching emergency crews find the body of the person they were looking for in the coralville resevoir. it is 17-year-old tanner wymer of solon high school. the search took place after a canoe carrying wymer and one other man flipped over yesterday. it happened near the neighborhood of twin view heights in solon. kwwl's kristin rogers has been following this story as it has developed throughout last night and again today, kristin what''s the latest? i'm told a vigil will be held for tanner in about an hour right here at the high school. this is certainly a tradgety affecting this tight knit community. the school tells me councelors

and clergy members have been available for students all day. this search comes after 17-year-old tanner wymer and michael felton, who is in his water to take a picture of a nearby home. that's when authorities believe wind, waves and a strong felton in the icy water. felton was able to swim to shore and was pulled to safety by some neighbors, he was taken to the hospital for treatment. wymer could not be found. authorities searched as late as they could before we are told the water began to ice over, making it unsafe. they returned this morning and after working their way through an inch of ice, they were able to get boats and even diving teams on the water. shortly after eleven wymer was found. the school principal tells us he was a student at solon high school. obviously a horrible tradgety, and a loss felt by many in this community. as i mentioned a vigil is expected to start within the hour, i'm told it's being organized by stuents here at the school. we've got you covered in solon, kristin rogers kwwl news. neither wymer or felton were wearing flotation devices when the canoe turned. the f-a-a was called in to investigate the crash of a small plane that claimed the life of the pilot. the plane disappeared sunday night after being diverted from landing at sioux gateway airport. the wreckage was found this morning outside pender nebraska. the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. an early morning fire breaks out and destroys a barn. springville firefighters and other neighboring agencies responded to an barn fire in springville on this morning. firefighters say no one was hurt and the owner was able to get all animals out of the barn safely.

the cause is unknown, but firefighters do not believe the fire is suspicious at this time. the autopsy results are still pending in the death of an eastern iowa teen. the state medical examiner results from the moe sed autopsy could take between six weeks to two months. moe sed's body was found in the cedar river near gilbertville in early december. an autopsy is ordered on the body of a man who died after a snowmobile accident in central iowa. authorities say the body of 25- year-old travis vandewalle was found friday in a field northeast of le grand. relatives had been looking for vandewalle because he hadn't returned home. the marshall county sheriff's office says vandewalle died after the snowmobile he was driving rolled over on him. decision 2016... while her husband made his campaign debut in new

hillary clinton was on the trail in iowa. clinton began her day strongly supporting president obama's consideration of executive actions to expand background checks on some gun purchases. clinton also argued that a republican presidential win in 2016 would probably mean the end of benefits under the affordable care act. on the republican side, presidential candidate ted cruz says he hopes protesters who've taken over a building on a federal national wildlife refuge in oregon will "stand down peaceably." cruz told reporters in boone that while everyone has a constitutional right to protest.. nobody has the right to threaten force on others. most candidates avoided commenting on the takeover including... ohio governor john kasich. kasich told reporters after an iowa town hall in west des moines that he was unaware of

answers tonight- after a 22 year old mother is found dead in her bed. police say she had no injuries- and they are calling it "medical"... kwwl's lauren moss has been speaking with the woman's family- she joins us now live with the latest. lauren they are just devastsated. family describe this 22 year old woman as a loving mother and a hard worker..someone who loved life and loved her family. they are hoping an autopsy will 22 year old lacey batton "she's a good mother, hard- worker... the unthinkable happened in this waterloo home. lacey was found dead in her bed- family says she went to sleep...and never woke up. at this time, police say she died because of medical reasons. her family hopes and autopsey will give them some answers. you know with no health problems and being 22 and having a great life and not having no

it's scary. her family tells me lacey was a hard-worker she was a cna at western home communities and she loved her job "for a living she took care of other people.. she loved her job and her residents." her life revolves around her sons- sadly, she gave birth to a still born baby a year ago. ...and then in 2016 they lost their mother. family says her long- time boyfriend is having a hard time understanding things. he was there when it all happened..he's going through a lot right now he don't know really what to say. he just wants to be left alone. at age 22 you are looking to spend your life with somebody not other things..like planning a funeral. all for a life gone too soon.. she's going to be missed very much."
