attack on satirical newspaper charlie hebdo... we'll keep you updated with the latest on the situation on air and online at kwwl dot com... here in the u-s... emergency crews worked through the night to free 17 miners trapped in a salt mine... this all happening in upstate new york... all 17 workers were hoisted to safety this morning in a rescue effort that took nearly eleven hours... the workers were in an elevator that was stuck 800 to 900 feet down a shaft... a crane was brought to the scene and lowered a basket that was able to bring around four miners out at a time. closer to home -- a second arrest has been made in the robbery of a credit union... the robbery happened in dubuque in november -- at the du-trac community credit union... you're seeing video of the scene... in december -- one suspect, shawn cade of rock island, illinois was arrested in connection with the crime... last night... rock island police arrested another man for his alleged participation... william w. franklin is being held in rock county jail on a

after repeatedly trying to lift the safe, the five take off, leaving the safe and a mess behind... the stolen truck was later abandoned -- while the five suspects remian on the run. more intense video to show you here... as thick black smoke was rising from an oil facility in libya, as firefighters struggled to put the flames out... it's believed isis attacked the oil fields. firefighters are trying to control fires like this at four oil storage tanks in the area as a result of the attacks -- each thought to contain more than 400- thousand barrels of oil. and more destruction in libya today -- as dozens of people were killed when a bomb exploded in a truck near a police training center... medical sources say 65 people were killed in the explosion... no group immediately claimed the attack -- but the bombing was one of the deadliest since 20- 11. back in the u-s... a semi driver survives after his truck goes over a bridge and into the water. the virginia beach marine patrol

of california under water... several roadways are closed in san diego as heavy rain led to massive flooding. some people were trapped in their cars by high water that was nearly up to the windows. lifeguards even helped rescue some people from vehicles in the rising water.. and here you can actually see firefighters rescuing a woman trapped inside her car in california. authorities say the truck the woman was in was swept away after her boyfriend drove into standing water. it rolled over and became wedged against a telephone pole. the man was able to get out, but the "her head was above water. water, uh, still inside the vehicle. and part of the vehicle was sitting on her ankle." the woman was in the water for about 90 minutes. she was taken to a hospital for evaluation and was found to be today the national oceanic and atmospheric administration will release its annual report on extreme weather events. the agency will announce a

bowl officially spoke out against the stanford band's farm and cow- themed show... here's their giant cow from the performance that brought boo's from the iowa fans at the game. stanford's band is famous for putting on controversial shows and has even been banned from performing at the football team's away games... today's statement says, in part "the halftime performance was not in line with values of the rose bowl game" and the game would review future performances... e-s-p-n cut away from the performance during halftime last friday. addition to illinois' brookfield zoo... an 11-year-old gray seal gave birth to lily this week.. the pup weighs just over 30 pounds right now -- but staff estimates that she will triple or quadruple her weight in the next month... gray seals only nurse for about three weeks and then the pup will be introduced to a fish diet... light rain will track through this afternoon through friday. light snow friday night and saturday with a couple of inches of snow possible. mild temperatures today and tomorrow will become cold. temps start to fall friday night and keep falling through monday morning. it will stay cold through much of next week. that will do it for us here at noon. our next newscast is tonight at five.
