kwwl's brad hanson learning more about that process today--brad joins us live now from the t-h media newsroom in dubuque with more. i spoke with a local gun shop owner who says his business has also been picked up recently. but he also said there can be quite a bit of confusion among first time buyers about what the process actually is. there's no doubt things have been a bit busy at the gun (ken freiburger, the gun depot owner) "the sales have been real heavy, and a lot of need for a gun in their house." but freiburger says there can be quite a bit confusion around what the current laws: to buy a handgun, you have to be 21, and you have to get either a conceal and carry permit or permit to acquire--both of those done through your local sheriff's office. then you have to show the seller a valid driver's license with a

you have to be 18-years old, have a valid driver's license with picture, and be able to (brad hanson, @bhansonkwwl) "a law change back in 2011 meant the dubuque county conceal/carry applications then. now, 5 years later, a lot of them being renewed--more than 500 applications since the beginning of december. they've reason, whether the law or recent tragedies, they say the process is extremely thorough." 500 applications siice the beginning of december. they've also seen more than 100 purchase recent tragedies, they say the freiburger says works. dubuque police say the boy is two- year-old jeremiah horsley. at last check -- he is in stable condition at the university of iowa hospitals and clinics. he was shot in the 900 block of main street on sunday nht. no arrests have been made at this time in the ongoiig investigation. a 28-year-old man convicted of murder is sentenced to 55 years in prison. roderick ward jr., of waterloo, convicted of second degree murder in the 2014 death of 27-year-old gary wilson. authorities say the two were friends -- and ward was drunk when he shot wilson in the shotgun. a man is killed after accidentally shooting himself while trying to euthanize a bull. auththrities responding to a farm in the 13- hundred block of 155th avenue -- just east of dundee. they say randall kelchen was climbing the gate out of the barnyard --when the shotgun went off --

the incident remains under investigation by the delaware county sheriff's office. authorities arrest a man after they say y e fired a rifle at a group of people in a drive-by shooting. it happened in the 600 block of a person in the group shot back -- striking the driver's pickup truck several times. one bullet shot from the driver did hit a home in the area, but nobody was injured in the the pickup, 23-year-old tony brunker. no others suspects are wanted at this s ime. one local community is reflecting on the loss of a teen -- recently found dead. 17-year-old tanner wymer was in a canoe with his girlfriend's dad, 51-ear-old michael felton, when the canoe capsized it happened in the coralville resevoir, near the neighborhood of twin view heights on sunday. kwwl's kristin rogers speaking with those close to tanner. she has the story tonight.
