before speaking at the national czech and slovak museum in cedar rapids -- president clinton stopped by new-bo city market for a quick bite -- and answered questions. a few people -- quickly turned into a crowd as bill clinton walked inside -- talking to business owners, workers, and customers. president clinton discussed everything from nutrition -- to gun control. we caught up with a hillary clinton supporter who says she was overwhelmed by meeting the president for the first time. hundreds of people lined up to hear the 42nd president speak today -- and the place is packed... clinton was expected to arrive at five -- and should be there momentarily -- more from this event coming up on kwwl's new at six. also in iowa -- senator ted cruz... he took some time at his event in humboldt to impersonate our 35th president you know jfk said, 'some men see things as they are and ask why. i see things that never were and ask why not'." cruz told the crowd jfk would be kicked out of today's democratic party because of his beliefs... cruz remains in eastern iowa for the rest of the week -- at campaign events for his "cruzin' to caucus tour" for the democrats -- senator bernie sanders is in iowa today, though his schedule is more relaxed ahead of his events tomorrow. ron steele will be sitting down with sanders tonight for a one-on-one interview about his campaign.

interview coming up tonight on the news at ten. vice president joe biden is now saying he's actually regretting that he isn't running for president -- take a listen. "sure, i regret it every day but it was the right decision for my we've got two good candidates." you may've caught biden's blunder - saying there are just two candidates... when, in fact, there are three -- clinton, sanders and martin o'malley - though o'malley is trailing in the polls. republicans say they're holding an "enrollement ceremony" to get rid of obamacare. after dozens of attempts to repeal, the bill now moves to the presidents desk. but then it's going nowhere... just because the bill's finally made it past the senate, after passing in the house several times, it goes to the president - who will absolutely not sign it. at this point lawmakers don't have enough votes to overwrite - but

police are investigating a suspicious death... dubuque police say they went into a home in the 29 hundred block of jackson street on monday after a distrubance report... inside, they found 72- year-old gary breckenridge's body. no one else was inside the home at the time. breckenridge's body was sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy... but at this point police believe the man's death is suspcious. if you have any information regarding the incident - call police. in continuing coverage... police arrest another in a black friday credit union robbery. the robbery happened in dubuque at the du- trac community credit union... last month - police arrested shawn cade from rock island illinois in connection to the robbery last night - rock island police arrested another man - william w. franklin. he's now in custody at the rock county jail... police say he was the salvation army in iowa city is opening a new winter day shelter on monday. the shelter will be open from 9 in the morning until 11:30.

for those in need of a meal we spoke with a homeless man who told us he eats from dumpsters on sundays when his usual options for food are not available, it''s something he finds himself doing during the morning hours on weekdays as well. (cg: ron tuggle/ that in the mornings as well during the week?" "yeah because there's no breakfast, but now that they may start serving breakfast." he tells us the new day shelter at the salvation army will help him out. the salvation army is in need of volunteers to help serve breakfast. the winter day shelter will be open through mid march. in waterloo.... a homeless shelter is asking the public for help -- so they don't have to turn anyone away during the up coming cold. the catholic worker house says now they have a shelter for men and a shelter for women and children... but they aren't sure if this space will be enough in the near future.

45 thousand to build more space -- so far they've raised about half of what they need. 17 salt miners in new york state are back above ground and safe tonight. they spent nearly ten hours stuck in an elevator, hundreds of feet underground. chris pollone reports on how rescue workers got the trapped miners out safely. slowly, but surely they emerged. two and three at a time. salt mine south of syracuse, new york. their elevator shuddered to a stop about 800 feet below the surface. trapping them for nearly ten hours. :22) 10 38 13 "we weren't all happy until the last one got off the elevator." first responders jumped into action in the early-morning hours. finding and positioning a the miners had fresh air 09;08;30;07 "they huddled together, they did what they could do to keep each other warm and keep each other's spirits up."

bland died in a texas jail three days after she was arrested during a traffic stop -- the man who arrested her is now charged with perjury... accused of lying about the circumstances of bland's arrest. the grand jury decided last month not to indict jail workers on criminal charges. the united states is considering economic sanctions against north korea - after yesterday's news that they tested an atomic bomb. is eager to work with china to determine an appropriate international response to north korea's claim, saying they could face additional economic sanctions. white house secretary josh earnest says president obama is in talks with other world leaders. the new guidelines also include cutting back on salt and saturated fat... as well as getting more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into our diets. hoverboards are now banned in some spots on the university of iowa's campus. hoverboards became a popular novelty last year... but now they're posing a threat to riders and others nearby. there have been reports of the boards catching on fire... and on campus because of hoverboards.
